Chapter 108 Fasten your seatbelt

I need to check your project progress today, so please stay tonight. Overtime pay is provided as usual.

In the fast food restaurant, Lu Zhe looked at the new message and couldn't help but sigh.

He said, "I have to work overtime tonight."

Xue Xiaodie: "Have you been working very hard lately?"

Lu Zhe thought for a moment and shook his head: "Actually, it's not that heavy, and there's even time to slack off. But if the boss wants to check the project progress, then there's nothing I can do."

Xue Xiaodie frowned slightly: "Did President Xia make you work overtime?"

Lu Zhe nodded: "Yes."

Tang Qi, who was standing next to her, blurted out, "I'll work overtime with you!"

Lu Zhe: "There is an empty seat next to me, but... are you sure?"

However, Tang Qi regretted it almost as soon as she said it. Hearing the words "Are you sure?" made her want to back down even more.

The young lady hesitated, "I'm not sure... If I work overtime with you, will I see President Xia?"

Lu Zhe: "Of course."

Tang Qi said weakly, "Let's forget about it."

Xue Xiaodie leaned close to her ear and whispered, "I thought you'd finally figured it out... President Xia wants him to stay and work overtime, which is a bit dangerous. You should keep an eye on things."

Tang Qi also lowered her voice: "We've already discussed this, the matter of resisting foreign enemies is entrusted to you!"

Xue Xiaodie: "But I'm not an employee of your company, so I have no reason to go there."

Tang Qi: "Neither am I."

Xue Xiaodie: "Part-time employees are still employees. You can just make up any excuse to go in at night. But I can't; it's not convenient for me to go in. Besides, why are you afraid? We're not stealing or robbing, so why are you afraid to see her?"

No stealing, no robbing...

Upon hearing this, Tang Qi felt inexplicably embarrassed and angry: "Is it wrong for me to be timid?"

Lu Zhe couldn't hear the whispers between the two girls, but he could see that Tang Qi was blushing and her eyes were filled with panic. He didn't know which sentence had touched a nerve.

However, precisely because they were whispering to each other, with their mouths close to each other's ears, Xue Xiaodie naturally couldn't see Tang Qi's flustered and awkward expression.

Lu Zhe watched silently, with a vague premonition that tonight's situation might be more complicated than he had anticipated.

In the afternoon, Lu Zhe returned to his office. Just as he was about to rouse himself and focus on his work, he discovered something quite frustrating.

My computer crashed with a blue screen again, and restarting it twice didn't work.

Having been with the company for so long, he's gotten to know some of his colleagues, especially those he's likely to interact with. So now he knows who he should contact.

After walking through half of the office, Lu Zhe arrived at the company's operations and maintenance department, next to Su Heng's workstation.

Lu Zhe said with a smile, "Brother Su, my computer is broken, could you take a look at it for me?"

Su Heng glanced at him and asked, "What is the error message?"

Upon hearing this question, Lu Zhe was taken aback.

Since I had no prior computer experience, when my computer crashed or displayed a blue screen, my natural instinct was to restart it. If that didn't work, I'd call someone to fix it. After all, professionals should handle professional tasks; he wasn't a computer professional, so why waste his energy?

But now...

“I heard you’re learning programming,” Su Heng continued, “Now that you’ve started, haven’t you even looked at the error messages?”

Lu Zhe paused for a moment and said, "It's working time now, and the most important thing is to complete the work tasks. So I think it would be much more efficient to just ask you, Brother Su, to do it."

There's another layer of meaning to this statement: you're an operations and maintenance engineer, it's your work time, and helping to solve computer problems is your job.

Su Heng finally stood up: "Alright then, I'll go take a look."

Lu Zhe led Su Heng to his workstation. At the same time, he was also considering a problem.

It seems like I'm not very popular at work...

Lu Zhe looked around and realized that apart from his direct supervisor Mao Kai, there weren't many colleagues he could really talk to. Although he could chat with Fu Hanchen for a bit, he always seemed a little resentful and would occasionally make sarcastic remarks.

However, while you can't talk to colleagues at the same or higher level, it's a different story with the big boss who is two or more levels above you.

Thinking of this, Lu Zhe subconsciously glanced towards the president's office. Just then, Xia Xiaobing came out from inside.

She glanced this way, then walked over and asked, "What's wrong?"

Operations engineer Su Heng immediately replied, "It's a minor issue, we'll fix it slightly..."

Before he could finish speaking, Xia Xiaobing interrupted, "What are the specs of this computer?"

Su Heng was taken aback: "Configuration?"

Xia Xiaobing: "Yes, hardware configuration."

"It's just a normal configuration..." Su Heng stammered a little, "Look at the monitor, it's a three-star display, it's all very good..."

Xia Xiaobing glanced at it expressionlessly and said, "You fix the blue screen first, then let me take a look at the configuration inside the computer case."

So Su Heng stopped talking and just kept his head down, fiddling with the computer.

Sure enough, the blue screen problem was resolved shortly afterward. However, it took almost another minute for the computer to restart.

Xia Xiaobing suddenly asked, "Why is it starting up so slowly?"

Su Heng broke out in a cold sweat.

Lu Zhe, on the other hand, tried to smooth things over: "It's okay, it can still be used anyway, it won't affect the work."

Xia Xiaobing snatched the mouse, opened the system, and saw the hardware configuration of the machine.

She frowned: "Does our company still have such old stuff?"

Su Heng scratched his face and whispered, "We can save up those batches that were supposed to be phased out and assemble a few more machines."

Xia Xiaobing: "Are you from Tualatin?"

Su Heng: "Uh..."

Xia Xiaobing shook her head: "I already approved the hardware configuration costs, there's no need to skimp on this. Everyone's work time is valuable, we don't have time to wait for the computer to respond for ages, understand?"

Su Heng lowered his head and honestly replied, "Understood, President Xia."

Xia Xiaobing: "Okay, build him a new one with the same specs as your old machine. I won't go into the details, but his computer can't be unreliable when we're doing testing projects, understand?"

"Understood, Mr. Xia."

Su Heng repeated it, his tone becoming even more solemn and serious.

Xia Xiaobing nodded and turned to walk away.

After the boss walked away, Su Heng turned to look at Lu Zhe and suddenly laughed, "You've really hit the jackpot. I'll build you a new one. This time, you can not only do tests and stuff, but you can even play the 2077!"

Lu Zhe: "No need, I won't be playing games in the office..."

Su Heng: "What are you talking about? Don't you work overtime?"

Lu Zhe: "We should add more tonight."

"That settles it! Playing a game while working overtime is perfectly normal, isn't it?"

As he said this, Su Heng lowered his voice and put his arm around Lu Zhe's shoulder, instantly closing the distance between them.
