Chapter 34 Nights of Missing You

Another night of gaming.

Tang Qi's house is never short of games, from PS5 and Xbox to Switch, as well as a huge game library, which gives Tang Qi and Lu Zhe a wide range of choices.

Lu Zhe had mostly played PC single-player games before, and hadn't experienced many big titles on consoles, especially those exclusive to certain console platforms. So, even though he had been playing games for several days in a row, he didn't feel bored.

Around midnight, Lu Zhe finally put down the controller and went back to his bedroom to sleep.

Tang Qi still wanted to play with him, but thinking that she had to go to work the next morning, she could only pout and give up, and went back to her room to watch a movie.

After washing up, Lu Zhe lay down on the bed and couldn't help but sigh: "I can't have insomnia tonight... If this continues, I'm afraid I'll die suddenly."

He decided that tonight he would calm his mind, abandon worldly desires, and drift into sleep like an old monk in deep meditation.

However, not long after I closed my eyes, my phone rang with a WeChat call.

He picked up his phone and saw that it was Xue Xiaodie, and it was a video call.

I just decided to enter into meditation, and now this little fox with glasses has appeared?

After a moment's hesitation, urged on by the bell, the old monk finally jumped out of the Buddhist temple.

Lu Zhe answered the video call.

Xue Xiaodie's delicate face appeared on the screen. However, to his slight surprise, unlike before, Xue Xiaodie wasn't wearing glasses this time.

Without her glasses, she looks less demure but more adorable.

On the screen, Xue Xiaodie said softly, "I have trouble sleeping. How about you?"

Lu Zhe: "..."

At this moment, he was lying in bed, holding his phone. A lamp in dim light was on in the room, allowing the camera to capture his face. Xue Xiaodie, opposite him, was in the same situation, only her side was slightly brighter, making her beautiful and youthful features clearer on the screen.

"I noticed when you were moving your luggage earlier, you seemed to have dark circles under your eyes..." Xue Xiaodie suddenly asked again, "Do you have insomnia, or do you usually go to bed this late?"

Lu Zhe: "Both sides, I suppose."

Xue Xiaodie: "I'm having trouble sleeping right now, and I usually go to bed late."

Lu Zhe nodded.

Xue Xiaodie smiled and said, "You're a bit like me... Let's chat then, maybe we'll fall asleep while we're talking?"

Lu Zhe frowned in disbelief: "Won't we get more and more excited as we talk?"

Xue Xiaodie: "Probably not. Anyway, let's avoid those kinds of provocative topics."

What kinds of topics are considered provocative?

Lu Zhe thought for a moment and said, "Then let's not talk about sports and games. How about we talk about math?"

Xue Xiaodie was taken aback: "Mathematics?"

Lu Zhe: "For example, matrix operations and such."

The girl's face immediately turned ashen, her lips pursed: "No way! Do you know why I'd rather be unemployed than be an accountant? It's so boring!"

Lu Zhe: "It's alright, you won't lose your job, since you can still draw. By the way, what's your internship like now?"

Xue Xiaodie thought for a moment and replied, "It's not bad. My main responsibility is coloring the comics. Since most platforms now require comics to be in color, coloring is quite important. Although I'm just an intern, my coloring skills are better than many of my seniors..."

For the next half hour, Xue Xiaodie gave Lu Zhe a thorough explanation of the comic book production process.

From the initial script to storyboarding, sketching, outlining, and finally coloring, Xue Xiaodie explained the entire process in detail. She was especially responsible for the coloring stage, which is almost the last step before the final comic is completed, and it required a great deal of attention to detail.

"...So although I can draw illustrations, character designs, and original artwork, the requirements are still somewhat different from those for coloring. However, the production quality of colored webcomics in China is really not very high. The project team I'm in requires two updates a week, which is a very rushed job, and some of the proportions of the images are not quite right. But many comic book readers don't really care; they just want something to read. Lu Zhe, you don't usually read comics, do you?"

At this point, Xue Xiaodie stopped.

However, Lu Zhe did not give any response.

Xue Xiaodie looked closely at the handsome face on the screen and realized that Lu Zhe had already fallen asleep with his eyes closed.

Of course, before that, he had changed from lying on his back to lying on his side, with his phone standing upright next to his pillow. This way, even though he was asleep, the phone wouldn't fall and would remain upright, allowing Xue Xiaodie to see him.

The girl stopped talking and just quietly looked at the guy's sleeping face.

I watched like that for quite a while.

Then Xue Xiaodie hung up the video call.

After hanging up, she put down her phone and turned off the desk lamp.

In the darkness, the melody of a pop song floated through the girl's mind, and she unconsciously hummed it:

On nights when I miss you, I wish you were by my side.

I wonder if you can still change for me...

On nights I miss you... please let me love you one more time.

Let love return to its origin...

After singing half a song, she gradually became sleepy. Perhaps she was already too sleepy to fall asleep, but the opportunity to chat with Lu Zhe made her slightly excited and keep her awake?

Xue Xiaodie stopped thinking about it, gently closed her eyes, and gradually drifted off to sleep.

————

It was past 2 a.m. that night, and Xia Xiaobing was still awake.

As the company's boss, she undoubtedly has the most flexible working hours. Right now, she's sitting in front of her laptop, reviewing the project to be discussed the next morning, weighing the persuasiveness of this ambitious proposal. On the other hand, while other employees are busy working, she can catch up on sleep in her private office, with no one daring to disturb her.

In other words, if we only consider the time spent sleeping in bed at night, it might be less than five or six hours. But if we include the rest time throughout the day, it's much more than that.

"Alright, it's about time to sleep..." Xia Xiaobing closed the files on her computer. "The crucial event is coming up, I have to perform well."

After closing the file, the computer desktop was revealed. Her desktop wallpaper was a photo of Lu Zhe.
