Chapter Seventy-Nine: The Wedding (Part 1)

Seeing his father like this, Chen Zhiyan was also saddened. "Father, please don't be like this. I'm fine, aren't I? I'll come back to see you often in the future."

Father Chen thought to himself that his foolish son wouldn't easily return to his father's home after getting married. But this was, after all, his son's joyous day, and he couldn't let him spoil the atmosphere.

Moreover, this is a joyous marriage; such a wonderful match is something others would beg for.

Thinking of his close friends' envious and jealous expressions towards him, Mr. Chen suddenly felt much better.

"Yes, yes, my son is so handsome today, the Sixth Princess will surely be unable to take her eyes off him."

Thinking of His Highness, and knowing that he would be marrying her today, Chen Zhiyan was filled with emotion, finally able to fulfill his wish.

"My lord, the sixth princess has come to fetch you."

"Quickly, quickly, help the young master over there."

Inside, there was another flurry of activity.

Wei Wangqing was already being escorted into the Chen residence by the crowd.

In the main hall, at the head of the group was Lord Chen Min, along with various relatives by marriage or other close families of the Chen family.

Wei Wangqing also saw Lin Dagui, the head of the Lin family, among them. She didn't expect that Lin Dagui would also be there.

Even Chen Zhishao, who had already gotten married, returned, though her expression was somewhat obscure and hard to decipher.

Wei Wangqing stepped forward and called out, "Mother."

"Alright, alright. I'm entrusting Yan'er to you now. I hope the Sixth Princess will treat my son well," Mother Chen said.

"I will," Wei Wangqing solemnly promised.

At this moment, Chen's father and others had already brought Chen Zhiyan over.

Wei Wangqing seemed stunned; Chen Zhiyan today was someone she had never seen before.

Chen Zhiyan usually wears plain or light-colored clothes, so this was the first time she had seen him in a bright red robe. She immediately felt that it was right that he didn't usually wear it.

This is too tempting. If people went out on the street like this, they would probably be completely blocked.

Those around them laughed heartily at the bride's stunned expression as she stared at the groom, making good-natured jokes.

Wei Wangqing woke up with a start, walked over to Chen Zhiyan, and reached out his hand.

"Zhiyan, come with me."

This was the first time she had called him by his name; before, she had always addressed him as Young Master Chen.

Chen Zhiyan also realized for the first time that this was how her name sounded when she called him, which warmed his heart.

Chen Zhiyan reached out and placed his hand on hers.

Wei Wangqing took his hand and said to Chen's father, "Thank you, Father."

Mr. Chen's eyes welled up with tears. "Alright, alright. I'm entrusting my son to you."

"I will certainly live up to my father's expectations."

After the two bid farewell, Wei Wangqing directly put them into the sedan chair, circled the city once, and then returned to the Princess's residence.

After the wedding procession left, the Chen residence fell silent instantly.

The tears that Chen's father had been holding back immediately burst forth. Chen Min quickly comforted him, "Don't cry, this is a good thing, why are you crying?"

Lan Shijun watched this scene with a cold eye. He thought Chen Jun was being incredibly pretentious, getting a good deal and then acting innocent. If his son could marry so well, he would be overjoyed. Yet his wife was actually comforting him.

She looked at her good-for-nothing son, who hadn't been able to conceive after being married for so long. Wasn't Wang Fengyue supposed to like him a lot? Why hadn't he given her a child?

As Chen Zhishao watched all this, he wondered why fate was so unfair. Some people were born as legitimate sons, getting everything they wanted—the exclusive favor of their wives, grand weddings. But he, he had to fight for everything he wanted and face all sorts of injustices. He had lost everything from the moment he was born.

So he was unwilling to accept his fate and wanted to climb higher, but one wrong step led to another, and the origin of all the mistakes was that banquet. And the little bit of affection he once had for Wang Fengyue had long been worn away in the power struggles within the inner quarters.

Love? What is that?

Meanwhile, the wedding procession of the sixth princess was circling the imperial city.

The people on the street were all amazed, thinking how extravagant the royal family was!

Look at this dowry and betrothal gifts, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to call it a grand wedding procession.

Moreover, this princess is quite pretty, isn't she? Dressed in her wedding gown, she stands on horseback, her figure fluttering in the wind. Her eyebrows are slightly raised, her lips are lightly touched with rouge, and she radiates the glow of the morning sun.

It's said that people are in high spirits when they have good news.

Finally, the group returned to the Princess's residence before the auspicious hour.

There are so many guests here.

Many high-ranking officials from the court came, and the usual social interactions still took place.

Wei Wangqing and Chen Zhiyan walked all the way to the wedding hall.

"The auspicious time has arrived."

"First bow to Heaven and Earth."

Wei Wangqing and Chen Zhiyan held hands tightly and both bent over.

"Bowing to the parents twice."

This bow is to Xu Xian, who has already passed away; your daughter is now married.

"Husband and wife bow to each other."

The two finally let go of each other's hands, bowed deeply, and said, "Please guide me in the future, my husband."

The ceremony is complete.

"Send them into the bridal chamber."

Wei Wangqing took Chen Zhiyan's hand again and escorted him all the way to the new house.

Wei Wangqing waved everyone away, then became a little nervous and didn't know what to say.

"Um, are you hungry?" Suddenly remembering that the wedding procession seemed to take a long time, he guessed he was hungry.

Chen Zhiyan found it somewhat amusing; it was rare to see His Highness like this. "I'm not hungry."

"oh."

"Aren't you cold?" Wei Wangqing regretted asking the question as soon as she finished speaking.

Seeing Wei Wangqing's frustrated expression, Chen Zhiyan couldn't help but laugh. He had been nervous himself, but seeing that His Highness, or rather, his wife, was even more nervous than him, he suddenly stopped being nervous.

"My lady, why don't you go outside and greet the guests first?" Chen Zhiyan suggested.

Oh, right. She really forgot about all those people outside.

"I'll go right away."

As he walked to the door, he turned back and said, "Just tell the servants what you need, and I'll be back soon."

"Okay, I understand." His wife really treated him like a child, taking care of him in every way. But it felt really good.

After Wei Wangqing left, Chen Zhiyan instructed Zhima to bring some hot water so that it would be useful later.

Sesame was also getting to know everything in the mansion, including the servants and the new master's habits.

After hearing what Green Branch said, I couldn't help but sigh. This sixth princess is really easy to serve. There are basically no taboos. The servants just need to do their jobs.

This way, the household will be less troubled, and the young master will have an easier time.

Oh, right, he should start calling him "Lord" now; he can't cause trouble for his lord.

Wei Wangqing returned to the hall.

The fourth princess came over first, "Congratulations, Sixth Sister."

"Thank you," Wei Wangqing said with a smile.

"When are you free, let's go to Chunfeng Tower together again?"

Wei Wangqing frowned. Had the Fourth Princess reverted to her old ways? And to say such things on her wedding day?

"No need, Fourth Sister. Now that I'm married, I'll settle down."

"Huh?" Wei Qingye was extremely surprised. She had always thought that her sixth sister was one of her kind, so how could it be that she was different just because of marriage...

"Fourth Princess, please don't make things difficult for Sixth Prince."

Wei Wangqing was shocked. Why would the Fifth Prince speak up for her?

I hope he's not plotting something bad!
