The three words Yu Mobai said most often tonight were, "I still remember."
There's no way around it; every memory needs a clear opening statement. The three words "I still remember" are enough to support a complete memory.
He smiled and began to recite, "I hope to find someone like you. Like a refreshing breeze in the mountains..."
Ji Mushu pursed her lips, her arms supporting her on the small bridge, her gaze fixed on the shimmering water, lost in thought.
After a while, she probably got tired of listening and rudely interrupted Yu Mobai, "Stop reading, aren't you annoyed?"
"What, you don't like it anymore?"
Yu Mobai pouted, "You even read the second half of it to me the first time we booked a room."
"boring."
Ji Mushu rolled her eyes and turned to leave, her route suggesting she was heading home to the family compound.
However, going home was not on Yu Mobai's itinerary for today, and he had no intention of letting Ji Mushu go home. He had other plans.
So he abruptly changed his destination to an abandoned train station.
These are childhood memories that belong to both of them.
Jump over the low wall, step over the withered grass, and under the moonlight, a bright railway track lies quietly on the ground.
The sounds of insects chirping could be heard from time to time, and a gust of wind blew by, making a rustling sound.
Although the scene looked a bit creepy, Yu Mobai and his group of children had never been afraid since they were little.
It is said that this railway line was a military-only line at the time, and soldiers guarded every station, making it the safest place.
The temperature in the small county town started to rise in April, and it didn't feel too cold at night.
The two sat on the platform, smelling the combined scent of withered grass, green grass, and damp soil, and gazed at the stars in the sky.
"The same amount as when I was a child."
Listening to the chirping of insects and smelling the familiar scent of withered grass, Ji Mushu gradually lowered her guard and said in a relaxed tone, "I remember when you were in elementary school, whenever you didn't do well on a test, you would run here to hide from Aunt Zheng."
"Yes, unlike you, whose grades have always been so good since childhood."
Yu Mobai followed her words, saying, "You are the 'other people's child' in my mother's eyes, while I am the 'brat' in hers."
"But I betray you every time."
Ji Mushu smiled and said with a gentle breath, "But you still let me know every time you come here."
Do you know why?
Yu Mobai suddenly turned his head and asked.
"Why?"
"Because I was afraid that if I died here, no one would know, but if I told you, my mom would definitely know that I was here."
"Pfft..."
Ji Mushu couldn't help but start talking about her childhood, as if time had turned back. She then said in a cheerful voice, "Then you really should thank me."
"I remember when we were little, our teacher taught us to identify the Big Dipper, and we would always argue about which star it was."
Yu Mobai felt the strands of hair drifting over from next door tickling his face and said with a smile, "Can you still remember clearly now?"
"What's there to forget?"
Ji Mushu tilted her head back and looked and looked, but in the end she could only give up helplessly, "There are too many clouds today, I can't find them."
Yu Mobai laughed and jumped off the platform. "But since we started junior high, it seems like we come here less and less often."
Ji Mushu gently tapped her chin, "It's all because of the heavy academic pressure."
Yu Mobai shook his head. "I mean, you're coming less and less often, but I come here frequently."
"oh."
Ji Mushu bent down and plucked a blade of grass from the crack, twirling it in her hand. "That means you didn't call me."
“Calling you won’t help; Uncle Ji wouldn’t let me call you back then.”
Yu Mobai continued, "Actually, I don't remember much about junior high school anymore. Now my mind is mostly filled with things from high school."
Talking about elementary school, middle school, and then high school is one of Yu Mobai's signature moves.
Tonight we won't talk about anything else, just this word "memories," and I'm going to discuss it with you thoroughly.
"High school was just over, so of course I remember it clearly."
Ji Mushu supported herself on the ground with both hands, her little feet dangling in mid-air. She asked, a little puzzled, "What are you looking for?"
“I remember leaving a shovel here last time I came here.”
Yu Mobai bent down and searched in the dim moonlight. After a while, he laughed and said, "Found it. Next, we'll dig out your high school memories."
"Unearthing high school memories?"
Ji Mushu was taken aback, she didn't quite understand, "Why is it called 'digging it out'?"
"Because I buried your memories there."
Yu Mobai pointed to the damp ground; this was another of his signature moves.
What is it?
The unexpected "treasure hunt" piqued Ji Mushu's interest. She jumped down excitedly, a hint of surprise on her face, "What did you put down there?"
"Is it the hair clip I like? I said I've been looking for it for a long time and I still can't find it."
Yu Mobai shook his head.
"That's high school level material? I lent it to you and you never returned it."
"Why would I hide something like that?"
"What is that? Is it a campus card from back then?"
Ji Mushu gave several answers, but all of them were wrong, which made her frown slightly.
"You'll know once you dig it up."
Yu Mobai handed over the shovel, "Do you want to dig up some old memories and take a look?"
Ji Mushu nodded and, at Yu Mobai's prompting, began digging on a flat piece of ground.
