Chapter 16 (Part 2)

Chapter 16 (Part 2)

Cheng Zhao took several employees who had participated in the bidding out for a meal. They discussed the project, particularly the progress control. Cheng Zhao had only given a general overview, but during their meal, Yu Huan had already laid out all the details of the project's progress, pinpointing areas where further time savings could be made, giving everyone a clearer picture. After checking out and returning, while everyone else was walking behind, Cheng Zhao patted Yu Huan on the shoulder and exclaimed, "What a talent! I hired you from XX Company and even paid your compensation. It was worth it!" Yu Huan smiled naively. It was already two o'clock when Cheng Zhao returned to the office, and he noticed a security guard sitting at the front desk. He casually asked, "Where's Xiaojia? Hasn't she finished her meal yet?" The security guard stood up and replied, "She's busy with something else." "Oh?" the security guard said mysteriously, "It's the job you, Mr. Cheng, assigned her! A caregiver." Cheng Zhao slapped his head. "Where's she?" "She's interviewing in the small conference room!" Cheng Zhao went straight to the small conference room. A row of chairs had been added to the entrance, and five or six men and women in their forties and fifties were sitting there, whispering to each other. Cheng Zhao's arrival interrupted their conversation, and everyone turned their attention to him, curiously trying to identify him. The conference room door was open. Ge Xiaojia sat at the center of the U-shaped conference table, chatting with a man in his fifties. The man was a little reserved, especially when he noticed a leader standing at the door, and his expression tensed. Ge Xiaojia followed his gaze and saw it was Cheng Zhao. She quickly stood up, "Mr. Cheng!" The shout was heard by everyone inside and outside, and they all stood in awe, staring at Cheng Zhao with the awe of someone holding the power of life and death, making him feel uneasy. "You guys go on chatting. I'm fine, just looking around." He waved his hand, turned around, and walked away, then turned back after two steps. "Xiaojia, come out for a moment." Ge Xiaojia immediately trotted out. Cheng Zhao led her to the corner of the hallway, where no one was. Cheng Zhao asked quietly, "Where did you find these people?" "Friends recommended them, and I found some myself online." "What do you think? Are there any suitable ones?" "One or two." "Then, after you've finished, keep the ones you like, and I'll interview them in person. Let's cut the Gordian knot and try to get it done today!" "No problem!" Ge Xiaojia ran off happily. Cheng Zhao felt a little proud of himself. He had a good eye, and the employees he hired were all very capable. It was almost five o'clock when Ge Xiaojia knocked on the door, his voice high and clear...

Cheng Zhao took several employees who participated in the bidding to a restaurant for a meal and talked a lot about the project, especially the progress control. Cheng Zhao had only given a general idea before, but during the meal and discussion, Yu Huan had already listed all the details of the project progress, pointing out which links could further save labor hours, so that everyone could have a general idea.

On the way back after checking out, while everyone else was walking behind, Cheng Zhao patted Yu Huan on the shoulder and said, "What a talent! I poached you from XX Company and even paid your compensation. It was all worth it!"

Yu Huan showed a simple smile.

It was already two o'clock when Cheng Zhao returned to the company. He found a security guard sitting at the front desk. He casually asked, "Where's Xiaojia? Hasn't she finished her meal yet?"

The security guard stood up and answered, "She's busy with something else."

"oh?"

The security guard acted mysterious, "It's the thing you told her to do, Mr. Cheng! Nurse."

Cheng Zhao slapped his head, "Where is she?"

"The interview is in a small conference room!"

Cheng Zhao went straight to the small conference room. A row of chairs had been added to the entrance, and five or six men and women in their forties and fifties were sitting there, whispering to each other. Cheng Zhao's arrival interrupted their conversation, and they all turned their eyes to him, curiously and diligently trying to figure out his identity.

The door to the conference room was open. Ge Xiaojia sat at the center of the U-shaped conference table, chatting with a man in his fifties. The man was a little reserved, especially when he noticed a leader-like figure standing at the door. His expression suddenly tensed.

Ge Xiaojia followed his gaze and saw that it was Cheng Zhao. He quickly stood up and said, "Mr. Cheng!"

Everyone inside and outside heard the shout and stood in awe, staring at Cheng Zhao with the awe of someone who had the power of life and death, making him feel uncomfortable all over.

"You guys continue chatting, I have nothing to do, just looking around."

He waved his hand, turned around and walked away, but after two steps he turned back.

"Xiao Jia, come out for a moment."

Ge Xiaojia immediately trotted out. Cheng Zhao took her to the corner of the aisle, where no one was.

Cheng Zhao asked quietly, "Where did you find these people?"

“Some were recommended by friends, and some were bought online by myself.”

"What do you think? Is there anything suitable?"

"One or two."

"Then leave the ones you like after you finish reading them, and I'll interview them in person. Let's cut the Gordian knot and try to get it done today!"

"No problem!" Ge Xiaojia ran away happily.

Cheng Zhao was somewhat proud of himself, thinking that he had a good eye and that the employees he recruited were all very capable.

At around five o'clock, Ge Xiaojia knocked on the door and said in a loud voice, "Mr. Cheng, it's all done!"

"Come in and talk!"

Ge Xiaojia handed a stack of interview materials to Cheng Zhao. Cheng Zhao took a look and actually gave each person a score.

"Where did you get the form?"

“I downloaded it from the Internet!”

"Okay! Tell me about the situation."

"I think the two at the top are the best. This one's called Xiao Kang, he's 54 years old. He used to work in a welfare hospital and has a lot of experience caring for the elderly..."

"Then how did it come out?"

“The salary is too low.”

"And there's this one down there called Liu Cui, 57 years old. She worked as a private nurse for two years. She later went home to take care of her grandson, and now that he's in school, she's free to work again. They're both locals, so their backgrounds are pretty reliable. They're both nice people, too. Xiao Kang doesn't talk much, but he's very concise, so I think he's quite reliable. If you don't mind, I'll have them come in separately to talk to you."

"Okay!" Cheng Zhao patted the stack of interview papers. "Xiao Jia, thank you for your hard work!"

Ge Xiaojia smiled sweetly, "As I should!"

Cheng Zhao spent half an hour meeting the two candidate caregivers. As Ge Xiaojia had said, each had their strengths. He personally preferred Liu Cui, a plump, white, and sturdy woman with a sharp mind and quick reactions. Xiao Kang, by comparison, was more passive. Considering Gan Wenkang's picky nature, Cheng Zhao felt Liu Cui would be more capable of handling the situation than Xiao Kang.

Liu Cui was good at chatting, and in a short while she understood Gan Wenkang's situation clearly.

"So should I get my wages from you or from Teacher Gan?"

Cheng Zhao thought for a moment and said, "Teacher Gan will give it to you. But if you do a good job and Teacher Gan is satisfied, I will also give you a bonus."

"Oh! Then I can get two!" Liu Cui smiled from ear to ear.

The two of them were chatting happily, and Liu Cui suddenly asked, "Mr. Cheng, what is your relationship with this Teacher Gan?"

Cheng Zhao pursed his lips, thought for a moment, and said, "Him, actually, it's me, my future father-in-law."

Liu Cui suddenly realized, "Okay! Mr. Cheng, don't worry, I will definitely serve your father-in-law comfortably!"

Cheng Zhao restrained his expression and reminded her, "Aunt Liu, just keep this enthusiasm in your heart. Don't talk too much in front of Teacher Gan. It will seem unprofessional. Teacher Gan is a very particular person."

"I understand! Promise to keep your mouth shut!"

"Well, I still need to discuss it with my girlfriend before I can make a decision. I might ask you to meet with Teacher Gan in a couple of days. Keep your phone open!"

"I know! I know! Then I'll wait for news from Mr. Cheng!"

"Yeah, okay!"

After seeing Liu Cui off, Cheng Zhao called Gan Ling in a very good mood, but she didn't answer.

Cheng Zhao checked the time. It was almost six o'clock. Could she be on her way home? Unwilling to give up, he sent another message to Gan Ling, asking her where she was and saying he had something important to discuss with her.

After waiting for five or six minutes, Gan Ling replied with just five words: Huajie Cafe.

Cheng Zhao looked at these five words from top to bottom. Does this mean that he wants me to find her in the cafe?

Huajie Cafe is very close to Xiaoxi Lane, just three blocks away. There are new buildings and mid- to high-end communities nearby. One of the streets is called Lihua Street, and Huajie Cafe is right at the beginning of the street. Outside the curved floor-to-ceiling glass wall is a beautiful small square with a great view.

Cheng Zhao found this place with the help of navigation. There was an open-air parking lot in a corner of the square opposite the cafe. After he drove the car there and parked it, he did not get out immediately. Instead, he looked in front of the cafe. There were several huge rust-red parasols there. After the sun went down, some customers sat under the parasols, drinking coffee and chatting, or waiting for people.

Gan Ling was sitting under one of the umbrellas. She was not alone. There was a man sitting opposite her with his back to Cheng Zhao. They were too far away, so he didn't recognize who he was. He felt nervous for a moment. Was Gan Ling out for another blind date?

He parked the car and hurried towards the cafe. When he was about twenty meters away from Gan Ling's umbrella, his pace suddenly slowed down. He recognized the man: Wei Chi. No wonder Gan Ling looked so awkward.

Gan Ling raised her eyes and saw Cheng Zhao, but did not react. Perhaps it was because Wei Chi was still chattering. Soon, his voice entered the range that Cheng Zhao could hear.

"Honestly, Gan Ling, stay away from that guy. I'm not against him, I'm just thinking about you. Even if we get divorced, I still hope you'll be fine..."

Cheng Zhao walked up behind Wei Chi and leaned his hands on the back of his chair. "Mr. Wei, you're here to say bad things about me, right? You must be really full!"

Wei Chi was absorbed in slandering Cheng Zhao, but he didn't expect that the person he was slandering suddenly appeared from behind him. This startled him so much that he jumped out of his chair. He turned around quickly and stared at Cheng Zhao in horror.

"You, why are you here?"

Cheng Zhao stared at him calmly, "What do you think?"

Wei Chi was no fool. He suddenly realized something and cast a accusing gaze at Gan Ling, "Have you already been with him..."

Cheng Zhao interjected, "I didn't feel comfortable saying this in your office today. After all, that's where we discuss business. I can always distinguish between public and private matters."

Wei Chi just ignored him and continued to stare at Gan Ling, "Is that so?"

Gan Ling did not deny it, but only said: "Wei Chi, you really don't need to worry about my affairs from now on."

Wei Chi's face turned red and white, and his eyes immediately changed from surprise to resentment. He had lived a smooth life for most of his life, but he didn't expect that he had fallen more in the past few days than in the previous thirty years combined, and it was all because of this arrogant guy in front of him.

He sneered, "Ha! What's there to be proud of? Aren't you just playing with what I left?"

Cheng Zhao's expression suddenly changed. Without a word, he launched his fist towards Wei Chi, hitting him squarely on the left cheek. Wei Chi howled and fell to the ground. Cheng Zhao wasn't ready to let him go. He rushed forward, straddling Wei Chi and hammering him down with punch after punch, without hesitation. The few guests nearby cried out in surprise. Cheng Zhao could no longer hear anything. He only felt that Wei Chi was hateful and that he had long wanted to deal with him personally.

It was Gan Ling who finally woke Cheng Zhao up. "Cheng Zhao! Do you want to kill someone?!"

Although Wei Chi was a sharp talker, he couldn't take a beating at all. He held his head and cried for his parents. Cheng Zhao had already stopped beating him, but he was still howling. It was so embarrassing. Cheng Zhao's anger also disappeared, and he felt very bored.

He let go of Wei Chi, stood up, and muttered, "What a fucking useless guy!"

Gan Ling glared at him, and together with the waiter who ran out of the cafe, helped Wei Chi up.

Wei Chi trembled, finally regaining his balance. He touched his face, which was swollen in several places, but not broken. Although Cheng Zhao resented his behavior, he hadn't lost his wits. When he attacked, he was exaggerated but measured, not wanting to get himself involved.

He approached Wei Chi, who noticed and stepped back in fear, "What are you doing?"

Gan Ling stood in front of Wei Chi and said to Cheng Zhao, "Stop messing around!"

Cheng Zhao spread his hands, "I didn't mean to do anything! Can't I just take a look at him?"

Wei Chi hid behind Gan Ling and spat blood on the ground. He screamed, "I need to go to the hospital!"
