Chapter 23 Gu Sheng looked at Su Yin and said, "Speak..."
Gu Sheng looked at Su Yin and said, "Speak, what is it?"
Su Yin said with a serious expression, "You should have heard that there have been many heinous murders in J City in the past year."
Gu Sheng listened quietly, thinking to himself: I've never heard of it, I don't know.
Su Yin continued, “After investigation, we found that these cases all have one thing in common.” His face darkened as he continued, “Before committing the crimes, these people had all received treatment from the same psychologist, Lu Yan, who is a professor of criminal psychology at J City University.”
Gu Sheng raised an eyebrow: "A criminal psychology professor as a psychologist?" Is that right?
Su Yin said, "He also has a doctorate in psychology and a license to be a psychologist. He's perfectly qualified to be a psychologist, but..."
But what?
Su Yin continued, "He is inducing his patient to commit a crime."
Gu Sheng felt that it was not surprising that a professor of criminal psychology would induce his patients to commit crimes.
Gu Sheng said, "In that case, why not just arrest him?"
Gu Sheng felt that he had nothing to do with this.
Su Yin frowned slightly and said, "If only it were that simple. The problem now is that there's no evidence. The suspect claims that everything was his own will and had nothing to do with Lü Yan."
Gu Sheng said, "Since the suspect said that, perhaps the psychologist really is innocent?"
Su Yin's voice instantly rose: "Impossible, it's him."
Gu Sheng silently watched the excited Su Yin.
Su Yin calmed herself down and said, "You'll understand when you see him."
Then he brought up another matter: "There is a case now. A man suspects that his daughter is not his own, so he has hidden her. No matter how we interrogate him, he refuses to reveal the girl's location. The girl's situation is currently unknown. The longer this drags on, the more dangerous it becomes for her."
Gu Sheng asked with some curiosity, "Why would he have such suspicions? He even went to see a psychologist. Could he really have a mental illness?"
Su Yin said, "Because he witnessed his wife's infidelity with his own eyes."
Gu Sheng's eyes widened slightly. He saw it with his own eyes? That would certainly raise suspicions, but since there was suspicion, he asked, "Didn't he get a paternity test?"
Su Yin said, "No, that's the problem. Actually, the suspect knew about his wife's affair all along, but he chose to endure it for the sake of his daughter. Then, for some reason, he suddenly hid his daughter. Before that, he received psychological guidance from Lu Yan."
Gu Sheng asked with some curiosity, "What about his wife?" Clearly, his wife was the culprit, so why is only his daughter being targeted?
Su Yin said, "His wife was killed in their home."
Gu Sheng thought: Shouldn't this kind of thing be mentioned first?
However, Su Yin clearly believed that this was not important information.
He said, "These things are not important. The most important thing now is to rescue the girl. Unfortunately, we can't get the suspect to talk. The only person who is most likely to get the suspect to tell the truth is Lu Yan."
Gu Sheng said, "Lu Yan isn't cooperating?"
Su Yin became agitated: "He could not possibly cooperate. He did it on purpose. He was the one leading the suspect to commit the crime."
Su Yin closed his eyes, calmed down, and said, "Now we can only rely on you." He looked at Gu Sheng and said, "I know you can hypnotize, and you're very good at it."
Gu Sheng mentally pointed to himself: Me? Hypnotist? Didn't they say I was a detective? Am I a hypnotic detective?
It doesn't seem like it's impossible, but he doesn't know how to hypnotize.
Gu Sheng knew he couldn't take on this job, and entrusting the girl's life to him was, in his view, the greatest irresponsibility.
Professional matters should be handled by professionals. For example, Li Qingyue might be able to help.
Just as Gu Sheng was about to recommend Li Qingyue to Su Yin, the helicopter landed, and they arrived at their destination.
This is the headquarters of the J City Police Department. The planes are parked upstairs, and people are coming and going downstairs; it looks very busy.
Just as the plane came to a complete stop, someone rushed up to Su Yin and said, "The suspect committed suicide in the detention room."
As Su Yin walked down, she asked, "What happened?"
The man said, "He took advantage of the guard's inattention and banged his head against the wall, bleeding a lot and losing consciousness. He has now been sent to the hospital for emergency treatment."
Su Yin said, "We must save him. He can't die yet." The man responded and left. Su Yin looked at Gu Sheng and said, "The suspect's fate is unknown. The only breakthrough we have now is Lu Yan."
Just as he was speaking, someone else came over: "Where have you been? Lu Yan's imprisonment time is only four hours left, hurry up and come here."
Su Yin looked at Gu Sheng: "Let's go, we've been waiting for you."
Gu Sheng was about to refuse, but seeing the busy scene before him, he swallowed his words. Everyone was working hard, and it wouldn't be appropriate for Gu Sheng to say anything discouraging at this time. Besides, there were only four hours left, and it would be too late to call Li Qingyue now.
He can give it a try, but: "I can't guarantee it will be successful."
Su Yin said, "Since I chose to find you, it's naturally because you are capable. I remember you weren't this self-deprecating person before."
Before? Gu Sheng has no past.
Gu Sheng didn't know why Su Yin thought he could definitely do it, but for now, he should go and meet the legendary Lü Yan.
Su Yin led Gu Sheng into the interrogation room. Two guards stood at the door and outside the room. Inside, two sheriffs sat behind the interrogation table, staring at the person in the middle of the room.
In the middle of the interrogation room sat a middle-aged man with a refined demeanor. Unlike the solemnity of the interrogation room, he appeared relaxed and at ease, as if he were sitting not in an interrogation chair, but on a university lecture platform.
This person should be Lu Yan, whom Su Yin mentioned.
Upon seeing Gu Sheng and Su Yin enter, Lü Yan glanced at Gu Sheng with indifference in his eyes. After glancing at Su Yin, he immediately perked up, smiled, and said to Su Yin, "Long time no see, Detective Su Yin."
Su Yin clearly disliked Lü Yan. He looked at Lü Yan expressionlessly and said, "Lü Yan, are you suffering from dementia? We just saw each other half a day ago."
Lu Yan looked like he had just remembered and said, "Is that so? I didn't even realize it until you mentioned it. Judging by the time, I can go home in four hours."
He looked at Su Yin and said, "Great Detective, have you found the evidence you're looking for?"
Looking at Su Yin's gloomy expression, Lu Yan knew that he hadn't found out anything. He smiled with pleasure and said, "There are still four hours left. How does the great detective plan to interrogate me?"
Su Yin picked up a chair, placed it against the wall, and sat down.
He ignored Lü Yan's words, looked at Gu Sheng, and said, "We can start anytime."
Gu Sheng, who had been like an invisible man, was finally noticed. After Su Yin looked at Gu Sheng, the sheriff sitting behind the interrogation table also looked at Gu Sheng, and Lu Yan also looked at Gu Sheng.
Feeling a bit flustered under everyone's gaze, Gu Sheng didn't show it, but simply straightened his back silently.
Lu Yan looked at Gu Sheng and smiled: "Are you serious about finding a little kid to interrogate me?"
Gu Sheng thought silently: Who is the little baby? How do I look like a little baby?
As if he could hear Gu Sheng's thoughts, Lü Yan said, "I'm talking about your mental age."
Gu Sheng was startled. How did he know what he was thinking? Was this person really someone Gu Sheng could understand?
The two sheriffs were not affected by Lü Yan. One of them stood up, walked to the side, and gave his seat to Gu Sheng.
Gu Sheng felt that Su Yin must have told them not to be influenced by Lü Yan's words.
At the sheriff's signal, Gu Sheng sat down at the interrogation table.
However, his only feeling right now was one of helplessness; he didn't know how to interrogate anyone.
Under everyone's gaze, Gu Sheng felt he had to say something.
However, he felt his mouth was a little dry, so he said, "Could I have a glass of water?"
The sheriff, who had been standing to one side, walked out of the interrogation room, and the room fell silent.
Everyone else's eyes remained on Gu Sheng, waiting for his next move.
Gu Sheng swallowed hard, looked at Lü Yan, and said with a forced smile, "Did you instigate the suspect to kill his wife?"
Lu Yan chuckled softly, seemingly amused by Gu Sheng's unprofessional question. He replied seriously, "No, I would never incite my patients to commit crimes."
That's true, it's impossible to admit it so easily no matter how you look at it.
Gu Sheng felt he had asked a pointless question.
Then Gu Sheng fell silent. All he could think of now was nonsense, and he had nothing to say except nonsense.
Just then, the sheriff entered the interrogation room carrying water and handed it to Gu Sheng.
Gu Sheng took the water, drank a sip, and then stared blankly at the glass.
Holding some things in his hands made Gu Sheng feel less awkward.
Gu Sheng unconsciously twirled the cup in his hand, adjusting its position until the light reflected off the cup, creating a faint, inconspicuous gleam. Only then did he stop.
Then he rotated the cup in a different direction, letting the reflected light travel across the wall. Occasionally, when it encountered an obstacle, the light would shine on that obstacle.
Gu Sheng unconsciously moved the cup, letting the flash of light occasionally pass over Lü Yan's eyes. Because the light was too weak and passed by very quickly, Lü Yan did not notice anything unusual.
No one else noticed this small detail either.
The silence was somewhat awkward, and Gu Sheng looked at the others in the interrogation room.
The sheriff continued to stare intently at Lü Yan, while Lü Yan's gaze remained fixed on Su Yin, who was coldly meeting Lü Yan's eyes.
Finding that no one was paying attention to him, Gu Sheng felt a little relieved.
Just then, Gu Sheng noticed a book next to him called "Criminals and Psychology," written by Lü Yan.
Several files were pressed under the book.
Since he had nothing else to do, he held the cup in one hand and opened a book to read with the other.
Gu Sheng read ten lines at a glance, so fast that he himself didn't realize how fast he was reading.
He simply flipped through the pages one by one until he finished reading the book. Then he picked up the files and started reading them. Only after he finished reading the files did he realize that a long time had passed.
Gu Sheng was initially flustered, wondering if four hours had passed. He looked at the clock on the wall and was surprised to find that only a little over an hour had gone by.
