Chapter Thirty-Five: The Lin Family

That evening, Wei Wangqing returned to the city lord's mansion, as he didn't want the city lord to become suspicious.

After a long day, I slept soundly through the night.

The next morning, when Wei Wangqing went to eat, he found that the city lord was also there.

"Your Highness, is there any progress?"

Oh, so you're here to get information!

"Don't even mention it. I was exhausted yesterday, and I didn't find anything useful."

"Those ignorant masses are terrified, so scared they won't even open the door. Sigh! This investigation is too difficult. Life in the capital was much better!"

"Then Your Highness might as well stay in the manor today, and I can find some people to keep you company."

Wei Wangqing was so startled that his hand trembled. Oh dear, he was talking so inappropriately.

“That won’t do,” Wei Wangqing said mysteriously.

"What do you mean?" The city lord's expression was somewhat unpleasant.

Wei Wangqing quietly leaned closer and said, "My mother has sent people to keep an eye on me."

The city lord was startled and immediately looked around.

Haha! Not scary at all!

After finishing his meal, Wei Wangqing put the cloth strip back on, since he still needed to maintain the facade.

For some reason, the city lord suddenly said, "Seeing Your Highness like this reminds me of someone."

"Who is it?" Wei Wangqing asked casually.

“When the epidemic first started, a man brazenly ran up to my door and said he had a plan to fight the epidemic.”

Upon hearing this, Wei Wangqing paid some attention.

"Upon hearing this, I hurriedly brought the person in, but she was talking nonsense, saying that she needed to wear a mask, yes, probably something like Your Highness's."

Wei Wangqing probably knew who she was talking about.

"She also said to isolate everyone, but the worst thing she said was to burn the bodies of the dead. Isn't that harmful? So I ordered her to be driven away."

Remembering the man's injuries, Wei Wangqing asked, "Just drive him away?"

"Alas! This man refused to leave at first, so I ordered my men to throw him out."

Wei Wangqing didn't speak. She could roughly guess what she was thinking. She thought she could use her foresight and wisdom from the future to show her power and make a name for herself during this plague.

Unfortunately, this was not a plague. And this city lord was not exactly a person devoted to the people; if Yang Yurong truly had a way, she probably wouldn't have driven him away but would have silenced him.

Wei Wangqing didn't know why the city lord suddenly brought up this matter. Perhaps she wanted to give him a warning? Was his every move under her control?

Wei Wangqing walked out of the city lord's mansion, remembering Chen Zhiyan's words that he wanted to go with her.

But where am I supposed to find him?

By the way, he's here to visit relatives, I think it's the Lin family.

Wei Wangqing had no choice but to send Li Nuo back to ask for directions.

On the way to the Lin residence, Wei Wangqing seemed to remember that the business tycoon he was working with was surnamed Lin, wasn't he? He seemed to be in Jiangcheng, what was his name again?

Lin Dagui! Yes, it's Lin Dagui!

What an auspicious name! No wonder their business is so successful.

"It can't be such a coincidence!" Wei Wangqing couldn't help but think to himself.

The Lin residence.

Who is it?

"My lord has come to see the head of the Lin family." He did not directly say that he wanted to see Young Master Chen, otherwise it would inevitably damage the man's reputation.

The servant dared not offend him and had no choice but to invite him into the mansion.

But Wei Wangqing waited for a while and the head of the family did not come. Instead, the steward came.

However, the butler didn't look too well either; his face was extremely pale.

"Please forgive me, Your Highness, but the head of the family is truly terminally ill and unable to rise to greet you."

Wei Wuqing frowned. "Is your master Lin Dagui?"

"Exactly."

"Take me there to have a look." After all, he's one of our own.

"How can this be allowed? Your Highness is of noble birth..." the steward said in a panic.

Wei Wangqing really didn't want to exploit the patients, so she said, "Then I'll find one myself."

Upon hearing this, the butler had no choice but to lead the way.

When Wei Wangqing entered the room, he saw that the patient was not only terminally ill, but was also barely clinging to life.

This is not a good idea.

"Lin Dagui, Lin Dagui? Can you hear me?"

"Open the windows to let in some fresh air, don't keep it covered up," Wei Wangqing instructed, turning his head.

"This...this is contagious, and the patriarch specifically instructed us not to infect others."

I said no.

"What?" The butler wondered if he had misheard.

"Go open the window, don't make me repeat myself again and again." Wei Wangqing's patience ran out.

The steward finally stopped talking and did as Wei Wangqing instructed.

Wei Wangqing continued to call out to her; there was no medicine available, only her spirit to sustain her. And what would a businessman care about most?

"Lin Dagui, wake up! If you don't wake up, your property will be divided up. Are you just going to hand over the family fortune you've worked so hard to build up over your lifetime?"

"Once you get through this crisis, your good days are yet to come. When everything returns to normal, your chance to make money will come again!"

The steward, listening from behind, covered his face in disbelief. Every word His Highness spoke struck a chord with the head of the household!

At first, Lin Dagui, who was lying in bed, vaguely heard someone calling her, but she just couldn't wake up. However, the more she listened, the angrier and more excited she became. With a burst of strength, she opened her eyes.

And it opened its eyes wide all of a sudden, almost startling Wei Wangqing so much that he thought the person had come back to life.

The first thing Lin Dagui saw when he opened his eyes was the Sixth Princess. "The Sixth Princess?"

He then muttered to himself, "Could it be that I'm already dead? But that can't be right, how could the Sixth Princess be dead too?"

Wei Wangqing was speechless.

But the steward behind him was so frightened that he broke out in a cold sweat. "Master, this is the Sixth Princess. She has come to see you!"

Upon hearing this, Lin Dagui exclaimed, "What?" and then tried to get out of bed to bow.

Wei Wangqing quickly pressed her down, "Patriarch Lin, please don't struggle. Just lie here and listen to me." She's already like this, and she still wants to get out of bed?

"I have come here by imperial decree to end the plague. Hold on, there are five more days. If you just hold on for five more days, you will be saved."

Lin Dagui and the butler both looked excited.

We'll be saved in five more days? What does that mean? The entire city's inhabitants won't have to die!

His Majesty has not abandoned them!

The Emperor's grace is boundless!

Lin Dagui's direct feeling was that becoming a disciple of the Sixth Princess was the best decision he had ever made in his life. Not to mention how much money he made because of the Sixth Princess's protection, he probably wouldn't have survived this trip if the Sixth Princess hadn't come!

The sixth princess is truly my lucky star!

Wei Wangqing thought that belief was really important. Before he arrived, the Lin family head looked like he was about to die, but after being instilled with strength, he immediately had the motivation to keep going for several more days.

Then...should I gather the people of the city together and give them faith? Anyway, it's not a plague now, so gathering in groups won't cause infection.

Thinking it over, Wei Wangqing decided not to disturb the patient any longer and walked out.
