Christmas Eve.
Having learned from last night's experience, Yu Mobai made a special trip with Dong Yike to the shopping street where they had watched a movie for the first time.
The commercial street was packed with people, mostly couples.
After all, in this not-so-developed era, if we can't stay at home watching videos, we can only go out shopping.
If I don't pull him along, he'll probably be holding someone else's wife when he turns around again.
"Wow, Little Whitey, there are so many beautiful things here."
Dong Yike really likes the little things sold by roadside vendors on their carts.
Especially some Christmas-themed Santa hats and reindeer headlamps.
The stall owner was a man dressed as Santa Claus, complete with a long white beard, a Santa hat, and a red scarf.
Dong Yike watched for a while and then suddenly said, "When I was little, I looked forward to Christmas the most. Every year I would dream that when I woke up, there would be gifts from Santa Claus in the stockings by my bed."
"Then I went to my mom to make a scene, but she always impatiently sent me away."
"And now? Do you still want it?"
Yu Mobai asked with a smile.
"Nowadays, people don't have so many fantasies. There's no such thing as Santa Claus. It's just a legend, something to fool children."
Dong Yike smiled and shook her head, tucking her hands together and exhaling warm breath.
Yu Mobai didn't say much, he just held her cold hand tightly.
There were many such stalls along the roadside. Dong Yi could walk around and stop, constantly holding up various small items and gesturing at Yu Mobai.
Finally, he was satisfied only after buying two miniature Santa Clauses.
As the crowd continued to move forward, the two were suddenly drawn to a piece of music.
That was a milk tea shop.
"Shall we go get a milk tea?"
Dong Yike pulled Yu Mobai inside, saying, "It's been so long since I've had a drink."
As you push open the door, you're greeted not only by the warmth of the heater but also by the aroma of milk tea.
Christmas music plays automatically, and the house is decorated with Christmas-themed stickers.
The roof is decorated with ribbons, just like the decorations for a primary school party.
The two found a seat by the window and sat down.
Several strings of small colored lights on the window kept flashing, and the light shone on Dong Yike's profile, making her look somewhat dreamy.
She didn't speak, but rested her delicate chin on her hands and quietly looked out the window through the glass.
His eyes reflected all sorts of people.
Yu Mobai didn't disturb her, but silently accepted the two cups of milk tea handed to him by the waiter.
Some soothing music was playing in the shop, and he looked out the window as well.
The number of pedestrians on the streets outside gradually decreased, leaving only colorful lights and the occasional vendor dressed as Santa Claus pushing a cart past.
"Mo Bai, look, these people are being swept along by the crowd, they don't even have time to stop and look at the scenery around them, what a pity."
Dong Yike, contrary to her usual self, said with a hint of lingering affection in her eyes, "It's a good thing I stopped, otherwise how would I have discovered such a beautiful view of you, wouldn't I?"
Although she was smiling, a tear rolled down her cheek. "Finally, someone will be there to spend Christmas with me."
Yu Mobai didn't know anything about Dong Yike's past before; he only thought she was a crazy girl who liked to joke and swear.
But ever since that night at the train station, he discovered that Dong Yike was already covered in wounds, yet she was walking alone.
This caused him a pang of heartache, and he sat down next to her.
He gently pulled her into his arms.
"What's wrong? I'm fine."
Dong Yike wiped away her tears and revealed her familiar smile again. "I suddenly remembered that I was sitting alone in a milk tea shop last year. It's okay to be a little sentimental sometimes."
She then lowered her head, inserted the straw into the cup, and drank the top layer of milk foam.
Her hair fell loose across her forehead with the movement, and looking at the face that was vaguely visible behind her hair, Yu Mobai suddenly stretched out his index and middle fingers and pinched her little face.
"What?" Dong Yike looked up.
"It's nothing, I just thought you were pretty and wanted to touch you."
Yu Mobai leaned back in his chair with a grin.
The next moment, his gaze was drawn to a candied hawthorn cart outside the window. "Candied hawthorn for sale~ Delicious candied hawthorn~"
"Want to eat?"
“Eat!” Dong Yike nodded.
"wait for me."
Yu Mobai ran out without even putting on his clothes, shouting, "Boss, I want to buy candied hawthorns!"
The candied hawthorns were pretty much the same as I remembered, but the strawberry ones were the hardest to sell. Four strawberries for ten yuan? Only a fool would buy that.
However, perhaps because Yu Mobai is the idiot, the boss even gave him a yam bean as a gift.
When he returned to the milk tea shop, Dong Yike was already dressed and waiting at the door.
She stared longingly at Yu Mobai, her thick scarf covering half of her small face, leaving only her beautiful eyes visible.
"Eat it." Yu Mobai handed it over.
Taking the strawberry, Dong Yike looked at the tempting bright red strawberry coated with a layer of crystal-clear syrup, pulled the scarf down a little, and couldn't resist taking a small bite.
"Kacha".
The sugar coating immediately began to crack open, creating a small fissure along the spot where the teeth had bitten, and then the abundant juice filled the taste buds, both sour and sweet.
Here, have one too.
Dong Yike reached out and brought her hand to his lips.
"You eat first, give me the last one."
Yu Mobai shook his head and then walked forward.
Dong Yike paused for a moment, then looked at the last strawberry, the smallest of the four.
