Chapter 96, Quota
Daohua followed Yan Zhigao and Madam Li and welcomed Li Xingnian into the house. The group talked as they walked towards the old lady's yard.
"Little sister, why did you think of growing watermelons? And you grow them so well." Li Xingnian asked Mrs. Li.
He is a businessman and has traveled a lot over the years, but he knows clearly that watermelon is not easy to grow.
Just after entering Xingzhou City, he passed by the Yan family's shop and took a special look at the watermelons sold in the shop. Wow, they looked even better than the ones he had seen in the capital.
Madam Li laughed and said, "It's that naughty girl Daohua. Last year, she planted two acres of watermelons in her hometown and harvested some seeds. It just so happened that there was some vacant land on the farm we bought, so we started planting it now."
Li Xingnian looked at the rice flowers that followed him closely, their expressions and behavior very close to him, and his eyes were full of smiles: "You are so brave, aren't you afraid of not being able to grow it well?"
Madam Li glanced at Yan Zhigao and said with a smile, "I was worried about this issue at the time, so I didn't tell anyone at home. Master, please don't be angry."
Yan Zhigao waved his hand: "I don't care if you take care of the family affairs. You don't have to tell me everything."
Li Xingnian took over and said, "Luckily, I got lucky and planted these watermelons. Otherwise, I wouldn't have such a good harvest now."
Mrs. Li smiled and nodded. "Who says it's not true? However, the good watermelon harvest is also thanks to the support of the old lady and the hard work of the third brother."
Hearing this, Yan Zhigao smiled a little more.
Daohua followed the adults, listening to their conversation without interrupting. Seeing that Mrs. Li's brows relaxed and her expression became happy when she saw her brother, she felt happy too.
Although my mother has been keeping in touch with her parents' home through correspondence over the years, the number of times they have met is very few. No wonder she is so happy.
Soon, the group arrived at the old lady's yard.
Li Xingnian paid his respects to Old Lady Yan, and exchanged greetings with Yan Zhiyuan and Yan Zhiqiang before sitting down to talk and chat.
"Second uncle, eat grapes."
Daohua smiled and placed a plate of chilled grapes in front of Li Xingnian's coffee table.
Looking at the big, round, agate-like dark purple grapes, Li Xingnian smiled and said, "These grapes are rare. I must taste them." As he said that, he took one and put it in his mouth.
"Mmm, so sweet!"
Old Madam Yan said with a smile, "I think so too. I find it more delicious than watermelon."
Li Xingnian ate another one, then pushed the plate towards Daohua: "You little girls like to eat this, so I'll just try a few." This thing is not cheap and rare in the market. I guess my sister's family doesn't have much either.
Daohua was stunned for a moment, then her eyes curved and she smiled as she pushed the plate back. "Second uncle, just enjoy your meal. I grew these grapes myself."
Li Xingnian looked surprised: "You can also grow grapes?"
Rice Flower raised his head and said proudly, "I can grow a lot of things."
Li Xingnian laughed: "You are not ashamed, girl."
Daohua glared, "What's there to be ashamed of? I'm telling the truth." Then, she pushed the plate aside and said, "Second uncle, please eat. I didn't grow many grapes this time, but there's definitely enough for you to eat till you're full."
This time, Li Xingnian did not refuse.
His family had eaten grapes before, but they were rare and expensive. Plus, there were several children in the family, so he would only try one or two each time. He had never really let his appetite run wild.
"Then Second Uncle will enjoy the blessing of our rice flowers."
Yan Zhiyuan watched the interaction between the two and said with a smile, "Look at Daohua, how close she is to her second uncle."
Upon hearing this, Madam Li glanced at Yan Zhiyuan and said with a smile, "Perhaps this girl has never met her two uncles before, and now she is curious about them."
Seeing that Li Xingnian really liked eating grapes, Daohua said, "Second uncle, when you go back, I will bring you some more and let your eldest uncle, eldest aunt, second aunt, and cousins try them."
Li Xingnian: "That's great! Your cousins are all looking forward to you visiting the city. It was such an unfortunate coincidence that you went there last time."
Daohua smiled and said, "It's okay, I'll go next time."
At this time, Yan Zhiyuan spoke again: "Daohua, you better take it easy. Didn't you say you wanted to make wine with grapes? Don't let there be no grapes left."
Li Xingnian ignored the other meanings in Yan Zhiyuan's words and looked at Daohua, surprised and asked, "You can also make wine?"
Daohua was embarrassed to say that she could do it, so she smiled and said, "You can learn even if you don't know."
Yan Zhiyuan: "Brother Xingnian, listen to me. Grapes are so precious, you can't let Daohua waste them. She listens to you, so go and persuade her."
Li Xingnian glanced at Daohua, who was already pouting, and smiled at Yan Zhigao and Old Lady Yan: "With my brother-in-law and Old Lady here, how can I have any say?"
"But, I do know a little about this wine. If it can really be produced, it will definitely make huge profits. If nothing else, the rich and powerful will definitely flock to it."
Daohua nodded: "That's right, our family doesn't have anything outstanding. When Xiao Yeyang comes again in the future, I will treat him with wine, so it won't be too shabby." Wine was relatively rare in ancient times and was considered a rare thing.
As soon as these words were spoken, Old Lady Yan and the others looked over. They didn't expect that Daohua would think of this.
Li Xingnian's expression changed slightly, and he asked with a smile, "Will that distinguished person come again?"
Daohua hesitated for a moment and said, "He promised me that he would come."
Li Xingnian nodded: "Then you should prepare some good things to entertain them."
Daohua agreed: "That's right, wine is fruit wine, not that intoxicating, just right for entertaining Xiao Yeyang."
As soon as the voice fell, Ping Tong, who was beside Madam Li, came in hurriedly: "Master, Madam, the young prince sent someone over to say that he is here to give a thank-you gift to the old lady and the eldest daughter."
Yan Zhigao stood up suddenly, but then felt that his reaction was too great, so he sat back down. The others were not much better than him and were all a little excited.
Daohua was surprised: "Xiao Yeyang gave me and my grandmother a thank-you gift?"
Madam Li immediately asked, "Where are the people?"
Ping Tong: "I'm waiting outside."
Yan Zhigao: "Please come in."
Soon, a middle-aged man who looked like a manager walked in with a brocade box.
The steward first paid his respects to Old Lady Yan and Yan Zhigao, and then said, "The young prince said that he likes the vegetables and fruits sent by the old lady very much. This is the thank-you gift prepared by the young prince." As he said that, he handed the gift list to Madam Li.
Mrs. Li took it and gave it to Old Lady Yan.
At this time, the steward looked at Daohua again and handed out the brocade box in his hand: "This is what the young prince asked you to do."
"What is it?" Daohua took the brocade box curiously and opened it on the spot without hiding anything.
There were three envelopes in the box.
When Yan Zhigao saw the envelope, a look of ecstasy flashed in his eyes.
Daohua opened one of the envelopes and found out it was an admission notice from Wangyue Academy. She immediately smiled brightly and ran to the old lady with the envelope in hand: "Grandma, Xiao Yeyang has secured admission places for my eldest, third, and fourth brothers at Wangyue Academy."
