Chapter 24 Gu Sheng cautiously glanced at the others…

Gu Sheng cautiously glanced at the others. He saw Su Yin leaning against the wall, resting with her eyes closed. Lu Yan was looking down at the ground, seemingly lost in thought. The sheriff sitting next to him had changed; the new sheriff was still keeping a close eye on Lu Yan.

Gu Sheng glanced at the time again; there was still an hour left before Lü Yan left.

Something has to be done.

He held the glass, thinking of something to say to break the silence of the interrogation room.

Gu Sheng glanced at the book on the table, then at Lü Yan, who was looking down, and said, "This book is well written."

As he spoke, he looked at the files on murder cases that had occurred that year, which were placed next to the book: "These cases are in the same vein as the others."

Upon hearing this, Lü Yan suddenly looked up, a cold glint flashing in his eyes as he stared at Gu Sheng.

Su Yin opened his eyes and stood up from his chair. He looked at the book on the table. He knew that the author of the book was Lü Yan. He asked eagerly, "What did you find?"

The sheriff also looked at Gu Sheng.

Once again under everyone's gaze, Gu Sheng could only think, "Does this reaction really need to be so strong?"

Gu Sheng tapped the water glass in his hand lightly with his finger, making a slight clinking sound. He said, "There's nothing particularly important to discover, except that the contents of the book are related to these cases."

Su Yin picked up the book and flipped through it a few times, then said, "What's the connection?" He had read this book before, but he hadn't found any connection between its contents and those cases.

It must be admitted that Lü Yan is an excellent scholar. His book is essential reading for those studying psychology. Many people have read the book, but no one has ever connected it with those cases.

For the first time, Lü Yan looked Gu Sheng directly in the eye, a hint of excitement in his eyes, and asked, "What did you figure out?"

Seeing Lü Yan's expression, Su Yin was surprised. There really was a connection? He began to carefully read through the book.

Gu Sheng shared his discovery: "Isn't it obvious? Half of the cases listed in the book are real cases, and the other half are cases written by the author. These cases written by the author have something in common with the cases in the archives."

After looking for a while and still not finding anything, Su Yin asked, "What do they have in common?"

Gu Sheng said, "Didn't you say that these cases were all cases of induced crime? The cases in the book were also cases of induced crime, so that's a common point, right?"

Su Yin frowned and said, "I've read this book, and I didn't see any content about inducing people to commit crimes."

Lu Yan suddenly laughed: "So you're one of us. I almost fell for your trick. Your acting is excellent."

Gu Sheng silently complained, "Who wants to be like you?"

Gu Sheng ignored Lü Yan and continued answering Su Yin's question. He said, "Some subtle hints, written in the books, indicate that an optimistic person suddenly becomes violent and kills their own brother. A cowardly person cruelly murders someone who once helped them. A patient person suddenly chooses revenge and kills the perpetrator."

He continued, “As case studies, the book provides scenarios and reasons, which seem fine at first glance. However, if you look at these cases separately, you will find many discordant elements.”

Su Yin looked at the words in the book and seemed to understand something. He said, "Since it says that he has an optimistic personality, such a person usually won't suddenly become violent over a small matter, let alone hurt someone who is his own brother."

Gu Sheng said, "This book is very rigorous. Given the author's level, the case studies he compiled should not have such obvious omissions."

Gu Sheng turned his head and met Lü Yan's gaze. He continued, "Moreover, since it's about inducing crime, who could induce the characters in the book to do these things?"

Su Yin also looked at Lu Yan and said, "The one who can decide the future of the characters in the book is naturally the author who wrote the book."

Gu Sheng said, “That’s right,” he said to Lü Yan, “It was you who induced the characters in the book to commit those crimes, but the characters in the book alone are not enough, or you want to change your writing method.”

Su Yin understood Gu Sheng's meaning, and he continued Gu Sheng's words, saying, "He is using reality as paper and patients as pens to continue writing this book."

Hearing Su Yin's words, Gu Sheng smiled and said, "Yes, that's it. This is just my little, insignificant discovery."

Gu Sheng wasn't being modest when he said that. In his view, it was indeed just a trivial discovery, because the discovery itself didn't help the case at all.

These are just their guesses. As long as Lu Yan doesn't admit it, they have no way to convict him based on this.

However, it is clear that some people have different ideas from Gu Sheng.

Lu Yan looked at Gu Sheng with a scrutinizing gaze: "I didn't expect it to be you." He looked at Su Yin with disappointment in his eyes, "What a pity, great detective, your integrity prevents you from seeing the truth."

Su Yin looked at Lü Yan and said, "Are you admitting that you induced the suspect to kill his wife and hide his daughter?"

Lu Yan raised his head slightly, narrowed his eyes, and smiled: "How naive you are, great detective. I didn't say anything."

Just as Gu Sheng had just thought, these conjectures alone are not enough to convict Lu Yan.

Although Su Yin was seething with hatred, he could only snort.

Lu Yan's gaze toward Gu Sheng grew increasingly intense, leaving Gu Sheng somewhat bewildered. He subconsciously tapped his glass with his fingers.

Su Yin asked, "Are there any other discoveries?" He needed more conclusive evidence.

Gu Sheng shook his head. He had just arrived and had only read one book and a few files. What else could an outsider who knew nothing else possibly discover?

However, looking at Lü Yan's increasingly unfocused eyes, Gu Sheng realized that he had unknowingly hypnotized Lü Yan just now.

He swallowed hard. He was stunned when he discovered this. He really hadn't done anything, but he knew exactly what he had done.

It was that glass of water that, through sound and light, put Lu Yan into a state of light hypnosis.

Gu Sheng thought to himself, "He's too amazing."

Unfortunately, hypnosis is not a panacea, especially for people with sharp minds and strong wills. It has little effect and is almost impossible to be deeply hypnotized. Moreover, the hypnosis will fail once the person being hypnotized realizes that they have been hypnotized.

Not to mention that Lu Yan himself is a master of psychology, and Gu Sheng was surprised that he could hypnotize him.

Gu Sheng glanced at Su Yin, implying that he had hypnotized Lü Yan, but unfortunately, Su Yin was looking at Lü Yan the whole time and didn't look at Gu Sheng at all.

Moreover, although Su Yin did not look at Gu Sheng, Lu Yan was staring intently at Gu Sheng, making Gu Sheng dare not give any more hints.

Since teammates can't be relied on, you can only rely on yourself.

Gu Sheng glanced at the clock on the wall; there was still some time left.

How should I ask?

As he thought about it, some knowledge flooded into his mind: First, he couldn't ask about anything related to Lu Yan; Lu Yan would definitely be very vigilant about things concerning himself, and it would be easy to discover his flaws.

Then, do not focus your questions on convicting the common people, for the same reasons as above.

Finally, his purpose in coming here was to rescue the girl. As the suspect's psychologist, Lu Yan must know, or at least be able to guess, where the suspect would hide the girl.

Therefore, Gu Sheng's goal is to find the location where the girl is hidden.

With a target in mind, Gu Sheng tapped his water glass with his fingers as he asked, "Do you know where the suspect hid the girl?"

Gu Sheng appeared casual, but he was actually carefully observing every change in Lü Yan's expression. He saw Lü Yan's mouth open slightly and then immediately close, and his eyeballs twitched slightly.

Lu Yan wanted to say the answer, but the moment he opened his mouth, he realized something was wrong. How could he possibly tell anyone else something like this? His doubts began to surface.

Gu Sheng muttered a complaint: This is really difficult. I can't even ask directly.

He took a sip of water, then deliberately slammed the cup back onto the table, the sound attracting Lü Yan's attention and making him forget his earlier doubts.

Lu Yan said, "My answer remains the same: I don't know. The patient has never mentioned these things to me."

Su Yin glanced at the time, then gently bit his lip. The pain kept him alert, and the metallic taste in his mouth calmed his anxiety.

Since Su Yin had invited Gu Sheng, it meant he trusted Gu Sheng. Although time was running out, he still did not urge Gu Sheng.

He simply said, "We've already asked all those questions," as he sat down at the table, picked up the notebook, and handed it to Gu Sheng. "Asking like this is useless."

Gu Sheng and Su Yin met eyes. He dared not be too obvious, for fear of being discovered by Lu Yan, so he could only keep looking at Su Yin, hoping that Su Yin could understand his meaning.

What he meant was: Just because you can't get the answer doesn't mean I can't; I hypnotized him!

Unfortunately, Su Yin didn't understand. After Gu Sheng stared straight at him, he asked, "Are your eyes uncomfortable?"

Gu Sheng looked away and said, "It's nothing." If you don't understand, just leave it at that. We'll talk about it when we have the results.

Holding the notebook, he asked, "Do I have to take notes myself from now on?"

The sheriff standing next to Gu Sheng said, "I'll be in charge of taking notes."

Gu Sheng nodded, handed the record to the sheriff, and said, "Make sure you remember this."

He looked at Lu Yan, realizing that a direct question wouldn't work; he had to take a roundabout approach. In an instant, he had a set of indirect questions and answers in his mind.

Gu Sheng silently thought: He hoped that "he" could be more reliable and that he could get the answers he wanted to these questions.

Gu Sheng looked at Lü Yan and said, "Then, could you tell me when you met the suspect?"

There's nothing that can't be answered in this kind of question. Even if Lü Yan doesn't answer, Gu Sheng can find out. So, Lü Yan gave a clear answer to Gu Sheng's question: "This patient came to my consultation room 41 days ago."

After speaking, Lü Yan frowned slightly. He felt a strange sense of unease, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what was wrong. He watched as Gu Sheng played with the water glass in his hand, the water reflecting light onto the wall.

Gu Sheng tapped his water glass: "Very good, now for the next question, where did you first meet?"

Lu Yan didn't know why Gu Sheng was asking such a meaningless question. Every time he tried to think about it carefully, he would be disturbed by the sound of Gu Sheng's fingers tapping on the water glass, thus forgetting what he was thinking.

The sound was very soft, but it sounded extremely harsh to Lu Yan's ears.

He focused on interrogating Gu Sheng, saying, "Right here in my counseling room."
