Chapter Fifty-Six: New Year's Eve Feast (Part 1)

After the two left, Yuanhua finally couldn't help but step forward and say, "Your Highness, is it inappropriate to send Lianqiao to the Madam's room?"

"Oh? Tell me about it." Wei Wuyan was quite tolerant of Yuanhua, after all, this person had always been by his side in his previous life and had never left, but she didn't end up with a good ending.

"Then I will speak boldly. I think Lian Qiao is not a docile person. Even if Your Highness wants to place someone in the Madam's room, you should place someone who is easy to control. I think this person is not suitable for Your Highness's use."

Wei Wuyan was truly surprised to find that his judgment was inferior to that of a mere servant, since both of them had been promoted to him by his father and empress in the palace.

He naturally trusted the people his father gave him, and thus always placed great trust in these two men. That's why he was struck dumb when they betrayed him.

He just didn't expect that people's hearts could change!

Perhaps at first, he was sincere. Genuinely grateful, genuinely kind to himself, but somehow his heart grew too big for his britches.

They've become ungrateful!

"It's alright. I never expected him to be of any use to me. I have other plans for this matter, so you don't need to worry."

"It was my fault for being so talkative." Yuanhua wasn't afraid of these things. As long as His Highness had a plan in mind, that was fine. He was just afraid that His Highness would suffer a loss.

The Queen Mother once pulled them out of poverty so that they could stay by His Highness's side and protect him. He cannot disappoint the Queen Mother, nor can he betray the kindness shown to His Highness and the Queen Mother.

So, people's hearts are ultimately different. You never know what kind of people you're saving. Some are grateful, while others will turn around and retaliate.

"No, it's good that you're like this. From now on, you'll be the only one by my side, and you'll be in charge of everything. I don't trust anyone else."

Yuanhua was deeply moved. He never expected His Highness to trust him so much. He would definitely not let His Highness down.

"I will certainly live up to Your Highness's expectations," Yuanhua said firmly.

Days passed by little by little.

The fourth princess still visits the empress every day to make her presence known and to show her filial piety.

Besides reading and writing, Wei Wangqing added another activity to his routine: archery. The hidden arrows he had been given were already made when he returned. Whenever he got tired of reading, he would go out and practice his aim. He found it quite interesting, and even started practicing bow and arrow as well.

Having more skills is never a bad thing!

But she didn't neglect her fiancé either; however, because of what happened last time, she never brought him up again. She only sent polite greetings on holidays, gave him some gifts, and a letter or two.

Wei Wangqing felt that their relationship was quite stable.

Meanwhile, the relationship between Wang Fengyue and Lian Qiao in the Wang Mansion developed at an astonishing speed. The two were so inseparable that anyone who didn't know better would probably think they were the newlyweds.

The Fifth Prince felt that Lian Qiao had indeed not disappointed him; her methods were as consistent as ever.

It's time to let Chen Zhishao know, otherwise, Wang Fengyue might have already forgotten about her.

The Fifth Prince went to the palace again.

The people in the palace are used to it. It seems that the Fifth Prince and Empress have gotten along even better since the Fifth Prince got married. He runs to the palace from time to time. I wonder if his wife can stand it.

If you ask Wang Fengyue, he's currently enjoying the company of a beautiful woman; he has no time to bother with you!

"Father, that's how it is," Wei Wuyan said quietly.

"Alright, Father, I understand. I will take care of it for my son. Just wait for news."

"Thank you, Father." the Fifth Prince said coquettishly.

The day after tomorrow is New Year's Eve banquet.

This time, the Empress granted the privilege of allowing each family to bring two outstanding illegitimate daughters or sons to participate, and as a result, the illegitimate children from each household performed with great enthusiasm.

The Chen residence.

Chen Min said, "Keep an eye on the two children and don't let them do anything out of line at the banquet."

Mr. Chen rolled his eyes. "I will naturally take good care of my own son, but I can't control other people's."

Seeing this, Chen Zhishao, sitting below, said cautiously, "Mother, don't worry, I won't cause trouble for Father."

Chen Min nodded in satisfaction.

The Chen family naturally didn't need to fight over it, since they didn't have many children. Chen Min had three children: the eldest son Chen Zhiyan, the second son Chen Zhishao, and the third daughter Chen Zhidao, who was only four years old.

The third young lady's biological father was of humble origin, a servant born into the household. He only rose in status because he had a daughter. However, his health was always poor, so he rarely appeared in public.

Father Chen then led Chen Zhiyan and Chen Zhishao onto the carriage. Inside, Father Chen reminded his son, "Be careful what you say at the palace banquet. You are now the Sixth Princess's fiancé, and your every move represents her. We must not cause her any trouble."

Although Mr. Chen knew that his son had never required him to worry, as a father, how could he not give him a few more instructions?

Chen Zhiyan nodded; he naturally wouldn't cause her any trouble.

Chen Zhishao, who was sitting quietly to the side, seemed to be lost in thought.

On the other side, Wei Wangqing from the Princess's residence was also sighing, "Time flies so fast, it's already the Spring Festival in the blink of an eye."

I wonder how her parents are doing. Oh well, there's no point in thinking about it.

At the same time, in different places, everyone was heading towards the palace.

In the main hall, rows of palace maids dressed in light gauze carried wine cups and delicacies, moving back and forth as if dancing with their fingers, light and swift.

Before long, more and more people arrived, and all around were sounds of flattery and pleasantries.

For example.

"Lord Li, it's been a long time."

"Yes, yes, how have you been lately? Oh? Is this your daughter?"
