Chapter 35 Coming for Me

Chapter 35 Coming for Me

Gu Lanjuan only retaliated against Fu Minjun's family that night, looting their supplies before the family went back to sleep.

Lin Xi glanced at the surveillance footage outside the unit door. There were two human-shaped bloodstains on the ground, but she didn't see Fu Minjun and his wife.

Although the two people were covered in blood when they were thrown out, they were still alive. Now that there was no one on the ground, it was unclear whether they had run away or been dragged away by the zombies wandering outside.

Lin Xi didn't want to rewind the security camera footage at the main entrance to see what was going on; after all, the two people leaving the building were likely in grave danger.

Lin Xi and Fu Minjun's family had a very ordinary relationship. Fu Minjun's family moved in later, and Fu Minjun was a man of few words. Before Lin's father was alive, the two families were just nodding acquaintances, but after Lin's father passed away, they had no connection.

Lin Xi is from a different generation than them, and they may not run into each other when she comes back from working overtime. Even if they do, they will just pass each other by.

If we have to make any connection, it's that in her previous life, after Lin Xi's family was attacked, she was killed by the zombie that Fu Minjun had turned into.

If you really want to say who you're closest to in this building, it's actually the most unscrupulous one, Gu Lanjuan. She loves gossip, and even if you don't greet her, she'll still stick close to you and ask a couple of questions. She also likes to give you little gifts to curry favor.

But now, such a favor has turned into a disaster.

Just then, the door to Gu Lanjuan's house opened again. This time, three men came out: Yang Xin, Yang Hua, and Yang Xin's father-in-law. Each of them was carrying a weapon, sharpening their knives, ready to pounce on Li Rong's house...

Yang Hua knocked on the old-fashioned security door and growled, "Listen up, you people inside! Fu Minjun and that dead woman are gone. If you want to live, hand over all the food, and I won't hold it against you for locking my parents and son out."

It turns out that this family is not only disgusting, but also cunning and shrewd. Knowing that resources will eventually run out, they turned their evil intentions on others.

They robbed people right after they received their relief supplies.

Moreover, Gu Lanjuan's family is large, and the men are numerous and domineering, making it difficult to resist.

If Lin Xi hadn't changed her home's decor, she would be trembling inside the door right now.

But fear was useless; she had already witnessed Yang Xin's ruthless methods, and he would force his way in even if she didn't open the door.

Li Rong knew this too, so after a short knock, he opened the security door a small gap through the mesh, smiled ingratiatingly, and said in a low voice, "I was wrong a few days ago. It was Fu Minjun's family who instigated me. I didn't want to do it."

Yang Xin patted the kitchen knife lightly in his palm and squinted at Li Rong.

Li Rong felt even more guilty: "We've been neighbors for decades, Yang Xin. We've watched you grow up. Can you please have mercy on us? I promise I won't dare to mess with you again."

Yang Xin's patience seemed to have run out, and he hissed, "Enough nonsense! Hand over all the food and we might spare your life."

In this apocalyptic world, no one can get food supplies. The rescue team was wiped out after distributing supplies once. Nobody knows when the next relief will come. Giving away supplies is tantamount to waiting to die.

Li Rong certainly didn't want to do this, but she was helpless against Yang Xin's violence. Her eyes darted around, and she glanced upstairs before whispering:

"Why don't you go after the Lin family upstairs? They only have one daughter living alone, and I haven't seen her come down to collect supplies. They must have a lot of stockpiled goods at home, more than mine. Wouldn't it be easier for you to rob her than to rob me?"

Yang Xin followed Li Rong's gaze and glanced upwards. Lin Xi met his greedy and malicious eyes in the surveillance footage, and a thug-like expression appeared.

While cursing Li Rong for being irresponsible and diverting attention, she was also relieved: It's okay, I personally tested my bulletproof and security door with a sledgehammer, their tools can't break it.

Hearing this, Gu Lanjuan rushed out, looked at Lin Xi's door on the third floor, then at Li Rong, and said to her son Yang Xin, "Let's rob their house. The young lady from the Lin family upstairs works in Block B. She hasn't made any noise or come out to collect supplies these past few days. She's probably dead in Block B. After we've taken care of Li Rong's house, we'll break into the third-floor house."

Yang Xin agreed: "That makes sense."

Seeing the sledgehammer about to hit the door, Li Rong immediately put down her weapon and flattered the man, opening the door to offer him the relief package she had just received. She walked him to the door with a beaming smile, and just as she was about to close the door quickly, her ingratiating smile froze—

The door was blocked by Yang Xin's foot.

Gu Lanjuan sneered from the side: "If you hadn't done something wrong and closed the door, would we have been locked out for so many days? Would my grandson and I have suffered so much?"

Thinking of the suffering his elderly mother and son had endured these past few days, Yang Xin's eyes hardened, and he charged forward with his knife.

Li Rong maintained a fawning smile until her death, while her husband at home trembled and also met with misfortune.

Lin Xi scratched her head, surprised that two households in the building had disappeared within a day after she received the supplies.

There are currently 8 people in this building: Gu Lanjuan's family of 7 and Lin Xi's family of 1.

After quickly disposing of the body on the second floor, Yang Hua feigned concern and came out to say a few words: "So ruthless? We've been neighbors for decades, even if we don't care about that, murder is a crime!"

Yang Xin's wife also came out of the house and leaned against the stairs: "Dad, even at a time like this you're still thinking about breaking the law. We've already started fighting over supplies over there. If it weren't for Xin Xin and my dad protecting us, we would have been dead long ago."

She stretched and said, "With zombies lurking around, how can we possibly manage? Countless people have already died outside. Once we survive, who will be able to explain how these neighbors died during the reckoning? Who will hold us accountable?"

As she spoke, she scoffed, "Are you afraid of breaking the law?" After saying that, she glanced at the third floor, took out her phone, opened an app, and checked Lin Xi's surveillance camera. She said, "That family's surveillance camera is still on. I can detect it here."

Gu Lanjuan chimed in, "The girl upstairs developed a mental illness a while ago. She always felt that someone wanted to harm her. It was called... paranoia, I think. So she installed a security camera. There's been no news for a few days. I reckon she died in Block B."

Yang Xin's wife curled her lips into a smile: "With a woman's intuition, I feel she's still inside, and doing very well."

Upon hearing this, Lin Xi rolled her eyes, thinking to herself: You figured it out, shouldn't I praise you, my clever sister?

Yang Xin's wife then said, "Let's sweep the whole building now. It's too crowded for the seven of us to live together. I saw that the girl's door is so high-end, the interior decoration must be nice. Regardless of whether she's alive or not, we can move into her house for a while."

Lin Xi suddenly realized—bad guys always have many ways to survive.

She watched the surveillance footage as a group of people went upstairs, and knew they were coming for her.
