Chapter 175 Envy and Jealousy

They euphemistically call it: Ascension, attaining immortality.

She was very young then and had no idea what had happened to her people. All she knew was that overnight, all the dragons had disappeared, including her parents.

Only the young dragons remained, along with the older dragons who couldn't bear to part with the delicious food of the human world; she was one of those who stayed behind.

Compared to dragons that are tens of thousands of years old, she, a child who is only a few hundred years old, is indeed not very old.

After that, the cultivation world suffered from a lack of spiritual energy, scarcity of rare and precious materials, shorter lifespans, and even fewer people reaching advanced cultivation levels, leading to a decline in overall strength.

Even those disciples with talent and ability to produce disciples are now extremely rare; the remaining ones are fighting amongst themselves for cultivation resources.

Meanwhile, the Vermilion Bird, one of the ancient divine beasts, also perished along with its entire clan at the same time, disappearing without a trace. Later, the Phoenix took over the title of divine beast from the Vermilion Bird.

Thinking about this, Qingyun looked at Nian Wanzhou with a strange expression.

She felt that it was impossible for all of this to be such a coincidence.

“Little Wanwan, do you remember what your parents looked like? I have lived in my clan for thousands of years, and I know all the dragons who survived. You can describe them to me, and maybe I can find them for you,” Qingyun said thoughtfully.

She felt that this matter was not simple.

Without a sufficient reason, no one would allow a young girl in her early twenties to be left alone here with a dragon.

Nian Wanzhou quickly shook her head: "Senior Qingyun, when I was born, there was no one around me, and I don't remember who my parents were."

Then, pretending to have been touched on a sore spot, she became melancholy.

"If I had known, I wouldn't have followed Nan Yu to make a living in the secret realm. Now that I've joined the Tianji Sect and recognized my godfather, I've long regarded everyone in the Tianji Sect as my family."

Qingyun sighed and patted her arm: "Good child, it's really hard on you, but you're so sensible!"

Her words were filled with heartfelt words of comfort.

Nian Wanzhou lowered her head, looking distressed.

Nan Yu quickly changed the subject: "Let's not talk about this anymore. Look, Senior Sister has already comprehended the sword intent and come over."

The three looked in Wei Wenru's direction, and sure enough, Wei Wenru had happily put away the Meteor Sword and walked back looking like she had returned with a full load.

Qingyun smiled and nodded: "The little girl is indeed clever. Absorbing sword intent usually takes a long time, but she didn't take long at all. Xiaobao, go and prepare some food!"

The two quickly bowed and said, "Senior, how can we accept this? We've already taken three of your sword intents, we can't accept any more of your food."

Fire Cloud Cat obeyed the command and happily wagged its tail to prepare food.

Looking at that fiery red tail, fluffy and soft, Nian Wanzhou was incredibly envious.

Turning to stare at its somewhat bald tail, it felt secretly saddened.

Qingyun then beckoned Wei Wenru to sit down at the table and said with a smile, "It's alright, consider it a gift for keeping me company while I chat. Wei girl, come over and share your thoughts with your junior brothers and sisters."

"Thank you, senior." Wei Wenru bowed respectfully, sat down between the two children, and prepared to share her insights.

But then she thought again, something's not right. One of her two junior brothers and sisters is a pill cultivator, and the other is a body cultivator.

What insights could a sword cultivator like her possibly share with them?

But since she had already accepted the offer, she had no choice but to explain it, thankfully her junior sister was very sensible.

"Senior sister, senior sister, how are you feeling? I think those three sword intents are very mysterious, so I've been carrying them with you. Aren't they amazing?" Nian Wanzhou shrank a lot, hugged Wei Wenru's arm, and blinked her eyes admiringly as she asked.

Wei Wenru smiled and pinched her nose: "You're really my little lucky star, Wanwan, you brought such a wonderful sword intent to your senior sister."

The hidden mysteries within were extremely profound. My senior sister saw many cultivators before her, freely fighting with their most powerful sword techniques. The scene was one of clashing blades everywhere. Look, my hand was injured by their swordplay.”

Nian Wanzhou listened with great interest, and when she saw the scratches on Wei Wenru's hand, she even exclaimed "Wow!" in agreement, and then examined them carefully.

He put it down only after finding nothing was wrong, and then continued to talk to Wei Wenru.

This scene made Qingyun envious and jealous. How could this little white dragon be so cute and interesting? She wished she could squeeze herself in and chat with the little girl.

Qingyun thought to herself as she quietly approached.

"Meow~ Master, your disciple has brought these spiritual fruits and grilled fish." The Fire Cloud Cat meowed, interrupting Wei Wenru.

Upon seeing the delicious food, Nian Wanzhou's eyes lit up, and she finally managed to look away from Wei Wenru's face.

"Eat up, Huoyun, you've worked hard." Qingyun stroked Huoyun Cat's fur and smiled as she urged the three of them to start eating.

Fire Cloud Cat rubbed against her, enjoying the moment.

"Thank you very much, senior. We won't stand on ceremony then!"

As the year drew to a close, Zhou Fengyun ate his last few bites. Halfway through, he took out many delicious pastries from his storage ring and pushed them in front of Qingyun.

She said cautiously and innocently, "Senior, please try my snacks. I stole... no, borrowed them from the sect. They're delicious!"

"Okay, thank you very much, Wanwan." Qingyun accepted the food without hesitation.

Before eating, Fire Cloud Cat tried to stop her, but was pushed aside. He could only sniff it himself to make sure it was okay before watching his master, who was bewitched by her beauty, eat it.

"Senior sister, should we continue on our way?" Nian Wanzhou asked, her mouth full of three or four grilled fish.

"Well, once we leave the senior's underground palace, we'll continue on our way. It would be best if we could find Song Yan and the others so we could train together; that would be safer." Wei Wenru didn't eat much, just watching them eat, like Huo Yunmao.

"Are you still going out?" Qingyun asked, wiping the crumbs from the corner of her mouth.

"Yes, senior, we still need to continue our training. We'll wait until the secret realm ejects us in a month," Wei Wenru replied truthfully.

Qingyun was a little disappointed. She had finally woken up and met the little dragon cubs, but now they had to part with her because they were going on a training expedition. She was really reluctant to let them go!

"How about I go on this training trip with you?" Qingyun asked.

Wei Wenru quickly waved her hand in refusal: "Senior, you mustn't. This is our junior's training opportunity. If you interfere, this hard-won training opportunity will be wasted. We hope you will understand."

Qingyun was somewhat disappointed, but upon reflection, it made sense; one shouldn't interfere with the training of the younger generation.

He could only say, "In that case, I wish you success. I will come looking for you after you leave."

"Thank you for your understanding, senior." Wei Wenru clasped her hands in a gesture of respect.

"Thank you for your understanding, Senior Qingyun," Nian Wanzhou and Nan Yu added.

After the three finished eating, they formally took their leave, bowing deeply and saying, "Thank you for your hospitality, seniors. We will take our leave now."
