Chapter 149 The Box

"Ayan, what are you doing?" It seemed to be the first time she had ever seen Ayan with such a bad temper.

Chen Zhiyan said fiercely, "You're not allowed to look."

But she posed no threat at all; instead, she charmed Wei Wangqing.

"Haha, you're so cute, Ayan."

Chen Zhiyan was furious and embarrassed. "My wife, how could you do this? You rummaged through people's things without their permission."

"Hey? I didn't flip this over." Wei Wangqing pulled over Wei Yingling, who was watching the commotion from the side.

"It was Ling'er who was being mischievous, rummaging around everywhere, that's how she found this box."

Ling'er looked at her mother, who kept talking, with an innocent expression.

"And also, Ayan, why are we being so formal with each other, calling each other 'yours' and 'mine'? Don't you think that's too much of a formality?" She then gave Chen Zhiyan a flirtatious wink.

Chen Zhiyan was furious, but couldn't argue with her.

He bluntly and unreasonably said, "I don't care, you're not allowed to look."

Wei Wangqing picked up the child and took him outside, saying, "Good boy, go play with your brother."

After saying that, he slammed the door shut.

Wei Yingling stood outside the house, looking completely bewildered.

Wei Wangqing was not worried at all; palace servants would take Ling'er to find her brother.

Now, her concern is for her husband.

Chen Zhiyan looked at her warily, "What are you going to do?"

He even sent Ling'er away. In broad daylight, she wouldn't do something indecent to him just because she couldn't argue with him, would she?

Wei Wangqing looked at Chen Zhiyan with amusement. What could she possibly do to him?

Why are you so wary of her!

Wei Wangqing pulled him over and reopened the box.

"You..." Chen Zhiyan was furious.

“I’m so happy, Ayan.”

Chen Zhiyan was stunned.

Wei Wangqing looked at the things in the box; they were all little trinkets from their time together, which he had carefully preserved.

There were paintings she had given him, lanterns, and all sorts of letters, all neatly arranged in the box.

“I’m so glad to see that you still keep these things; it proves that you love me as much as I love you.”

Chen Zhiyan didn't expect that these were the things she was thinking of. Actually, he was afraid that she would see them, not only because he was embarrassed, but also because he was afraid that she would laugh at him for being useless.

Wei Wangqing suddenly got up to leave.

Chen Zhiyan panicked, "My lady." Could she be angry?

Wei Wangqing turned around and smiled, "Wait for me a moment."

After saying that, he turned and left.

Chen Zhiyan was relieved; at least his wife wasn't angry.

Perhaps he was making a mountain out of a molehill, but he was very happy that his wife was so tolerant and fond of him.

Chen Zhiyan waited obediently for Wei Wangqing to return.

When Wei Wangqing returned, this was the scene she saw. She thought her little husband was incredibly cute. How could she like him so much?

Wei Wangqing slammed the box down on the ground.

Chen Zhiyan looked puzzled. "My lady, what is this?"

Wei Wangqing reached out and ruffled Chen Zhiyan's hair. "Why don't you open it and see?"

Chen Zhiyan pouted, wondering if his wife was treating him like one of her two children, and patted his head.

But he still squatted down and opened the box.

But I was stunned when I opened it.

Because of what's inside this box...

They were all gifts he gave to his wife.

There are sachets and perfumes he gave me, as well as his handwritten letters from back then.

Chen Zhiyan was surprised to find that his wife, like him, had kept it.

Wei Wangqing smiled and said, "Look, how well we understand each other..."

Before she could finish speaking, Chen Zhiyan grabbed her and hugged her tightly.

"My wife, how can you be so good to me?"

The sound of Chen Zhiyan's choked voice came from behind.

Wei Wangqing was first surprised by her husband's enthusiasm, then sighed softly and patted his back.

“You’re great too. Shall we put all these things together? When we’re old, we can look at these things and reminisce together.”

"I knew this was a love letter that Ayan wrote to me when she was young." Wei Wangqing couldn't help but laugh as she thought of that time.

Chen Zhiyan also imagined that he would always be with her.

Until old age and death.

Meanwhile, the two little ones in the study were huddled together whispering something.

To be precise, it was one person, Wei Yingling, speaking, and the other person listening.

"Brother, Mother Queen was acting strangely just now. I wonder what she was doing. Should we sneak over and take a look?" Wei Yingling asked excitedly.

Wei Yingzhen, holding a book, said without turning his head, "I'm not going."

"Oh dear, brother, you're so boring." Wei Yingling pouted.

"Hmph, if you won't go, I'll go myself."

"Wait." Wei Yingzhen reached out and grabbed Wei Yingling's collar.

"What are you doing?" Xiao Ling'er asked, somewhat displeased.

"Do you still want a younger sister?"

"Huh?" Wei Yingling was taken aback and stopped struggling.

He turned his head and thought, "I wonder, is my little sister about to come out?"

After saying that, he looked around to see if his younger sister was hiding in some corner.

Wei Yingzhen looked at his foolish younger brother and sighed helplessly. "If your sister isn't here, she'll appear in Father's belly, as long as we don't disturb her."

"What?" Wei Yingling opened her mouth wide in surprise.

"How could my sister be in Father's belly? No... Father ate her!" She covered her mouth in horror, as if she had discovered some earth-shattering secret.

Looking at Ling'er's expression, Wei Yingzhen knew what was going on in his little head.

She gently tapped him and said, "Don't get the wrong idea. How could Father eat your sister? Your sister can only grow up in Father's belly, just like us. We also grew up slowly in Father's belly."

"Really?" Xiao Ling'er's eyes widened with curiosity.

"Of course it's true." Wei Yingzhen wanted to knock his stupid brother's head again, but he controlled himself.

My mother said that if she hit my younger brother's head too many times, he'll really become stupid.

Wei Yingling looked at Wei Yingzhen with admiration, "Brother, you're so amazing! How do you know so much?"

Wei Yingzhen enjoyed his younger brother's admiring gaze, feeling that his clumsy brother wasn't entirely useless.

"If you read more books, you'll understand more."

Upon hearing this, Wei Yingling immediately fell silent.

Seeing this, Wei Yingzhen shook his head helplessly.

Time flies, and not long ago, Wei Wangqing received a letter from the Southern Dynasty.

It is said that the Southern Emperor and the Empress will personally come to the Great Wei to sign a century-long peace agreement.

Wei Wangqing readily agreed.

But Wei Wangqing felt that, given Nanlin's personality, he certainly wouldn't remember such a thing.

It's obvious that Nan Xiangyue was the one who orchestrated it.

Perhaps Nan Xiangyue went there in person because she was homesick.

Wei Wangqing was right after all.

The Southern Dynasty Imperial Palace.

“Let’s take Lin’er with us. It’s time for the child to meet her maternal grandmother and uncle.”

Nanlin naturally responded without hesitation.

On the contrary, it made Xiaolin'er extremely excited, as this was her first time traveling far from home.

Moreover, she was going to her mother's hometown, which she had heard was completely different from the Southern Dynasty, and she really wanted to see it for herself.
