Author's Closing Remarks (Bonus Chapter Preview)

Author's Closing Remarks, 4 AM.

Just to clarify, while the story is finished, there will be additional chapters and side stories coming up.

Then share your thoughts.

I've been a bit conflicted these past couple of days... My younger sister has caught a cold and has a fever, so she needs my care. To get fever reducers, I need to go to the hospital first to rule out the possibility of COVID-19. I also have work at the company, so overall I'm quite busy.

However, it's not because I've been busy these past few days that I'm rushing to finish the book. Actually, I started revising the outline a month ago and planned this ending.

For a romance novel, once all the girls have been chosen, it basically means the main plot is almost over... so the sudden ending isn't really that sudden. When Xue Xiaodie was chosen, the ending was already brewing.

When I first started publishing the book, I planned to write a million words, but after it was released, the initial subscription was only 1,100, and it's still only around 1,000 now, with basically no increase and no hope of it increasing. Moreover, it hasn't received a single recommendation in the three months since it was released. After a while, it's really disheartening.

To be fair, for a book that wasn't featured on the Sanjiang list, a first-day subscription of over a thousand isn't bad, is it? And for a book that didn't get a recommendation slot after being listed, if the average subscription didn't drop compared to the first-day subscription and even slightly increased, it shouldn't be too bad either, right?

But I'm really exhausted...

I believe I wrote this book with great care, trying my best to make every important character stand out. Even when deciding to finish it, I didn't waver, hoping to write an interesting ending. I feel I've done a decent job.

This creative process certainly couldn't be given a perfect score, and it's hard to say whether it even reached the passing grade. But I certainly did my best.

Thankfully I don't have to work tomorrow; I'm not sleepy at all as I write this...

Every time a novel is being serialized, I feel like, "When it's finished, I'll probably write a 10,000-word epilogue to rant about it." But it seems that every time I write an epilogue, I never know where to begin.

It's like putting down a heavy burden. You no longer need to think about the plot, you can sleep peacefully, and when you wake up it's a real weekend. You don't need to think about writing anymore, and you won't have the feeling of having to work overtime on the weekend.

Of course, I will definitely continue to write books after a while; there's no stopping me. I was writing before coming to Qidian, and I've already written over two million words since then. Moreover, while updating on Qidian, I've also written some other things... Maybe I'm just destined to be a workaholic, or maybe I brought it on myself (laughs).

My daughter had a bad cough tonight, but she's asleep now. I'm afraid to turn on the air conditioner; it makes her cough worse. Maybe the air conditioner needs cleaning, or maybe the hot air it blows out is too dry? I don't know. I just filled her hot water bottle; she should be fine... Oh right, I still have to wash the dishes.

I like to play some music while I'm writing; for example, I'm currently on a post-rock playlist. But I have to keep the volume down so I don't wake the girl in the next bedroom. People with colds need to sleep more. But I don't want to wear headphones because my ears can't handle long writing sessions. This post-rock playlist has been on repeat for the third time since I started writing chapter 223.

Look, this is the life of an ordinary married man—very mundane and boring. The plot of the story is actually a condensation of the essence of life. It's precisely because the mundane daily life lacks this essence that we yearn for good stories.

Summarizing the lessons learned, I haven't decided what to write for my next book yet. I have quite a few ideas in my portfolio, but right now I'm feeling exhausted and my creative enthusiasm is overriding it, so I'll take a break for now.

4:50 a.m.

Suddenly I feel like saying a few more words.

This book currently has over 50,000 favorites and an average subscription of over 1,000 per person. I subscribed to all of them using my own account, without giving any tips, and my ranking on the fan leaderboard is in the 100s.

I don't know how many of you are reading pirated versions. If you've read this far and don't think it's too bad, I hope you'll subscribe on Qidian. Subscribing to a few chapters will give me more motivation to write the side stories. The price here seems to be 3 to 5 cents per thousand words; 100,000 words would only cost the price of a bottle of water, which you can drink much faster than you read.

For those who really don't have money, even a recommendation vote would be appreciated, thank you.

What should I write for the extra chapter...? Never mind, I'll go wash the dishes first, then take a shower and go to bed. I just want to rest now.

If you'd like to see any side stories or characters, please let me know in the chapter comments or the comment section. You can write anything until I submit this request to the editor.

Of course, there's nothing we can do about things that are too outrageous, like "The True Story of Tang Zong Hunting Handsome Men," "A Travelogue of Chen Le You Kabukicho," or "The Speeding Manual of Luoqiu Group." We can't write or publish those kinds of things.

It was past 5 a.m., and the playlist was finished again.

Goodnight everyone... or perhaps I should say good morning.
