Chapter 32 "He is the murderer!" Cast list...
"He's the murderer!" the actress exclaimed dramatically, pointing at the young actor beside her.
"This, this is impossible." The elderly actor took two steps back, his face full of disbelief.
The young actor sneered, "I really didn't expect you to find out. In that case, I guess I'll just have to say goodbye!"
Gu Sheng yawned as he sat in the audience.
Su Yin sat beside him, watching with great interest.
Yesterday, Su Yin suddenly invited Gu Sheng to J City, saying that it was to thank Gu Sheng for his previous help, so he decided to invite him to see a very popular play.
Gu Sheng had never seen a play before, but he agreed out of curiosity.
Now he regrets it, he really regrets it.
The play was great, and everyone around was engrossed in it, but Gu Sheng wasn't really interested; he was so sleepy he just wanted to go to bed.
After falling asleep again and then suddenly waking up, Gu Sheng decided to go to the toilet to wash his face.
"I'm going to the restroom," Gu Sheng nudged Su Yin and said softly.
Su Yin was so engrossed in watching that she didn't turn to look at Gu Sheng, but simply nodded casually.
Gu Sheng was speechless. Was this a request for him to see, or did Su Yin want to see it himself?
Gu Sheng carefully made his way through the crowd to the corridor, and then followed the signs to the restroom.
After washing his face, Gu Sheng felt much more awake.
However, he didn't want to go back so soon, so he found a seat in the corridor, sat down, and started playing on his phone.
The restrooms were in a very remote location. Since it wasn't closing time yet, there was no one there, and it was very quiet.
Gu Sheng scrolled through videos for a while, feeling it was about time, and was about to turn off his phone when a news article suddenly popped up on the screen:
"Breaking news: Dozens of armed robbers have occupied the Star Theater, taking control of more than 500 actors and audience members. The Public Security Bureau has dispatched negotiation experts to make contact with the robbers."
Gu Sheng blinked as he looked at the news article, then silently turned to look at the wall behind him. On the wall was a theater icon, a star, with the words "Star Theater" written below.
mischief?
Gu Sheng looked down at his phone again and found that it had lost signal at some point.
The signal has been blocked.
It seems it wasn't a prank; the news just now must be true.
Gu Sheng was speechless; why did he always seem to run into all sorts of trouble?
Just then, Gu Sheng heard footsteps coming from afar, and those footsteps were clearly not those of ordinary spectators.
Gu Sheng hid silently around the corner, listening intently to the approaching sounds.
There were two men, and one of them said to the other, "Why go to the toilet? Just do it by the wall. It's a waste of time."
Another person said with disdain, "Who knows how long we'll be staying here? Do you want to keep smelling urine all the time?"
Another person said, "Pretentious."
The two men were walking heavily, so they must have been carrying a lot of things.
Gu Sheng calculated the positions of the two people, staring down at the floor at the corner.
The moment one of the men's feet came into Gu Sheng's view, he crouched down slightly, and then, just as the man turned the corner, he struck the man's neck with his hand like a knife.
The person who was hit lost consciousness without even uttering a sound.
The other man noticed something was wrong and instantly turned to draw his gun: "What..." He was fast, but Gu Sheng was even faster.
Gu Sheng took a step forward, then used one hand to control the man's gun-wielding hand, and the other hand to grab his neck, pressing his thumb against his throat to forcefully suppress the words he was about to say, causing the man's eyes to roll back instantly.
The man instinctively dropped the gun in his hand and grabbed Gu Sheng's hand, beginning to struggle.
Gu Sheng held the man's neck firmly, refusing to let go no matter how much he struggled.
Gu Sheng bent down and picked up the gun from the ground. The man's struggles became weaker and weaker until he only had the strength to open his mouth wide and try to breathe.
Seeing that the man's face was flushed and he seemed to be losing consciousness, Gu Sheng loosened his grip slightly.
The man finally got some fresh air. He gasped for breath, his complexion improved somewhat, and he looked at Gu Sheng with fear in his eyes, no longer daring to struggle.
Gu Sheng pulled him around the corner and whispered, "I'll ask, you answer."
The man nodded vigorously, indicating that he would cooperate.
Gu Sheng asked, "Who are you people?"
The man said, "We are 'watchmakers'."
Gu Sheng frowned: "You? Watchmakers? Do you think I'm easy to fool?"
The man waved his hands repeatedly and said, "No, no, we are not watchmakers. Our organization is called 'Watchmakers'."
Gu Sheng asked, "What does your organization do, and how many people are there?"
The man said, "We are just an ordinary bandit organization."
Gu Sheng silently watched the man, thinking to himself: How can a robbery organization be connected with ordinary people?
The man was clearly frightened by Gu Sheng. He dared not hide anything and told him everything he knew: "There are only sixteen people in our organization, and they all came this time."
He continued, "I'm just here to make up the numbers. It was all the boss's idea. Don't kill me."
Gu Sheng asked, "Boss?"
The man nodded vigorously: "Yes, it was the boss, and three other officers. They forced us to do it."
Gu Sheng asked again, "A cadre? Introduce him?"
The man looked bewildered and said, "Huh? Well, I'm just a nobody, I don't know much. All I know is that they only use code names. The boss's code name is 'Gear.' I heard he used to be a very skilled mercenary. The other three are 'Hand,' 'Wind-up,' and 'Swivel Spring.'"
The man recalled for a moment and said, "'Hand' is very skilled with computers; he can hack into any system. 'Clockwork' is very knowledgeable about mechanics and can open any door. 'Windspring' used to be a psychologist; he was in charge of gathering intelligence."
Gu Sheng frowned slightly. Mercenaries? Hackers? Mechanics? Psychologists? "What are they doing hijacking the theater?"
The man lowered his voice and said, "Actually, we didn't come here to hijack the theater. There's a bank next to this theater. The boss said that if we dig a tunnel from here, we can reach the bank's vault. Right now, 'Silk' is dealing with the police department, and the others are digging the tunnel."
Gu Sheng nodded, indicating that he understood. Indeed, how much money could be made by hijacking a theater? Of course, shooting a bank would be more cost-effective.
"Tell me about your boss's plans," Gu Sheng said.
The man looked like he was about to cry: "I don't know, I really don't know. The boss only told us to dig a tunnel, and he didn't tell us anything else."
Gu Sheng asked a few more questions, and after confirming that he couldn't get any more information, he knocked the person in front of him unconscious with a chop to the neck.
Gu Sheng searched the two men and found two handguns, two rifles, a bulletproof vest, some tools, and rope.
Gu Sheng tied the two people up with a rope and threw them into the toilet stall.
Then, armed with a pistol, dagger, and body armor, he climbed up the ceiling vent.
Gu Sheng took out his phone and glanced at it. There was still no signal. He wondered how Su Yin was doing. But since Su Yin was so smart, he might have already found a way to escape.
Gu Sheng carefully crawled forward through the ventilation ducts, passing through the corridor and office area, finally arriving at the performance hall.
Gu Sheng looked into the hall and saw that all the audience members were crouching in front of their seats with their heads in their hands, while three robbers with guns were walking back and forth in the crowd.
Gu Sheng's position wasn't ideal, and his view wasn't comprehensive. He climbed forward a bit more and came to the middle of the performance hall, where he could see the entire hall's movements clearly.
Gu Sheng saw three corpses lying at the entrance of the hall; judging from their clothes, they were probably theater security guards.
He frowned, felt sorry for the few security guards, and then continued to observe the rest of the hall.
Gu Sheng discovered that there were only three robbers in the hall; the others were not there.
I should have asked them again where they dug the tunnel; now I don't know where to find the other people.
Then Gu Sheng discovered that Su Yin was directly below him.
Su Yin appeared to be obediently squatting there, but in reality, he was observing the three robbers, looking for a breakthrough, while also exchanging messages with other spectators who also wanted to do something.
Gu Sheng thought for a moment. The dome of the performance hall was very high. He could jump down, but he would definitely be exposed instantly. He didn't know where the other robbers were or if they had more powerful weapons.
It's best not to reveal anything when everything is still uncertain.
Gu Sheng looked at the dust in the vent and had an idea.
Su Yin was secretly organizing people to prepare for a breakout.
He keenly realized that although these robbers had been actively contacting the police department to demand ransom, their real purpose was not that.
Su Yin saw more than Gu Sheng; he saw the robbers carrying many tools walk into another unused hall.
Thinking of the bank right next door, he roughly guessed what the robbers were planning to do.
Since they came for the bank, the robbers wouldn't keep a close watch on these hostages, which is both a good thing and a bad thing.
Since they weren't after the ransom, they had no qualms about killing hostages, so if the kidnappers noticed anything amiss, they would definitely shoot them immediately.
Just then, Su Yin suddenly felt dust falling from above. He instinctively wanted to look up to check, but immediately realized something was wrong.
Where did the dust come from?
Su Yin stood there motionless, and dust would fall every now and then. He soon discovered the pattern: it was Morse code.
It means: It's me.
Su Yin immediately thought of Gu Sheng.
Out of the robbers' sight, Su Yin tapped a single word on the floor with his finger: "You?"
The dust settled again, this time signifying, "Yes."
Su Yin was somewhat excited. He had guessed that Gu Sheng wouldn't be subdued so easily. With Gu Sheng around, their chances of successfully breaking through the encirclement were much higher.
The two communicated their discoveries cryptically using Morse code.
Gu Sheng told Su Yin that there were sixteen robbers, and he had already dealt with two of them, leaving fourteen remaining.
Su Yin told Gu Sheng that besides the three robbers in the hall, two others had gone outside to negotiate with the police, and the rest were in the next hall.
Gu Sheng did the math: after removing the two he had dealt with, the three guarding the hostages, and the two who went to negotiate, there were still nine people left in the other hall.
Gu Sheng felt he could handle the nine people directly. He told Su Yin he would go check the other side and asked Su Yin to act as the situation warranted.
Gu Sheng climbed up the ventilation duct to another hall. He saw several robbers gathered in front of a wall, and a large pit had been dug in the ground.
Gu Sheng counted the number of people and found that there were only seven people here, two of them were missing. He couldn't help but frown. This robbery organization didn't have many people and they were quite scattered. He wondered what the other two people had gone to do.
However, Gu Sheng felt that at this rate, it would take them a long time to dig up the bank. Then he saw one of the men carrying a box walk over and place the box in front of a burly man with a scarred face.
Looking at the man, Gu Sheng guessed that he must be the leader of the robbers, "Gear".
Gear opened the box and carefully took something out. Gu Sheng's pupils contracted slightly when he saw it.
It was explosives. The box was filled with more than a dozen explosives of various sizes, and the gear was the smallest one.
Then Gu Sheng saw the man sitting in front of the computer press his headphones and say, "The bomb squad has set off. They will plant twenty bombs in the theater, ten real and ten fake. That should keep the police department busy for a while."
This person must be the "clock hand" who's really good with computers.
However, Gu Sheng doesn't care about that right now; he only cares about what the clock hands are saying.
They planted a bomb in the theater?!
