Chapter 56 She's Paying Close Attention to You

The next morning, Lu Zhe returned to his office and had just sat down at his workstation when the company's HR came over.

The HR person was a woman who looked to be in her thirties or forties. Everyone usually called her "Sister Yang," and Lu Zhe was no exception. However, before Lu Zhe could even speak, Sister Yang placed a piece of paper on his desk.

"The company needs to collect everyone's addresses, and everyone has to write them down. I know it's already written in your contract, but it's just routine, so please write it down again."

As Lu Zhe looked for a pen, he asked, "Why do we suddenly have to fill this out?"

Sister Yang smiled and said, "Because the company is going to arrange a new benefit for employees who work overtime, we can charter a bus to take everyone home after get off work."

Lu Zhe: "But I don't work overtime much. And I live very close by, so I don't need to take a car..."

Sister Yang was a little surprised: "Don't you need to take a car? I saw that the address you wrote on the contract is not close to the company."

Lu Zhe explained, "I recently moved to a place near the company."

Sister Yang handed me a pen: "Then you should definitely write this down. The company might give out gifts during holidays, so they must know your address to send them to you."

Seeing this, Lu Zhe took the pen and wrote his address on the paper. But as he wrote, he was thinking about something.

If the company wants to give gifts, wouldn't it be better to just hand them out to employees in the office? Why go through all the trouble of sending them to their homes?

Then he thought of the company's boss, the beautiful and unique Ms. Xia. He wondered if the holiday gifts and shuttle bus perks were Ms. Xia's idea. What kind of gifts would she arrange for her employees?

After filling in their address, the HR person went to the next colleague's workstation.

Lu Zhe stood up and walked towards the restroom. As he passed the CEO's office, he glanced inside.

Mr. Xia, dressed in sportswear, was jogging slowly on a treadmill. On the wall opposite the treadmill, a white screen was hanging, displaying a projector. The content of the projected content was like gibberish, completely incomprehensible to Lu Zhe.

Moreover, compared to the projected image on the screen, the mature woman on the treadmill undoubtedly attracted his attention more. Especially those long, slender, and athletic legs beneath her shorts—they were simply…

Suddenly, Xia Xiaobing turned her head and met his gaze.

Lu Zhe suddenly realized that he had stopped walking without even noticing.

This is a bit awkward...

However, at that moment, Xia Xiaobing smiled, waved to him, and gestured for him to come in.

Lu Zhe paused for a moment, then pointed to his chest.

Xia Xiaobing nodded.

Lu Zhe swallowed hard, glanced around to make sure no one was watching him, and then pushed the door open and entered.

The treadmill stopped very quickly.

Xia Xiaobing stepped off the treadmill and pointed to the sofa next to her: "What are you standing there for? Sit down."

Lu Zhe sat on the sofa, feeling completely bewildered. He couldn't understand why his boss had suddenly called him in... He had only peeked at the scene; was there really a need for such a harsh criticism?

Xia Xiaobing walked to the office, picked up her water glass, took a sip, then looked at him and asked, "How have you been lately?"

Lu Zhe: "It's alright, things are going quite smoothly at work so far."

Xia Xiaobing: "What about the self-taught part? Can you figure out programming algorithms and stuff all by yourself?"

Regardless of whether you can truly understand it or not, how could you possibly show weakness in front of your boss at a time like this?

Lu Zhe replied decisively, "There are basically no major problems, don't worry, I've been working hard to learn."

Xia Xiaobing leaned on the table beside her and suddenly smiled, but for some reason, there seemed to be a hint of helplessness in that smile.

Just then, there was a knock on the door of the president's office.

Mao Kai peeked in, glanced at Lu Zhe, and couldn't help but show a surprised expression. He obviously didn't expect this kid to be in the boss's office.

Xia Xiaobing crossed her arms and looked at Mao Kai, asking in a calm tone, "What's wrong?"

Mao Kai: "It's the project I was working on. The client's technical director said they needed a more comprehensive algorithm demonstration..."

Xia Xiaobing pointed to the curtain behind her: "I'll send you this later."

"Huh?" Mao Kai was taken aback. "I just asked the algorithm department, and they said they haven't finished it yet."

Xia Xiaobing: "I did something similar when I was in graduate school, so I just made a few minor modifications. And I've already finished making the modifications."

Mao Kai glanced at the treadmill screen, which was still lit up, and asked blankly, "Did you modify it while you were running just now?"

Xia Xiaobing walked around the desk to the computer, and while operating it, said, "Yes, this saves time. I've already sent you the file. Take it to the algorithm department later and ask them. Once they're sure there are no problems, send it to the client. Any other questions?"

Mao Kai slowly shook his head: "No, no problem."

Xia Xiaobing: "Then go ahead and get busy. Lu Zhe, you should continue working too."

"Understood." Lu Zhe stood up and followed his superior, Mao Kai, out of the boss's office.

As soon as he came out, Lu Zhe noticed a gaze fixed on him from a short distance away. But when he looked over, the other person immediately looked away—it was Fu Hanchen, a colleague from the same department.

"President Xia is paying close attention to you," Mao Kai said in a low voice.

Lu Zhe smiled as calmly as possible: "It's alright. I was just passing by when she called me in. She probably wasn't paying much attention to me; she was just asking casually..."

The two walked towards their workstations.

In the president's office they had just left, Xia Xiaobing leaned against the desk and sighed softly.

The glass wall separating this office from the common work area was frosted, so she could only see the blurry figures of the two people. But she still stared at them unconsciously, her gaze following Lu Zhe's movements.

"There are too many people in the company, it's inconvenient..."

In the blink of an eye, both subordinates disappeared.

Xia Xiaobing sat back down in front of the computer, grabbed the mouse, and was about to click on a shortcut in the lower right corner of the desktop when she suddenly stopped.

By simply clicking this icon, she could see the live video feed from the company's internal security cameras. At this point, Lu Zhe would surely be back at his workstation, so she only needed to select that familiar camera angle to see…

But what's the point?

"Intelligent people don't value answers given to them by others; they only care about the answers they discover themselves. Getting them to take the initiative is the most effective approach. I can't panic; I need to stay calm..."

Xia Xiaobing reminded herself of this, controlling her hand that was about to open the surveillance video, and forcing herself to get back into her work.

However, she hadn't even been working for two minutes when she came up with another idea—in order to maintain her attraction to him, she would need to spend enough time together. So, how could she increase the amount of time they spent together?

"Why don't we just find a few days when most people don't work overtime and have him work overtime with me?"
