Chapter 208 The Finale

Upon hearing the voice, the officials trembled reflexively and looked up in disbelief.

Immediately, everyone was startled and knelt down respectfully to pay their respects, saying, "Greetings, Your Majesty!"

"Hmph, Wan An, I'm not at all at ease!"

"You bunch of good-for-nothings, how dare you bully my precious granddaughter and grandson-in-law?"

As soon as Huang Lao entered, he exchanged a knowing glance with the Emperor on the high platform, and then winked at the stunned Zhihua and the other two, as if to say that everything was up to him!

He then stepped forward, both excited and furious, and precisely poked the head of the official who had made the earlier suggestion.

This terrified the officials, who were also bewildered and suspected that the retired emperor had been secretly watching them for a long time.

Otherwise, how could they have found them so accurately?

Upon realizing this, they suddenly felt as if they had fallen into a trap, and a chill ran down their spines, since many of them knew about the things the retired emperor had done in the past.

He was truly a man of his word; if he said he would kill someone, he would do it without hesitation!

The officials were all stunned. They rubbed their heads, which had been smacked, and looked at each other. Then, one of them cautiously stepped forward and bowed respectfully. "The Emperor Emeritus has wronged us. How could we dare to bully the princess?"

"Hmph, you don't dare! I saw it all! You almost made my precious granddaughter Yinyin cry!"

Old Huang tenderly cradled Zhiyin's head, pointed at her round, watery eyes, and said without blinking.

When Zhiyin saw Huang Lao, she was stunned. Knowing that someone was backing her up, her eyes instantly welled up with tears. She was very moved.

Seeing the officials standing like quails, not daring to utter a single word, he couldn't help but laugh inwardly.

This is what they call "evil people will be punished by evil people"! They deserve it! Who told them to use their power to oppress others?

Oh!

But hey, Old Huang isn't a bad guy, he's clearly a savior! What a perfect timing!

At the same time, I was inwardly exclaiming how awesome he was! I couldn't help but be shocked; it turns out Old Huang really was an emperor emeritus!

She was right all along!

Hahaha, now that the Emperor Emeritus is backing her up, she has nothing to fear!

"Her? They are the Emperor Emeritus's granddaughters?"

The officials pointed at Zhiyin and Zhi, utterly shocked and incredulous. Facing Huang Lao's murderous gaze, they could only look to the emperor for help, hoping he could speak on their behalf.

But the emperor didn't respond at all, instead silently turning his head to the side, feeling quite pleased with himself!

Serves them right! A bunch of shameless bastards, they couldn't even get a marriage proposal, so they tried to forcibly take someone's property. They're utterly shameless.

If it weren't for his father wanting to test Xing Luxi's sincerity towards his soulmate, he wouldn't have wanted to play along with them.

Boring!

What a pathetic and incompetent emperor it must be to try to rob a little girl of her money!

Anyway, he isn't!

"Which princess are they? We've never seen them before."

Could she have been born into poverty? Or is she an illegitimate child?

The officials who had just participated felt as if the sky had fallen, and countless curses rose in their minds as they frantically entertained their wild thoughts.

Thinking of their aggressive and menacing attitude towards Zhiyin and the other two, I felt that I was doomed and would definitely be retaliated against in the future.

“Why not? She’s my goddaughter, how can she not be a princess?”

Old Huang gave a disdainful snort, then turned to Zhiyin and Zhihua with a beaming smile, raising an eyebrow at them, "Oh, my dear granddaughters, aren't you going to call me grandpa?"

"And your father too!"

He blinked rapidly at the two of them, his words carrying a strong implication.

Zhiyin and Zhihua understood instantly and quickly reacted. Tears streamed down their faces as they ran forward at lightning speed, each grabbing one of the emperor's legs, their eyes blurry with tears, and said, "Father, waaaah~ We've finally found you!!"

"You made us search so hard!!"

The two of them secretly wiped their tears onto the emperor's sleeves, their noses running and their eyes brimming with tears.

His Majesty's lips twitched violently. How did he suddenly gain two daughters out of nowhere?

And... they're both vengeful!

Seeing that the two of them thought he hadn't noticed and were wiping their tears on his clothes, he couldn't help but shake his head helplessly.

Then, with a dangerous yet smiling look in his eyes, he helped them up, gritting his teeth slightly, "Hmm? That's going too far!"

Hehe~~

Zhiyin and Zhihua chuckled twice and stood up.

And just like that, a very big crisis was averted.

Of course, some imperial concubines or princes in the palace might have suspected them of vying for the throne, which could have affected Zhihua's career.

Zhiyin immediately waved his hand, pledging his loyalty to the emperor and promising to donate a sum of money to the national treasury every month thereafter.

It's essentially like paying protection money, which she can accept.

After all, the current emperor is a good person who cares for his people and his children. Anyway, all this money will eventually be used for the benefit of the people, so it's not a loss!

"Waaaaah, my dear granddaughter, you're so good to me! Grandpa is so happy. You're so sensible. But this is money you earned yourself. There's no need to give it away. Who dares to object? I'll kill them."

Old Huang was so moved that his eyes welled up with tears. After he finished speaking, he looked at the officials with a death stare, as if asking if anyone had any objections.

Under his tyrannical power, the officials reflexively shook their heads repeatedly.

Zhiyin winked playfully, "Oh dear, this is what I should do. Of course, a daughter should be filial to her father!"

"Hehe, my dear granddaughter Yinyin, actually... um..."

Looking into Zhiyin's trusting eyes, Old Huang rubbed his hands, unsure of what to say. Although he meant well for her, he still felt a little sorry for her.
