Chapter 53 Xue Xiaodie's Awakening

When Lu Zhe opened the back door, he felt as if both of their eyes were fixed on him. Turning around, he saw that Tang Qi had already moved closer to him, seemingly preparing to get into the car as well.

Then he looked at Xue Xiaodie. The bespectacled girl had her hands behind her back, looking both obedient and pitiful.

He realized that if he got on the bus like this, Tang Qi would definitely take the seat next to him, and then what about Xue Xiaodie?

Lu Zhe hesitated for a moment, then suddenly had a brilliant idea. He stepped aside to make room for the car door. Just like a butler opening a car door in a movie, he bowed slightly and gestured for them to enter.

"Ladies, please get in the car," Lu Zhe said with a smile.

Tang Qi subconsciously patted his arm and said with a grin, "Not bad, not bad, your professionalism is very high!"

Then, just as Miss Tang got into the car, Xue Xiaodie also came over.

The girl pursed her cherry lips and glanced at his arm—the very spot Tang Qi had photographed two seconds earlier.

"Thanks."

Xue Xiaodie's voice was still so gentle and obedient.

Lu Zhe: "I should be the one saying thank you. Thank you all for saving the day."

“We’re friends, it’s only right.” Xue Xiaodie smiled, got into the car, and sat next to Tang Qi.

Tang Qi also said, "That's right, if my dad continues to cause you trouble, we definitely won't stand idly by!"

Lu Zhe: "Then I'll say thank you again in advance."

Seeing that the two girls seemed to be getting along quite well, he felt a little relieved and closed the back door of the car.

Then, he opened the front passenger door and got in.

————

The three people got off the bus on the roadside next to the apartment building.

Night had fallen, but the streetlights provided ample illumination, and the nearby brown sugar market was brightly lit, making even the subtle expressions on the three people's faces clearly visible.

Lu Zhe pointed to the shopping mall not far away: "We haven't had dinner yet, let's go there and get something to eat?"

Xue Xiaodie hummed in agreement.

Tang Qi hesitated for a moment—her financial situation was different now than before. If she casually treated everyone, she might not be able to afford two months' salary for Assistant Lu. But among the three, her family was the wealthiest, and today's trouble was caused by her own father. It seemed a bit unreasonable not to treat everyone.

Fortunately, the young lady quickly came up with a solution.

“There’s a pretty good restaurant in this mall. Shall I take you there?” Tang Qi said.

Lu Zhe and Xue Xiaodie exchanged a glance and nodded in tacit agreement.

So Tang Qi took them into the mall, took the elevator upstairs, and arrived at the restaurant—her father had topped up her membership card there, and the credit on the card was enough to eat for a long time, so it was the best choice to use it to treat guests.

But Lu Zhe and Xue Xiaodie were somewhat wistful.

Xue Xiaodie looked around and blurted out, "This restaurant is so high-class, no wonder it belongs to a young lady."

Lu Zhe's question was simple: "Is Miss treating?"

Tang Qi patted her chest: "Of course it's my treat! Order whatever you like, it's fine."

Led by the waiter, the three of them arrived at a table by the window, but then a similar problem arose as when they got on the bus: how to arrange their seats.

The table is rectangular with two seats on each side, seating four people. But there are three people there now, and it seems both girls want to sit next to Lu Zhe.

Lu Zhe, quite adept at it, said, "Why don't you two girls sit together?"

He sat on the other side, opposite the two girls, so there was no problem. Otherwise, it would have felt a little awkward no matter which girl he sat next to.

Tang Qi glanced at the girl beside her, then hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but couldn't.

Xue Xiaodie readily agreed, "Okay."

————

Lu Zhe felt the atmosphere at dinner tonight was a bit awkward.

Perhaps because there was someone they weren't very familiar with present, Tang Qi wasn't as lively as when the two of them were alone, and Xue Xiaodie was also quieter than when they were alone. As a result, most of the time, it was Lu Zhe who started and maintained the conversation.

Both girls are more introverted than usual...

And for some reason, Lu Zhe noticed that when he talked about how rich Boss Tang was and how well-off Miss Tang Qi's family was, a hint of embarrassment flashed in Miss Tang's eyes. Seeing this, Lu Zhe could only change the subject and try to avoid talking about money.

After dinner, Tang Qi gave the waiter her phone number and asked them to deduct the cost of the meal.

Then, the three of them walked out of the restaurant and headed out of the mall, preparing to say goodbye to each other.

“My apartment is right next door, what about yours?” Tang Qi asked.

Lu Zhe: "The place I rented was also like that."

Xue Xiaodie: "Yes, it's not far from here."

Tang Qi frowned, sensing that things seemed a bit complicated.

The young lady couldn't help but ask, "You two don't live together, do you?"

Lu Zhe was stunned for a moment.

Just as he was hesitating about whether to tell the truth, the girl next to him answered for him.

Xue Xiaodie smiled and said, "How could that be? He and I, of course, rent our own places. It's just that the places we live in are probably close to here."

Tang Qi breathed a silent sigh of relief.

Lu Zhe's heartbeat also calmed down.

As they spoke, the three of them had already walked out of the mall, and the entrance to Tang Qi's apartment building was right there in front of them.

"I'm going upstairs now. Are you all... going home now?" the young lady asked, standing there with a hint of melancholy.
