Chapter 47 Nature's Gifts
In the sixth month of the lunar calendar, the weather is unpredictable. When Lin Xi woke up, the sun was shining brightly, but when she was making breakfast, it started pouring rain.
Lin Xi leaned on the balcony looking down at her apartment. Zhang Xiulan had come early in the morning to harvest vegetables, but the sudden downpour caught everyone off guard, turning them into soup dumplings.
Zhang Xiulan simply stopped running and quickly picked the vegetables.
During this time, he glanced up at Lin Xi upstairs and saw her leisurely enjoying the rain. He muttered a few curses under his breath.
The sound of the rain was so loud that the cursing was drowned out.
Lin looked towards the distance, while the rain pattered down on the lotus pond, creating ripples that kept colliding.
Since Lin Cheng and Zhang Xiulan, along with their entire family, "discussed" the property ownership issue with Lin Xi, they haven't bothered Lin Xi again for the past five days.
He just comes to Lin Xi's house every day to pick vegetables.
Lin Xi planted these vegetables before she returned, and she didn't mind picking a few, since she was going to settle things soon anyway.
Zhang Xiulan hurriedly returned home after picking the vegetables.
Lin Xi cooked a bowl of egg noodles, moved the small table to the door, and slurped up the hot soup noodles while listening to the rain.
After about an hour, the rain gradually stopped, and the dark clouds dispersed sparsely.
A large group of people marched straight towards Lin Xi's house from the side path.
Lin Cheng and Zhang Xiulan, who were leading the group, were escorting a bespectacled man who was around fifty years old. He had his hands behind his back and walked with a certain air of authority.
The large group following behind were mostly middle-aged and elderly people, with women making up the majority, and some of them even had a handful of sunflower seeds.
Looks like something's about to happen.
Lin Xi opened the door and stood fearlessly at the entrance.
The bespectacled man walked to Lin Xi's door with his hands behind his back and said in a deep voice, "You are Lin Yi's daughter?"
Lin Xi: "Mm."
Zhang Xiulan, who had changed her clothes, crossed her arms, raised her chin, glanced at Lin Xi, and said to the man with glasses, "Village chief, this is our second son's daughter. You've never met her before, have you? She's been in Nanhua and hasn't come back many times. Suddenly she's back and taking over the house."
It turned out that the man was the village chief, and Lin Xi thought that his appearance did fit the image of a village chief.
The village chief adjusted his glasses and said, "I am Zhuang Changdong, the village secretary of Yunxiang No. 2 Village. Everyone calls me the village chief. Your uncle and aunt are suing you for encroaching on their house. What's going on?"
Lin Xi glanced at Lin Cheng and Zhang Xiulan. It turned out that the reason they had been quiet for a few days was because they had filed a false accusation and gotten a minor official to help them.
However, since he is a minor official, he must be reasonable.
Lin Xi replied, "Secretary, this house and the land belong to my parents, so according to the inheritance rights, it should belong to me."
Lin Cheng couldn't contain himself and shouted, "What inheritance rights? What inheritance rights do you, a girl, have? My second brother is dead, so this house should go to the Lin family. The Lin family only has our Xiao Jie as a boy now, and besides, Xiao Jie even had a grandson..."
Lin Xi's head was throbbing from his shouting, but Zhuang Changdong listened with great interest.
The women in the row behind, who were watching the commotion and eating melon seeds, started whispering among themselves, their eyes mocking Lin Xi.
Lin Xi cleared her throat and said calmly, "The property certificate and the land are both in my father's name. According to the inheritance law, I will inherit them now. If you disagree, then sue me."
She glanced at the field outside that Zhang Xiulan had occupied to grow vegetables, and said, "The land outside also belongs to my family. You should take your vegetables away immediately and not take over my land anymore."
After she finished speaking, the women's whispers turned into open pointing and whispering.
They then began to discuss it sourly in their dialect:
"Wow, no wonder he's a college graduate from Nanhua University, he speaks so eloquently."
"Pfft, city folks just love to talk about this law and that law."
"What's the use? Can a girl really take away a plot of land?"
"Lin Lao Er used to be an honest and simple man, how come his daughter is so shrewish?"
Lin Xi could understand the Yunxiang dialect, and besides, these people were more than happy for her to understand it.
Her father, Lin Yi, was indeed honest and upright, and she herself was also an honest person.
If she hadn't gone through several life-or-death experiences that tempered her character and given her a clear understanding of human nature, she wouldn't have been so insistent on arguing her case.
Besides, what she's fighting for is her property, the house she'll use to settle down when the end of the world comes.
Zhang Xiulan put her hands on her hips, glanced at the vegetable garden in front of Lin Xi's house, and listened to the gossip. Her nostrils flared up, and she was about to burst out laughing.
She roared, "What do you mean 'your land'! This house belongs to my Xiaojie, and so does the land. And that house in Nanhua, it will belong to the Lin family in the future!"
Lin Xi crossed her arms and looked at her fearlessly: "It's not like you can just say it's yours to take over. If you don't take the vegetables away, I'll just treat them as garbage."
Zhuang Changdong remained silent for a long time.
Zhang Xiulan shouted, "You dare! You can forget about living in this house! I'm not leaving today!"
Lin Cheng also rolled up his sleeves, and although he didn't say anything, he tried to intimidate Lin Xi with his actions.
Lin Cheng's family had a large and powerful presence, while Zhuang Changdong did nothing, and the villagers both took sides and fanned the flames.
Lin Xi looked very frail in the crowd and had no way to ask for help.
Just as the situation was about to get out of control, a car horn suddenly sounded.
Everyone looked curiously towards the source of the sound, only to see two vans parked on the path in front of Lin Xi's yard.
As soon as the car door opened, two vans carrying people got out.
No, two vans full of people.
They were all strong and muscular, wearing safety helmets and carrying weapons, which made people feel slightly intimidated just by looking at them.
Zhang Xiulan and Lin Cheng looked at each other, wondering what had happened.
Lin Xi stared at the last person to get out of the passenger seat. That person was also wearing a helmet and a sun protection suit, fully armed.
Lin Xi recognized Yu Shiyun from her petite figure.
Great! Yu Shiyun has arrived with the construction team.
This group arrived just in time.
She was just surrounded at home by her uncle and his men, but none of them were armed; they were just bullying the younger generation because of their numbers.
Besides, there's a large group of people who are just watching the show and enjoying the spectacle.
Seeing so many strong men arrive, none of them dared to make a sound, and they quietly observed how things would develop.
Yu Shiyun pulled down her mask and walked gracefully from the crowd to Lin Xi.
Lin Xi breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, "Engineer Yu, you've finally arrived."
Yu Shiyun nodded: "We've finally gathered all the manpower, and we can start work today."
We can start building the doomsday fortress today.
Yu Shiyun is always decisive. She pointed to the field in front of the courtyard where Zhang Xiulan had planted vegetables and said to the workers, "The container dormitory will be arranged here. When the materials arrive, you can go to the mainland at the entrance of the village to move them. The trucks can't drive into the small road."
A worker glanced at the lush green vegetables in the field, which had just been irrigated by the rain, and asked, "What should we do with these vegetables?"
Yu Shiyun asked Lin Xi, "Does this field belong to your family?"
Lin Xi nodded.
"Did you grow these vegetables?"
Lin Xi shook her head.
Yu Shiyun said, "You didn't plant it, but it grew in your field, so that's a gift from nature."
Lin Xi nodded.
Yu Shiyun: "Nature's gift, why not hurry up and grab it for lunch?"
