Chapter 40. Following the time, Gu Sheng arrived at the end of the bookshelf…

Following the timeline, Gu Sheng went to the end of the bookshelf and read through the oldest books, one of which recorded all the ancient sacrificial rituals.

Ming Qingyuan laughed when he heard Gu Sheng's words, but for some reason Gu Sheng felt that he was laughing out of anger.

Ming Qingyuan was indeed laughing in anger. He was angry at Gu Sheng for being so smart and better than him in everything, and even angrier at himself for being so weak and inferior to Gu Sheng in everything.

Ming Qingyuan did search for the secret room for a long time, but he didn't find it. In the end, he got in by befriending an archbishop, who led him in.

However, the archbishop and the patriarch were unaware of the existence of the other five secret chambers. Ming Qingyuan did indeed find those five secret chambers himself, but he found them by following clues left in the books inside the chambers.

Gu Sheng deduced the location of the secret room based solely on a few moved sculptures, which infuriated him.

The archbishop who led Ming Qingyuan into the secret chamber wanted Ming Qingyuan to kill the patriarch and then help him ascend to the position of patriarch.

Ming Qingyuan was insane, but he wasn't without feelings. He couldn't possibly hurt his teacher, who was like a father to him. So, at the very beginning of that game, the first person he killed was the archbishop.

But none of that matters now.

Ming Qingyuan leaned back in his chair expressionlessly and asked Gu Sheng, "What do you want to tell me?"

Gu Sheng flipped his left hand over and said, "This symbol should be read like this. You didn't read it backwards, did you?"

The book recording the ritual was completely blank, filled only with abstract symbols. Gu Sheng had only glanced at it casually, thinking how perverse people were back then, having created their own script just to write a book.

However, before he could finish thinking, the meanings of those symbols appeared in his mind, and his useless knowledge increased again.

The symbols were related to ancient alchemy, but Gu Sheng didn't recognize all of them. However, he managed to read the whole book by guessing the ones he did recognize.

When Gu Sheng finished reading the book and put it back, he noticed that the book had been placed upside down when he picked it up.

The symbols in alchemy are almost all symmetrical, except for the one Gu Sheng drew on his hand. So if you don't recognize this symbol, it's normal to read the whole book backwards.

Ming Qingyuan watched Gu Sheng's actions without reacting.

Gu Sheng tilted his head slightly, about to say something, when Ming Qingyuan suddenly sprang up, his entire body pressed against the glass, making a loud "bang".

Ming Qingyuan said, word by word, "No, it's not possible."

Gu Sheng was taken aback for a moment, then said, "You really don't recognize this symbol? Then how did you understand that book?"

Like Gu Sheng, Ming Qingyuan had some knowledge of ancient alchemy and recognized some of the symbols. The archbishop also recognized some, so the two of them combined what they knew and managed to understand the book.

Neither of them recognized the symbol. Ming Qingyuan was very glad that the archbishop did not recognize the symbol, because if he had, he would never have let Ming Qingyuan see the book.

He learned about this symbol later, when he asked the Patriarch as a student. The Patriarch said that the symbol represented the Archbishop.

Then, based on that book, Ming Qingyuan learned that the funeral ceremony required the sacrifice of five archbishops.

Ming Qingyuan pursed his lips and looked at Gu Sheng without saying a word.

Gu Sheng gave a strange look and said, "You don't think this symbol means archbishop, do you?"

Ming Qingyuan looked at Gu Sheng, a look of confusion on his face for the first time, and asked, "Isn't that right?"

Gu Sheng laughed, he really couldn't help but say: "Use your brain for a moment. After the patriarch dies, a new patriarch will be chosen from among the archbishops. If the archbishop is sacrificed, where will the next patriarch come from? Moreover, the funeral rites used to be presided over by the archbishops. These rites were all decided by the archbishops. How could they possibly sacrifice themselves?"

In fact, any normal person could understand this logic, but it was the Patriarch who told Ming Qingyuan the meaning of this symbol. He was his teacher and the righteous man he believed in, and he never questioned the Patriarch's words.

Ming Qingyuan seemed to have just figured things out, and he stammered, "Then, then tell me, tell me what this means."

Gu Sheng said, "This is a symbol from ancient alchemy. In alchemy, this symbol represents the moon."

However, it was later given more meanings, such as representing an archbishop. The patriarch also has a corresponding symbol. In ancient alchemy, that symbol represents the sun. This is easy to understand: the patriarch is the sun, the archbishop is the moon, and the bishop is the star.

“Here, it means a lunar eclipse, which refers to people born during a lunar eclipse. In ancient times, people believed that people born during a lunar eclipse were the reincarnation of demons, and killing demons could lead to heaven. So, the ritual involved killing five people born during a lunar eclipse. That’s easy to understand, right?” Gu Sheng shrugged.

Furthermore: "You read the order backwards, so you are performing the ritual in reverse. According to the book, performing the ritual in reverse will attract demons to take the person performing the ritual to hell."

For the first time, fear appeared in Ming Qingyuan's eyes. He murmured, "No, I don't want to go to hell, no, I don't want to go to hell." He knelt on the ground in a prayer position, "God, please forgive me, don't abandon me."

Looking at him, Gu Sheng said, "But I don't believe in these things." However, Gu Sheng's words seemed to have no effect on Ming Qingyuan.

Gu Sheng watched as Ming Qingyuan, who was completely absorbed in his own world, called over a prison guard. The moment the guard touched Ming Qingyuan, he jumped up in fright and stared at the guard, repeatedly saying, "The devil has come for me."

Finally, with no other option, the prison guards had to use electric shocks to subdue the highly uncooperative Ming Qingyuan before they could successfully re-arrest him.

After coming out, Gu Sheng saw Zhou Mingxin, who had already learned about Ming Qingyuan's condition from the prison guards.

He asked curiously, "What did you say to him?" No matter what they said before, Ming Qingyuan showed no remorse. The Church not only wanted this sinner who had desecrated the courtyard to die, but also did not want him to die peacefully. The reason why the trial had been delayed until now was because they wanted him to repent, but unfortunately, it had little effect.

Unexpectedly, after talking with Gu Sheng for a while, he suddenly realized his mistake.

Gu Sheng asked with some curiosity, "Isn't there surveillance in the interrogation room?"

Zhou Mingxin said, "We have surveillance cameras, but we can only see the footage. We still hope to leave some privacy for the prisoners."

Gu Sheng felt this was completely unnecessary, but it was someone else's business and had nothing to do with Gu Sheng.

Since he didn't hear it, so be it. That secret room was, after all, a secret of the religion. The patriarch didn't announce it to the public, so he couldn't tell anyone else either.

Gu Sheng said, "I didn't say anything, I just reminisced with him about our school days, but I didn't expect him to suddenly go berserk."

Zhou Mingxin knew that Gu Sheng was just giving him the runaround, but since Gu Sheng didn't want to talk about it, he couldn't press him further. After all, it was Gu Sheng's privacy, and in P City, privacy was the most respected thing.

Gu Sheng did not stay in P City; he took a plane home as soon as he was released from prison.

When he reached his doorstep, Gu Sheng stopped. He looked at his house and then at the person standing in front of it.

This is indeed his house, but who are these two people?

One of them was dressed in a slovenly manner, with handcuffs on his hands and a collar around his neck with a chain attached. The chain was held in the hand of another person standing ramrod straight in a suit.

Gu Sheng doesn't discriminate against people with certain quirks, but these people can't just block his doorway.

Gu Sheng took a deep breath and prepared to step forward and drive the person away.

Upon seeing Gu Sheng, the man in the suit spoke first, before Gu Sheng could say anything: "Greetings, Mr. Gu. I am the Chi family's butler, and I have brought the young master here as instructed by the master."

The Chi family? Gu Sheng thought for a moment and remembered that the thief who stole things at the auction was named Chi Anlan.

He looked at the man next to him with a stubble-covered face and messy hair, and it took him a while to recognize him. Wasn't that Chi Anlan?

Why give him the person?

Gu Sheng frowned slightly and said, "Sorry, I don't accept junk here."

The butler continued calmly, "Master said that if Mr. Gu asks, we should say that it was Inspector Li's idea."

Li Qingyue

Gu Sheng dialed Li Qingyue's number with some skepticism. The other end seemed to have guessed his purpose and said bluntly, "Gu Sheng, please help me. Just let Chi Anlan stay at your place for a few days."

Gu Sheng raised an eyebrow: "Why is he staying at my house?"

Li Qingyue coughed lightly: "This is a long story."

Gu Sheng interrupted his long-winded explanation: "Explain yourself in one sentence, or I'll kick those two out."

Li Qingyue said, "Actually, it's quite simple. The Chi family donated a large sum of money to the Public Security Bureau and renovated all the Public Security Bureaus. Their only request is that you help take care of the children for a few days. That's not unreasonable, is it?"

Gu Sheng asked, "How did they find you?" His previous undercover identity was a secret; how did the Chi family find out?

Li Qingyue said, "It's not what you think. It's just that the neighborhood you're living in now belongs to the Chi family, and they know that this house is mine."

Gu Sheng fell silent; he had almost forgotten that he was living in someone else's house.

It must have been after that incident that the Chi family, for some reason, such as needing Gu Sheng to help take care of the child, wanted to find Gu Sheng. They then inadvertently discovered that Gu Sheng was living in Li Qingyue's house, and naturally learned of their relationship, so they went to Li Qingyue.

If that's the case, Gu Sheng thought of something and said, "Wait a moment, I'll call you back in a bit."

He hung up the phone and then called Gu Hecheng.

The call was answered quickly: "Uncle, is something the matter?"

Gu Sheng has given up on correcting Gu Hecheng's way of addressing him, although it seems there's nothing to correct anyway.

Gu Sheng asked, "Has the Chi family contacted you?"

Gu Hecheng said, "Yes, I mean I want you to help discipline the young master of the Chi family."

Gu Sheng asked, "You refused?"

Gu Hecheng: "Hmm."

After a moment of silence, Gu Hecheng asked, "Should we agree?"

Gu Sheng said, "No, please refuse next time, thank you."

Gu Hecheng: "You're welcome. It's what I should do."

After exchanging a few more words, Gu Sheng hung up the phone.

Chi Anlan and the butler remained standing there, silently watching Gu Sheng.

Gu Sheng sighed and dialed Li Qingyue's number. He felt obligated to help, since he was currently staying at Li Qingyue's house and couldn't refuse. Besides, it wasn't a big deal, just a bit of a hassle.

Gu Sheng asked, "How long will it take him?"

Li Qingyue knew that Gu Sheng had agreed, and he said, "One month."

Gu Sheng immediately replied, "Impossible."

Li Qingyue didn't insist and directly reduced it by half: "Half a month, just half a month."

Gu Sheng still replied, "Too long." He didn't want to live with a destructive brat for so long.

Li Qingyue continued to reduce the time: "Ten days, just ten days, really, I can't go any less."

Gu Sheng let out a long sigh and said, "Alright, ten days it is."

Li Qingyue's voice instantly became relaxed: "I knew my brother would help me. I'll treat you to a meal later."

Gu Sheng scoffed and said, "No need, I'm afraid I'll get a bullet in my mouth while having dinner with Inspector Li."

Li Qingyue knew Gu Sheng was in a bad mood, so he just chuckled twice and hung up the phone in a flash.

Looking at the phone, Gu Sheng wondered how he had never noticed how cunning Li Qingyue was before.
