Chapter Ten: The Auction (Part Two)

Wei Wangqing pondered for a moment, then had Lüzhi call over the waiter, "Could you please ask the person who just bought those slaves if they'd be willing to transfer that one..."

Wei Wangqing paused for a moment, then said, "The price of that free gift is negotiable."

The waiter responded.

Wei Wangqing thought for a moment, then said again, "Wait, tell the buyer that I am the Sixth Princess, Wei Wangqing."

The waiter was startled and quickly bowed his head in agreement.

Nan Xiangyue: "Your Highness, what do you need that slave for? His appearance... is probably an ominous sign."

Nan Xiangrong also looked puzzled and curious.

"It's just that I feel the same way. After all, I'm also an unlucky person. I'd like to see who's the nemesis of whom if we were together," Wei Wangqing joked.

Nan Xiangyue thought to herself that she might have said the wrong thing.

“How can such a lowly person be compared to Your Highness? Your Highness is…” Nan Xiangyue hurriedly tried to salvage the situation.

"No need to say anything more." It wasn't anger, but rather a fundamental difference of opinion. They were native to this ancient system, long accustomed to it, and didn't see anything wrong with it. It was she who hadn't adapted. "I am a noble princess, I am high and mighty. They are just commoners, slaves. Commoners, to hell with commoners!"

Fine, let them think what they want, and I'll do what I want. I'm not trying to challenge the whole system; I'm just going to treat the people around me the way I feel like, doing whatever I please.

Wei Wangqing stopped dwelling on it, but found the atmosphere in the room somewhat stiff.

Wei Wangqing touched his nose, wondering if he had caused this.

Just then, an auction for a dagger had begun on stage. To ease the awkward atmosphere he had created, Wei Wangqing spoke up, "Hey? This dagger looks pretty good!"

It was Nan Xiangrong who spoke: "Your Highness desires it?"

Wei Wangqing quickly waved his hand, "Ah! No, no, I don't know how to use it, I just think it looks nice."

“Your Highness has excellent taste. My brother and I came here specifically for this dagger,” Nan Xiangyue said.

"Then hurry up and take the picture, or someone else will buy it in a bit," Wei Wangqing said hastily.

Nan Xiangyue nodded. "Mm."

"Fifteen thousand taels."

No one bid higher. The dagger was sold.

Soon, the waiter came in carrying a dagger. "Sir, here is your dagger."

Nan Xiangyue accepted the order.

The waiter turned to Wei Wangqing and said, "Sir, the buyer just now meant to meet with you after the auction."

"good."

The waiter turned and left.

Nan Xiangyue picked up the dagger, brandished it a couple of times, and then handed it to Nan Xiangrong, saying, "Here, brother, try out your new dagger."

Wei Wangqing asked Nan Xiangrong in surprise, "Yours?"

"Mmm." Nan Xiangrong felt inexplicably shy.

"I didn't know you knew martial arts!"

"Yes, I learned it from my mother." I wonder if she'll think it's against a man's duty to practice martial arts!

"Oh, okay." Wei Wangqing focused on watching the auction and didn't ask any more questions.

Nan Xiangrong felt a little disappointed. Why didn't she ask more? Could she really think that? But then she thought, she seemed to like soldiers quite a bit, so she probably wouldn't be against martial arts. But those people were all women!

Nan Xiangrong was so conflicted that even her fondness for the dagger faded.

But then I thought about it again and realized that I was probably just trying not to let her look down on me.

The statue being auctioned on the other side is indeed a Buddha statue, but it seems no one is bidding on it.

"An Shi Nu, what's going on? Is there something wrong with this item?" Wei Wangqing asked, puzzled.

Nan Xiangyue replied, "It seems Your Highness is not very familiar with the affairs of the capital! Let me tell you. It's because there have been rumors that the fifth young lady of the Prime Minister's mansion, Yang Yurong, is going to bid for this Buddha statue to celebrate the Prime Minister's birthday! This fifth young lady of the Prime Minister's mansion is quite legendary. She was originally the daughter of a concubine in the Prime Minister's mansion and had always been unremarkable. But half a year ago, it was said that she accidentally fell into the water, and after waking up, she was like a completely different person. She wrote books and poems, and her writings were very rich. Many scholars praised the fifth young lady Yang highly, saying that she was the reincarnation of the God of Poetry!"

Upon hearing this, Wei Wangqing felt that this tactic seemed somewhat familiar.

Wei Wangqing stroked his chin: Hmm, I think I know who's behind this auction house!

Just then, the group arrived at the private room and immediately bid for the Buddha statue, presumably belonging to Miss Yang Wu.

Inside the private room.

One of them bowed and said, "Master, the Sixth Princess of Mei House asked about you."

"The Sixth Princess?" The woman raised an eyebrow.

"yes."

"Same as always, no meeting." It's not time to reveal my identity yet.

Wei Wangqing had no intention of being moved to tears upon meeting someone from his hometown. After all, judging from that person's high-profile style, he was probably not easy to get along with, and Wei Wangqing did not want to reveal his secrets to others.

The last item up for auction is the much-discussed Resurrection Pill, which can bring a person back to life as long as they have a breath left.

Who doesn't value their life? Especially high-ranking officials and nobles.

Therefore, this final, most coveted item is sure to be fiercely sought after.

Wei Wangqing wasn't interested in this; he was simply waiting to meet the buyer after the meeting.

The two people opposite seemed indifferent to the pill either. "Why aren't you taking pictures of this?"

Nan Xiangyue thought for a moment and replied, "This stuff is only highly sought after among these officials. Do you think the royal family would lack elixirs?"

"That's true," Wei Wangqing nodded, "so it seems that the Prince An's mansion is not lacking in resources."

In the end, Wei Wangqing didn't notice who had bought the pills.

Knowing that she had an appointment, the Nan siblings left first.

Meanwhile, Wei Wangqing was about to ask Lüzhi to find out which room the other party was in when the Fourth Princess walked over with a folding fan in hand, and... her face was shiny with oil.

"Fourth Imperial Sister? What are you doing here?" Wei Wangqing asked, rubbing her forehead.

"Sixth Princess, do you not want to see your elder sister?" Wei Qingye asked, seemingly dissatisfied.

"How could that be? I'm just a little surprised. I didn't expect so many people to come to this small auction."

"Your Highness is mistaken. This auction is quite large! And didn't you also take a fancy to a beauty here?" the Fourth Princess teased, giving her a knowing look.
