Chapter 560, Sleepy
Wang Man'er couldn't help much with Daohua's medicine preparation, as Daohua sent him back to rest early last morning.
When Wang Man'er woke up in the morning, she had just finished washing up when she saw her daughter running back from outside with a red face. She was immediately surprised: "Girl, what's wrong with you?"
Daohua ignored him and ran straight to the bed, lying down and pounding the quilt for a while. When the shame and anger in her heart subsided a little, she stood up and said, "Go and get me some water for washing. After breakfast, we will go back to Ningmen Mansion."
Wang Maner looked at Daohua's still blushing cheeks, nodded, and quickly turned around to get some hot water.
As soon as she left, Daohua got up and sat in front of the dressing table. Looking at her blushing face, she covered her face with her hands in annoyance again.
Fortunately, Wang Maner came back quickly, otherwise she would have to despise herself over and over again.
While washing, Daohua felt Wang Man'er glance at her from time to time, which made her feel a little uncomfortable, so she stopped her from serving her: "You go and pack your things."
It was not until breakfast time that the blush on Daohua's face had almost disappeared.
At the dinner table, Granny Gu and Gu Jian looked at the refreshed Xiao Yeyang, then looked at the drooping rice flowers, and glanced at each other with some amusement.
After finishing the meal, Xiao Yeyang said to Granny Gu and Gu Jian, "Grandma, Master Gu, I'm leaving today."
Daohua took over the conversation: "I also want to go home to see my two brothers off. I will come to see you in a few days."
Granny Gu remained silent.
Gu Jian nodded, stood up and went to the pharmacy. He quickly brought back a small red porcelain bottle and said, "Please keep this carefully."
Daohua looked over curiously: "What kind of medicine is this?"
Gu Jian said calmly: "It's a deadly poison once touched."
Upon hearing this, Daohua immediately retracted her outstretched hand.
Gu Jian looked at Xiao Yeyang and said, "Those drugs made by Daohua are too weak. This one is a bit more toxic and is most suitable for dealing with the Tatars."
Xiao Yeyang reached out and took the porcelain bottle, opened it and took a look, then said thank you: "Thank you, Master Gu."
Daohua was a little worried: "Master, what if one of our own gets hurt? Is there an antidote or something?"
Gu Jian snorted: "Hurt yourself? Is there anyone so stupid as to do that?"
Daohua said awkwardly, "I'm just saying what if."
After thinking for a while, Gu Jian stood up and went back to the pharmacy. He took out a small round box, which was about an inch long, and pushed it to Xiao Yeyang: "There are three antidotes in it. Use them sparingly. This antidote is difficult to make, and many of the herbs are hard to find."
Daohua immediately said, "Master, give me the recipe and I will collect it."
Gu Jian glanced at his apprentice and said, "I'll give it to you later."
Daohua smiled and ran to the pharmacy. She packed the ginseng tonic pills that she had prepared overnight into a box. In order to prevent her third brother, fourth brother and Xiao Yeyang from separating them, she divided the ginseng tonic pills into three portions.
At 8:00 am, Daohua and Xiao Yeyang boarded the boat back to Ningmen Mansion.
In the cabin, Xiao Yeyang held a thumb-sized ginseng tonic pill with a look of doubt on his face: "Can one pill of this thing really provide energy for a day or two?"
Having not slept last night, Daohua was feeling a little sleepy. She yawned and nodded, covering her mouth. "Definitely. This is my conservative estimate. If I don't move or run, I might be able to last longer. Of course, I'll definitely feel the osmium after taking this, but I won't feel dizzy or tired."
Xiao Yeyang nodded and carefully put the pill away. Seeing that Daohua was sleepy, he said, "Go get some sleep. I'll call you when we get to Ningmen Mansion."
Daohua shook her head and said, "No, I'll just talk to you. We can sleep after we get home." She patted her face and stood up. "Let's go to the deck. The wind will keep us from getting sleepy."
Xiao Yeyang disagreed: "Although it's spring now, the river breeze is still very cold. Don't let it catch you sick." He thought for a moment and said, "Let's go to the stern of the boat. It's sheltered from the wind."
Daohua nodded: "Okay."
When they reached the stern, Daohua asked Wang Maner to make a pot of tea to help her out.
Maybe she was too tired, even after drinking tea, Daohua could not open her eyelids.
Seeing that her head was nodding, Xiao Yeyang stood up and walked over, picked her up, and then walked towards the room in the cabin.
Daohua was startled and her sleepiness disappeared instantly: "Xiao Yeyang, what are you going to do?"
Xiao Yeyang walked over and said, "I'll carry you to sleep."
Daohua said quickly, "I told you, I won't sleep. You'll be gone for several months this time, and I still have to give you some instructions."
At this moment, Xiao Yeyang had walked to the door, kicked it open with his foot, and directly carried the person to the bed. When Daohua wanted to sit up, he reached out and held her between his arms.
Seeing that Daohua was motionless, Xiao Yeyang reached out and took the quilt to cover her: "Be good, go to sleep quickly, I will be right next to you."
Daohua tucked in the corner of the quilt, looked at Xiao Yeyang who was sitting on the edge of the bed looking at her, and pointed to a chair in the distance: "Xiao Yeyang, sit over there. I can't sleep if you look at me like this."
Hearing this, Xiao Yeyang lowered his head and smiled, touched Daohua's head, and said with a smile: "Okay, I'll sit over there, you go to sleep." After that, he got up and walked over and sat on the chair.
Daohua turned her head to look at Xiao Yeyang, and seeing that he was looking at her, she immediately turned her head back and closed her eyes. After a while, she opened her eyes and glanced at him again. Seeing that he was still looking at her, she closed her eyes again.
After several times, Daohua began to feel sleepy again and then fell asleep.
Seeing this, Xiao Yeyang smiled, walked over to tuck the quilt for her, then sat down at the table and took out the secret letter he received last night and began to read it carefully.
At the same time, Yan Wentao and Yan Wenkai, who received news from Jinlingwei early in the morning, appeared in the main courtyard together.
"What did you say? You're going to the Northern Frontier?"
Yan Zhigao looked at his youngest son and nephew in astonishment, and Madam Li beside him was also horrified.
After coming to her senses, Mrs. Li asked Pingtong to guard outside the door.
When the four of them were the only ones left in the room, Yan Zhigao asked, "What are you going to do in Northern Xinjiang?"
Seeing that his parents had misunderstood, Yan Wenkai quickly explained: "Either he's going to the battlefield, or he's secretly going to deliver something to the soldiers in the northern border. He'll be back after delivering it. Ye Yang will go too."
Yan Wentao then said, "This trip is not dangerous."
Yan Zhigao fell silent. After a while, he asked, "Can't you not go?" The northern border is unstable and there are too many accidents. Who can guarantee that there is no danger at all?
Yan Wentao spoke first: "Uncle, I know you're worried. Doing nothing is safe, but I'm afraid that's all I can do for the rest of my life. So, I want to fight for a future for our third branch."
Hearing this, Yan Zhigao glanced at Madam Li and sighed inwardly. The Zhou family's rejection had dealt a heavy blow to the child, and he had become visibly more reserved these days.
Yan Wenkai immediately said, "I want to fight for a better future, too." After thinking for a moment, he added, "To bring honor to the family."
Yan Zhigao glanced at his youngest son and looked at Madam Li: "What do you think?"
Madam Li was adept at handling matters within the inner chambers, but when it came to matters outside, especially regarding the future of her two children, she was a little undecided. She could only look at Yan Zhigao and say, "I'll listen to the master."
Yan Zhigao pondered for a moment and said, "Go ahead, but be careful on the road, especially Wen Kai. You've always been impulsive and reckless. This time, you must listen to the young prince and your third brother and don't act recklessly. If you can't do that, don't go."
Yan Wenkai quickly assured: "I will definitely follow your orders."
Yan Zhigao stood up and walked over to Yan Wentao, patting him on the shoulder: "Kid, you are still young, don't put too much pressure on yourself, I still have the family to support you."
Yan Wentao's eyes were a little moist, and he lowered his head and said, "Uncle, I understand."
Yan Zhigao was silent for a moment. "We have to tell your father about this. As for your mother, forget it. You guys can send the gifts secretly. The fewer people who know about this, the better."
Seeing that Yan Zhigao agreed, Yan Wentao and Yan Wenkai both breathed a sigh of relief. Then, Yan Wenkai said, "Dad and Mom, we are leaving today."
Mrs. Li's expression changed. "Why are you in such a hurry? You haven't prepared anything yet?"
Yan Wenkai smiled and said, "Mom, there's no need to prepare anything. It's such a long journey, and even if we prepared, we wouldn't be able to bring anything."
Madam Li was about to say something, but Yan Zhigao stopped her, "That's how it is when you're on business. You usually have to travel light. But you should still bring plenty of money. You can buy anything you need on the way."
After hearing this, Mrs. Li immediately went to the inner room and took out a few silver bills, giving Wen Kai and Wen Tao one thousand taels each.
Yan Wentao didn't want to accept it at first, but Mrs. Li stuffed it directly into his hand. He knew that even if he refused, his uncle and aunt would not agree, so he took the banknote without saying a word and silently kept this favor in his heart.
Yan Zhigao then told the two of them some things to be aware of: "When you're out and about, the general rule is to listen more, watch more, talk less, and meddle in other people's business."
"Okay, go back to your rooms and pack two changes of clothes for the trip."
After the two children left, Madam Li couldn't help but ask, "Why didn't Master stop them? There's a war going on in the northern border."
Yan Zhigao: "I'm also considering the children's future. Think about it yourself. Wen Kai is engaged to the Su family's daughter. If he becomes nothing in the future and has no sufficient value, will the Su family still respect him as a son-in-law?"
"And then there's Wentao. He's right. Our family will definitely split up in the future, and then he'll have to support the third branch. Now that there's an opportunity, I don't want him to give it up."
"It's always safer to follow the young prince, who knows him well, than to go out on his own."
Mrs. Li nodded: "Mother..."
Yan Zhigao: "Don't tell mother. Wentao and Wenkai are often away from home anyway. If the old lady asks, just say they are in the military camp to gain experience. Don't let her worry about it."
