Chapter Fifty-Two Rebirth

Meanwhile, the Fifth Prince waited quietly for his wife's arrival in the bridal chamber.

No one could see the expression on the face beneath the veil.

After seeing off the guests, Wang Fengyue walked in unsteadily and waved away the people in the room.

The matchmaker couldn't help but say, "My lady, the veil hasn't been lifted yet."

"Get out!" Wang Fengyue shouted angrily.

Wang Fengyue walked to the bedside, lifted the red veil, and casually tossed it off.

"Are you satisfied now? You've finally gotten your wish and married me."

Wang Fengyue flicked his sleeve at the Fifth Prince's exquisite face, "But I'm not satisfied, I don't want to! For so many years you've followed me around every day. If any man even slightly approaches me, he'll never see the sun rise the next day. Just because you're a prince, you can get whatever you want, and people will bring it to you. But I don't understand, why do you insist on clinging to me?"

The Fifth Prince looked at the blood-red veil that had fallen to the ground and said something cryptic: "Because I like you, cousin."

"Like it? I don't need your likes."

Wang Fengyue snorted coldly, "Fortunately, heaven has eyes. No one cares about you now. Since you went to such lengths to marry into my Wang family, then you'd better behave yourself and be a good husband to the Wang family from now on!"

After saying that, he turned and left without any mercy, not even sparing him a shred of dignity or respect as a man, and just like that, he left on his wedding night.

Wei Wuyan, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, got up, picked up the veil, held it in his palm, and murmured as if he were a lover, "I'm back, cousin."

But in a corner where no one could see, those eyes seemed to burn with the raging flames of hell, yet they were also on the verge of tears.

The servants guarding the door dared not utter a sound and could only watch as the bride left in anger, leaving the groom alone in the empty room.

The next morning, the newlyweds were supposed to pay their respects to their parents, but because he was a prince and the marriage was by imperial decree, he naturally had to go to the palace to express his gratitude.

I'm going to see the King soon, I'm really looking forward to it.

But when Wei Wuyan actually walked into the main room and saw the king, he still felt a chill run down his spine and couldn't stop his resentment. He had truly served him as his own father, simply because he was the father of the person he loved.

And wasn't he the best to him before?

He was the one who encouraged him to pursue his cousin, telling himself that he could definitely win her over with love. He said that his cousin was just naturally cold-hearted and that he should be more tolerant of her.

Haha! Naturally cold-hearted? No, just towards him.

Just for him!

But what happened? Before the eldest princess's accident, Wang Jun treated him like a son, but afterwards he became a different person, wishing that the marriage contract had never existed. It's pitiful that he had made excuses for his coldness during this period, thinking that it was not good to have too frequent contact before the marriage, and that things would be fine after he married into the family.

It was all just wishful thinking on my part.

Composing himself, Wei Wuyan stepped forward and bowed, "Wuyan greets Mother and Father."

"Get up," Lord Wang said calmly. "Why didn't Yue'er come with you?"

“You know what kind of person our daughter is. Maybe she was late because she was looking at official documents,” Wang Jun quickly interjected.

Wei Wuyan would never believe that Wang Jun knew nothing. Every move in the inner quarters was under the master's control, so it was impossible for him not to know that Wang Fengyue hadn't spent the night in his room last night.

He just never stood up for her; instead, he believed he had usurped his daughter's rightful place as her husband.

At this moment, Wang Fengyue finally arrived late, saying, "Mother, Father."

"Why are you so late? Today we are supposed to go to the palace to express our gratitude. Don't be late." Lady Wang was neither satisfied nor dissatisfied with her nephew. After all, it was a matter of the inner quarters, and she wouldn't interfere too much. However, the fact that he was the Fifth Prince in the past would have made her more cautious and treat him well. Now, he was no different from an ordinary son-in-law, except that he had the royal status. But serving his parents-in-law was still his duty.

"Yes, I'll go right away." With that, she left without paying any attention to the Fifth Prince.

However, the Fifth Prince no longer seemed inclined to follow her around; he wanted to see how she would go to the Empress Dowager's place to express her gratitude all by herself.

Seeing that his daughter had already left and he hadn't followed, Wang Jun was somewhat dissatisfied. "Why isn't Yan'er following?"

"Seeing that my wife doesn't intend to take me, I don't want to put her in a difficult position." In the past, it was because he liked her that he repeatedly tolerated her, even abandoning his dignity as a prince, to allow them to be so presumptuous in front of him.

He used to be such a proud person, but in the end, he was worn down to such a state in this palace. He's no longer a prince, he's not even human anymore.

Wang Jun's smile was somewhat stiff. "Yue'er didn't mean that. She was just in a bit of a hurry and forgot for a moment."

"Then I'm sure my wife will come back to find me soon." Wei Wuyan remained unmoved. His mother was still alive, and he was, after all, representing the face of the royal family. He couldn't tolerate these people humiliating him.

Wang Jun indeed dared not openly break ties from the start. Even in his previous life, he only revealed his true colors after everyone around him had died and he was completely unable to stand up. And now, on the first day of their marriage, he didn't want His Majesty to think that the Wang family was dissatisfied with the bestowed marriage or the prince.

Seeing that Wang Jun indeed dared not utter a sound, Wei Wuyan couldn't help but think how foolish he must have been in his previous life to allow them to bully him like that.

A moment later, Wang Fengyue returned in a rage.

"Why haven't you caught up yet? What are you standing here for? Xie En is going to be late, don't you know that?"

Seeing the finger about to touch his nose, Wei Wuyan reached out and swatted it away.
