Chapter 686: Being driven away
After Zhongqu City was recovered, Wu Jingyi took Wu Dingbai away. The father and son originally wanted to meet Xiao Yeyang, Yan Wentao and Yan Wenkai before leaving, but unfortunately, the three of them had gone out on business with their men.
The war in the northern border has been going on for quite some time. The imperial court is anxious, and so are they. Everyone wants to finish their mission and end the war as soon as possible so that they can return home soon.
In early June, Wu Jingyi came to Taohua Village with only Wu Dingbai, not even his personal guards.
The old man has a special identity, and he doesn't want Taohua An to attract the attention of people with ulterior motives because of him.
At the foot of Taohua Mountain, watching his father respectfully waiting for the village head to come up and report, Wu Dingbai asked curiously, "Dad, who are we here to see?"
Wu Jingyi snorted in annoyance, "Don't ask questions you shouldn't ask." Thinking of his silly son who always did stupid things, he couldn't help but remind him again, "Remember, keep today's events firmly in your heart and don't tell anyone.
Wu Dingbai quickly asked, "Can't you even tell Mother and Big Brother?"
Wu Jingyi: "Yes, you can't even tell them. If you dare to tell anyone, don't even think about me taking you with me in the future."
Wu Dingbai immediately assured with a smile: "Son will definitely not tell." As he spoke, his eyes rolled around. The person on the mountain must be a big shot who could make his father so serious.
Who could it be?
Daohua had just finished her busy work in the farm and was about to go back to the mountain when she saw it was almost noon. However, as soon as she came out, she saw Wu Jingyi and his son standing at the foot of the mountain and whispering to each other.
Wu Jingyi was thinking about what he would say to the old man when he met him later, while Wu Dingbai was wondering who the big shot was on the mountain. Daohua had walked in front of them, but neither of them noticed.
Daohua waited silently for a while, but seeing that the two were still immersed in their own thoughts, she had to take the initiative to speak: "Master Wu, since you have come here, why don't you just go up the mountain?"
The sudden sound startled both Wu Jingyi and his son.
Wu Dingbai turned around and blurted out, "I don't know how scary people are."
Looking at the rice flowers in a fresh light green dress smiling at them, Wu Dingbai was a little dazed and his voice softened involuntarily.
"It turned out to be Miss Yan!"
When Wu Jingyi saw that it was Daohua, his face lit up with joy. This girl had saved him before, and when they met again, he couldn't help but feel closer to her.
Daohua smiled and said, "Master Wu, did you just come back from the Northern Frontier?"
Wu Jingyi nodded: "Yes, I thought the old man must be thinking about the affairs of Northern Xinjiang, so I came to see him."
Daohua raised an eyebrow. Zhongzhou was below the capital, so Master Wu's visit was quite convenient. "Since you're here to see Master, follow me up."
As he said this, he took the lead and walked ahead to lead the way.
Wu Jingyi was about to catch up when he glanced at his son, who looked like a goose beside him. He slapped him on the head with a look of annoyance, "What are you standing there for? Hurry up and catch up."
Wu Dingbai finally came back to his senses and walked awkwardly behind Wu Jingyi.
"Squeak~"
Hearing the laughter, Wu Dingbai turned around and saw a maid carrying a bamboo basket covering her mouth and laughing.
Wu Dingbai felt a little embarrassed. It was normal for a mortal like him to be distracted when he suddenly saw a girl who seemed to have walked out of a painting.
Looking at the large, plump grapes in the basket, Wu Dingbai couldn't help but ask, "There are grapes so early?"
Wang Man'er smiled and said, "Other families don't have it, but we have early-ripening varieties." Seeing Wu Dingbai staring at the grapes, she smiled and took out a bunch and asked, "Would you like to try some?"
Wu Dingbai: "How can I be so embarrassed?" He quickly took the grapes and picked one and put it in his mouth. "Mm, so sweet! Even sweeter than the ones at the Four Seasons Fruit and Vegetable Shop."
Wang Maner raised her chin and said, "Of course. These grapes are the seeds that my daughter carefully cultivated. Naturally, they are much tastier than those grown outside."
Wu Dingbai was a little off-key, but he wasn't stupid. He immediately caught the loophole in Wang Manyer's statement and asked, "Do you know the Four Seasons Fruit and Vegetable Shop in Beijing?"
Wang Man'er immediately realized she had said something she shouldn't have, and quickly said, "I don't know, but it's just a shop. Our grapes are better than anything in any other shop."
Wu Dingbai looked at Wang Man'er suspiciously. The maid's expression just now clearly showed that she knew about the Four Seasons Fruit and Vegetable Shop. Just as he was about to ask more questions, Wang Man'er quickly walked away from him with the basket.
"Why are you walking so fast?"
Wu Dingbai was eating grapes while chasing people.
Soon, the group reached the top of the mountain.
Daohua led the two into the main room, where Gu Jian was already sitting.
Wu Jingyi quickly stepped forward and saluted: "How are you, old man?"
Gu Jian nodded calmly, without any greetings, and asked directly: "What do you want to see me for?"
Wu Jingyi, who was used to exchanging a few pleasantries when meeting someone, was a little uncomfortable at first when he saw Gu Jian being so direct. However, he quickly recounted Xiao Yeyang's situation in the northern border, emphasizing the important role of anti-inflammatory drugs in the army.
Gu Jian knew who Wu Jingyi was and immediately understood his intention. He said directly, "Not everyone can make that medicine."
Such familiar words, exactly the same as what Dr. Ge said.
Wu Jingyi bravely asked for a prescription: "If you need a prescription, there are many doctors in the Imperial Hospital who can help."
Gu Jian interrupted Wu Jingyi directly: "Okay, don't worry about this matter, I will talk to Xiaowu."
Wu Jingyi paused for a moment, then continued with a smile, "That's the best."
Gu Jian: "Anything else?"
Well.
Wu Jingyi felt a little embarrassed by being so obviously driven away. He glanced at the sun outside the house. It seemed to be noon now. He could even smell the fragrance of food coming from the kitchen. Didn’t the old man even ask them to stay for dinner?
Wu Jingyi smiled awkwardly and said, "It's okay."
Gu Jian nodded and said, "Well, then I won't see you off. It's already dinner time, and we need to eat. You guys can go down the mountain on your own."
Ugh, that hurts!
The old man's skill in chasing people away is much better than Xiao Yeyang's!
Wu Dingbai followed his father out of Taohua An in a daze. Looking at the tightly closed gate, he was somewhat incredulous. They had been in and out of the courtyard for less than a quarter of an hour, and he had not even had time to say a word.
"Are we just leaving like this?"
Wu Jingyi sighed and said "hmm".
Wu Dingbai looked around the courtyard, then at the scorching sun in the sky: "It's already noon, and we are guests!"
It is unheard of for a host to not invite guests to dinner.
"Let's go!"
Wu Jingyi didn't bother to pay attention to his silly son and walked quickly down the mountain.
"This is too stingy!"
"After all, we have come from far away!"
Wu Dingbai followed Wu Jingyi silently, complaining all the time.
When Wu Dingbai heard the sound from Wu Jingyi's stomach, his face looked much better. At least he got a bunch of grapes to eat this time, but his father got nothing.
Peach Blossom Temple.
Daohua and Gu Jian have already had lunch.
At the dinner table, Daohua asked Gu Jian, "Master, why didn't you invite Master Wu to dinner?"
Gu Jian snorted, "He's not a good guy. Doesn't he know how important prescriptions are to doctors? He has the nerve to ask for them."
Daohua: "Isn't this for the soldiers of the Northern Frontier?"
Gu Jian scoffed. "Yes, his intentions may be good, but he has his own ulterior motives. If I agree to give him the prescription you prepared, and he takes it to the capital and gives it to Xiaowu, he will have a share of the credit. Otherwise, why do you think he would come all the way to Zhongzhou just to see an old man like me?"
"Is the prescription so easy to prepare? Even if he really has the credit, it's not his turn to claim it!"
