"separate?"
Unlike Yu Mobai, Ji Mushu's thoughts didn't jump around. Just a moment ago, the two of them were talking about the holiday, but suddenly they jumped to another topic. She even keenly caught the word "breakup".
Why did you break up?
Ji Mushu panicked immediately. She quickly turned to face Yu Mobai, her once clear eyes now churning with turmoil. She gripped Yu Mobai tightly with both hands, and her lips, which had just been curved in a smile, now pursed up as if she could burst into tears at any moment. "Why did you break up with me?"
"What are you thinking about?"
Yu Mobai had only asked a question out of the blue, but he didn't expect Ji Mushu to react so strongly. "I didn't say I wanted to break up."
"You said it."
Ji Mushu sniffed lightly, "You said it!"
"I'm talking about what would happen if I told your dad that I broke up with you."
Yu Mobai chuckled and pinched her cheek until two finger marks appeared on her face before letting go. "Why do you only listen to half of what I say?"
"Then why did you tell my dad we broke up?"
Ji Mushu's face was taut; Yu Mobai hadn't seen her with this expression in a long time.
Ji Mushu used to be unapproachable and cold to everyone; she was a cool and aloof beauty.
After several "reforms" by Yu Mobai, she gradually began to enjoy expressing herself.
In fact, Ji Mushu really liked to express herself, but she was too arrogant and always had to find some excuse between herself and Yu Mobai.
"I was just asking casually."
Yu Mobai waved his hand, "It was just a casual question, don't overreact."
Are you finding me annoying?
Ji Mushu pouted, slowly leaned closer to his ear, and asked with a hint of grievance, "What is it that you dislike about me?"
"No, no, don't overthink it."
Yu Mobai rubbed her head without any politeness, "You're so beautiful, how could I bear to break up with you?"
"If I weren't this good-looking, would you have dumped me a long time ago?"
Women can be so troublesome sometimes; they insist on getting to the bottom of things, asking questions about things that are impossible.
For example, isn't this statement itself a contradiction?
You are you, and this face belongs to you. If you changed your face, you would no longer be Ji Mushu.
"Hey, if you didn't look like this, it's hard to say whether we would have been childhood sweethearts."
Yu Mobai said with a grin, "I've always thought you'd be my wife when you grew up, otherwise who would be your childhood sweetheart?"
"oh."
Ji Mushu glared at him angrily, the tears in her eyes disappearing in an instant. "So if I weren't this pretty, you wouldn't want me anymore and would want someone else instead, right?"
The words may be rough, but the principle is sound.
Yu Mobai gave an affirmative answer, "That's roughly the idea."
A few minutes later, Yu Mobai stood at the library entrance, tightened his clothes, and muttered, "Damn it, I suddenly feel unhappy."
With the exam drawing ever closer, Yu Mobai had expected to spend the last few days uneventfully, but unexpectedly, he received a call from Zheng Zhisheng.
The two agreed to meet at the entrance of Shengda University.
"Mr. Zheng is reminiscing about his alma mater."
Yu Mobai got out of his beat-up secondhand Mazda and asked with a chuckle.
"You were absolutely right."
Zheng Zhisheng had a bicycle next to him, so he probably came by bicycle.
Yu Mobai observed him silently for a while. Zheng Zhisheng was dressed very simply. If you didn't know better, you would think he was an old man who worked as a boiler operator at the school.
Even if such a high-ranking CEO has left the company, he doesn't need to be so down-to-earth.
"I suddenly have a craving for the cafeteria at my alma mater. Come on, Mo Bai, it's my treat today."
Yu Mobai nodded and walked into the school with Zheng Zhisheng.
"It's been a year and a half since we first met. Time flies. I thought you were a real talent back then."
Many of the senior professors at Shengda University enjoy riding bicycles, so Zheng Zhisheng pushing his bicycle around the campus didn't attract much attention.
"Looking at these young kids, I was immediately reminded of my time in college."
Zheng Zhisheng looked at the school with a sense of emotion, "Back then, we didn't have such good facilities. Even getting food was a problem."
"President Zheng, the grand third canteen was just completed a few days ago. You haven't tried it yet, have you?"
Yu Mobai listened silently as Zheng Zhisheng reminisced about his youth, then suddenly laughed out loud, "Youth is for reminiscing, but you still need to fill your stomach before you can reminisce."
"When people get old, they always think about the past."
Zheng Zhisheng laughed and said, "Aren't you from City College? How do you know so much about Shanda?"
"My girlfriend is from Shengda, so I often come here to eat."
Yu Mobai brought Zheng Zhisheng to the cafeteria, where there weren't many people since it wasn't mealtime.
Yu Mobai decided to go get some food himself, but unexpectedly Zheng Zhisheng wanted to come along and even leaned over the window to tell the cafeteria lady not to shake her hands too much.
"Everything has changed in the past ten years or so, but the only thing that remains is that the hands of the cafeteria lady are still shaking so much."
"Decades have passed, but I never expected that Mr. Zheng would still call her 'the cafeteria lady' so affectionately."
Yu Mobai said with a grin, "I'm afraid the cafeteria lady isn't even as old as you."
"You rascal, don't make me sound old."
Holding his tray, Zheng Zhisheng found a seat by the window. "Mo Bai, I hope this won't interfere with your studies?"
"Mr. Zheng, do I look like someone who would study for exams?"
Yu Mobai said with a grin, "I just didn't expect President Zheng to be such a sentimental person, that he would go back to university to reminisce about his youth."
"Emotional people are not suited for high positions."
