Chapter 2 Photos

The wind at night was cooler than usual.

Jian Huaiyi was taken away by Luo Jun to treat his injuries, and the well-trained bodyguards also quickly and silently withdrew. The fireworks were over, leaving no trace in the dark sky.

Luo Zhi rested for a while and slowly sat up straight.

He couldn't sit still at once, so he put his hands on the ground to support himself again and leaned his shoulders back against the car body.

Luo Zhi took out his cell phone from his pocket, turned on the screen, and started a new game.

This time he didn't perform very well. He crashed into the subway three times before he could run a few hundred meters. After finally doing a front flip onto the roof of the car, a billboard GAME OVER came towards him, and colorful paint was scattered all over the floor.

Luo Zhi didn't care much about it.

He exited the game interface, but his eyes were still on the screen, waiting patiently for the blurred vision that had been rotated and dislocated to slowly return to normal.

The messy hair on his forehead was lifted by the night wind, revealing his pale brows and eyelashes soaked with cold sweat.

Luo Zhi closed his eyes and sat motionless against the car body. Cold sweat ran down his face and stung the glaring red and swollen wound at the corner of his lips.

After a few minutes, Luo Zhi finally breathed a sigh of relief.

He raised his hand and rubbed his left ear twice, but there was still a noisy sound like a cicada.

It wasn’t because of the slap from Luo Jun.

Luo Zhi was accidentally injured when she was a child. Because she did not receive timely treatment, the damage to her ear became so serious that she was almost deaf.

Even though his hearing recovered later, his left ear was still less than half of the normal person's. He would occasionally suffer from tinnitus, which was so loud that he couldn't hear anything.

Luo Zhi put down his hand. He waited for the severe dizziness caused by the tinnitus to pass, then stood up by supporting himself on the ground.

This feeling is not pleasant. Once the dizziness strikes, the feeling of being both heavy and shaky, and yet light and dizzy, is simply excruciating.

Luo Zhi bent his knuckles and pressed them hard against his temples.

The shirt was hidden under his windbreaker, wrapping him in damp and cold air, allowing the cold wind to penetrate through the collar.

Luo Zhi seemed to be drenched in cold sweat. He lowered his head and held the car to steady himself. He imagined what he looked like now and couldn't help but chuckled.

With this look, the way his brother looks at him is very appropriate.

Completely abandoned by the tree trunks and thrown down, they were swept by the wind, rolled in the mud, and endured a few rains. Finally, they were soaked and crowded on the sidewalk, stepped on by people, waiting to be swept away into a pile of miserable fallen leaves.

This thought would occasionally come to mind when the dizziness attacked, but when the symptoms passed and the person recovered, Luo Zhi always felt that it was a bit exaggerated.

Not really.

He felt that at least he shouldn't be that bad.

Even if this leaf is thrown away, you can pick it up and use it as a bookmark or sticker. Even if you open a page of a notebook and put it in it, it can make it look less desolate.

If only one person was willing to pick it up, it wouldn't be mixed in with the unwanted garbage and thrown into the incinerator.

Luo Zhi took off his dirty windbreaker, crumpled it up and threw it into the back seat. The wet shirt was so cold that he coughed twice.

Luo Zhi lit another cigarette, holding it in his mouth and looking up. In the slowly dissipating smoke, he opened his eyes and saw the sky full of twinkling cold stars.

Luo Zhi admired her birthday present for a while.

Only when he was almost frozen did he return to the car, turn on the air conditioner, and lie down with the seat flat.

Luo Zhi rested her head on her arms and pulled a thin blanket over herself.

He lay quietly for a few minutes, raised his eyes and blew gently, then moved his fingers and turned off the ceiling light in the car.

When I woke up again, it was already noon the next day.

Luo Zhi was tormented by dizziness for half the night. She finally broke free from the long and chaotic dream. When she opened her eyes, she felt as if she was in another world.

He thought for a long time but still couldn't remember whether he was so sleepy that he fell asleep last night or accidentally fainted.

But the difference is not that big.

Luo Zhi did not get up immediately and remained lying on his back.

He fumbled in the small storage box next to the driver's seat, found a chocolate, opened the wrapper and put it in his mouth.

The mellow and slightly bitter chocolate melts on the tip of your tongue.

Luo Zhi closed her eyes, waiting for the aftertaste to completely dissipate in her mouth.

After confirming that her blood sugar level had risen to a certain level, Luo Zhi began to adjust the chair, raising the backrest little by little.

Last night he and Jian Huaiyi had a fight in the car, or rather, he beat Jian Huaiyi unilaterally.

It seemed that the modified seat could not withstand the abuse of the fight. The last click came undone, pushing him to sit upright.

Luo Zhi’s face suddenly turned pale and he closed his eyes hastily.

The second before he closed his eyes, his vision suddenly spun at high speed without any warning.

Luo Zhi lost his balance and fell onto the steering wheel. He only had time to bend his arms to protect half of his face before he had no strength to move. The sharp tinnitus penetrated his brain and persisted, almost like a power drill piercing his temple.

After a full five minutes, Luo Zhi finally recovered from this unexpected disaster and fumbled to raise his hand to lower the car window.

The fresh air from outside the window poured into the car, making him feel much more energetic and refreshing both physically and mentally.

Luo Zhi sighed comfortably and wiped the cold sweat from his forehead on his sleeve.

He didn’t know if it was his illusion, but the tinnitus and vertigo seemed to be occurring more and more frequently recently.

Luo Zhi drove out last night and originally wanted to have a physical check-up, but was stopped by Jian Huaiyi on the way out, who said he had something to say to him.

He didn't have time to go to the hospital until the farce was over.

Let's go again next time when we have time.

Luo Zhi readjusted his seat, reached for his cell phone, turned on the screen and flipped through it.

A whole night and half a day passed, and there were no missed calls on his phone, only one text message.

The game official who registered with his real name wished him a happy birthday and warmly persuaded him to recharge an 888 gift package in order to get a mysterious gift.

Luo Zhi hadn't received any gifts in some years. He studied the text message for a while and even felt a tiny bit of emotion for a second.

He hesitated for a while on the payment page, but finally sighed, gave up and quit.

Now is not the time to spend money recklessly.

Luo Zhi owns a listed film and television company, which has recently been targeted by several rivals. The stock price has declined somewhat, and it is unknown whether he will have to invest money to buy resources at any time.

Although 888 yuan is a drop in the bucket, a mosquito is still meat, and we should not fall into this crude consumption trap.

Luo Zhi rested his head on his arm, deleted the text message, and swiped the screen of his phone.

The Luo family's dinner party did not seem to go well.

Jian Huaiyi's injuries were all on the most conspicuous parts of his face, and no matter how talented the makeup artist was, they could not hide them. As soon as he turned his head, people would notice the clues, and naturally rumors would spread.

Gossip is probably something that is ingrained into human genes. Luo Zhi spent ten minutes reading the entire farce on her friends' circle.

The head of the Luo family was so angry that he was fuming and severely reprimanded the eldest young master of the Luo family and young master Jian.

The Luo family announced that Jian Huaiyi had an accident on the road and was fortunately not seriously injured. The specific circumstances are still under investigation.

Jian Huaiyi delivered a speech at the banquet despite his injuries and officially took over part of the Luo family's business.

Jian Huaiyi did not want any shares in the company.

The three children of the Luo family were so anxious to keep the secret that they finally managed to fool Mrs. Luo and make her believe that Jian Huaiyi had stepped into a ditch and fallen while walking at night, so they did not make a big fuss.

Luo Zhi slumped in her seat, her fingertips resting on the last circle of friends, pausing for two seconds before swiping upwards.

Of course, “the three children of the Luo family” did not include him. Luo Zhi had known this for a long time, but he was not too sad about it.

Many things require getting used to.

Even if it's uncomfortable and unbearable at first, and it feels like a red-hot iron rod is stuck in your body, it will just be that way after you get used to it.

As for how many cracks are hidden under this habitual calm shell, how much slowly flowing karmic lava that may devour everything, and when it will collapse completely when the last straw falls... no one knows.

At least Luo Zhi still feels numb now.

He didn't feel any discomfort physically or mentally, but out of reason and desire to survive, he thought it would be best not to go back to the Luo family during this period of time.

The matter was too big a deal. The head of the Luo family has always attached great importance to the reputation of the Luo family, and he was undoubtedly really angry last night.

When faced with his most proud and outstanding eldest son and his adopted son whom he particularly admired, Luo's father simply reprimanded them harshly. If Luo Zhi appeared in front of him, he might have his legs broken by the serious family rules.

Luo Zhi clicked on Luo Cheng's circle of friends, found the family photo that was shared, and enlarged it to take a look.

There are five people in the photo.

Luo Chengxiu is the patriarch of this generation of the Luo family. In Luo Zhi's impression, this man who can only call father with his head down is fierce, stern and unsmiling, and may throw him into the confinement room at any time to kneel and reflect.

Luo's mother's surname was Jian, and her name was Jian Rou. The name Jian Huaiyi was changed to follow Mrs. Luo's surname.

In the photo, Mrs. Luo hugged Jian Huaiyi tightly, with her arms in a paranoid protective posture, as if she was guarding some lost and recovered treasure.

In addition to Luo Jun, there is also a well-behaved-looking girl around Jian Huaiyi, who is their younger sister Luo Cheng.

Luo Cheng is 20 years old and a sophomore in the next city. This time, she took a special leave to come back to celebrate Jian Huaiyi's birthday. She also secretly designed a fireworks show as a birthday surprise for her brother.

Although there were some unpleasant incidents last night, the family still stayed together warmly.

Even Luo Chengxiu, who was always serious, had a barely perceptible hint of gentleness in his expression when he looked at his children.

Luo Zhi saved the photo.

He was about to put down his phone when an incoming call suddenly popped up on the screen.

After seeing the note on the incoming call, Luo Zhi was stunned.

...Luo Cheng’s call.

Luo Zhi held the phone and didn't answer it immediately.

He lowered his eyes, looking at the notes thoughtfully, his slender pale fingers hovering in front of the screen, and he paused slightly without even noticing.

Perhaps it was the family photo that gave him some unrealistic fantasies... In a flash of thought, Luo Zhi actually wondered if it was possible that the birthday was mentioned in this phone call.

Luo Zhi quickly and rationally suppressed this idea.

He answered the phone: "Xiao Cheng? What's the matter——"

"Luo Zhi." The girl on the other end of the phone said coldly, "My second brother and I work in a film and television company."

She seemed reluctant to say a word more, and just said briefly: "Come over, Dad wants to see you."
