Chapter Thirty-Four: Chen Zhiyan

Wei Wangqing's train of thought was interrupted, and he looked ahead with great dissatisfaction.

"Young Master Chen? What are you doing here?" Shouldn't he be staying at the Ministry of Revenue's residence?

Chen Zhiyan was also astonished; he had only discovered her after hearing her innermost thoughts.

"I came back to Jiangcheng to visit my father, but I never expected to encounter the plague," Chen Zhiyan said with a wry smile.

"I see." Wei Wangqing asked Li Nuo to take out the extra strips of cloth and give them to Chen Zhiyan.

"Cover your face to prevent the virus from entering through your mouth and nose."

"Thank you, Your Highness."

"We need to investigate the source of the plague, so we won't say any more to you, young master," Wei Wangqing said, preparing to take his leave.

"Wait, Your Highness."

"Um?"

"I am not very talented, but I have been investigating the plague recently. Could I accompany Your Highness? Perhaps I can be of some help."

"What did you find out?" Wei Wangqing asked in surprise.

"When I arrived, the plague had just begun, but it didn't seem to have spread to the surrounding towns. I suppose the city lord is a capable person. However, when I entered the city, I wasn't stopped much, and they didn't even tell me about the plague outbreak. They just allowed me to enter but not leave. My father's family is the wealthy Lin family of Jiangcheng. Since I'm just the son of a merchant, they didn't question me much. But after entering the city, I found it in complete chaos. There was no one to govern it. Robberies, fights, and murders could be seen on the streets. Fortunately, I brought quite a few guards with me."

"All these sights made me feel that Jiangcheng was very strange, so I came to investigate, but that's all I've found out so far." He said with some shame.

"That's already pretty good." After all, he had taken a shortcut when he arrived, with the city lord directly giving him directions. He had actually figured it out little by little on his own.

Chen Zhiyan smiled, knowing that the other party was not just being perfunctory but was genuinely praising him, and he was very happy.

After all, even his relatives did not approve of him, a man, going out to investigate, but they did not stop him out of consideration for his mother.

As they were talking, they started to walk towards the Li family's house, which was closer.

But before they had taken two steps, someone came to report: "Your Highness, Wu Changming suspects that this is not a plague at all, but voodoo poison!"

"What?" Wei Wangqing was taken aback.

Where is he?

Wei Wangqing and his group quickly went to find Wu Changming.

Chen Zhiyan thought for a moment and followed suit, while Wei Wangqing didn't say anything more.

My mind was racing. If it wasn't a plague but poison, then it must have been done on purpose. Considering the city lord's previous actions, could it be that the city lord colluded with the witch clan?

No wonder! When Wei Wangqing went to the city lord's mansion, no one there was infected. They must have had a way to avoid the disaster.

That corrupt official!

But where did she get the audacity to collude with the witch clan when the two countries had already formed an alliance to fight against them? This is tantamount to treason. There must be someone with powerful connections behind her!

Chen Zhiyan also gleaned the truth from Wei Wangqing's inner thoughts. Given just a direction, this person could unravel the complexities and see the whole picture; this Sixth Princess is no ordinary person!

When the group arrived, they saw Wu Changming among a large group of patients, working hard to help them stop coughing and bleeding.

At this moment, Wei Wangqing truly acknowledged Wu Changming. She knew that no one could act to this extent; she was genuinely trying to save every patient.

The strip of cloth I wore on my face this morning is nowhere to be found.

However, if it's a virus, it naturally won't be contagious.

“Wu Changming.”

"The Sixth Princess?"

"Let's hand these people over to the imperial physicians first. You and I will come out." But at the same time, he summoned out the most respected and skilled imperial physicians.

"You mean there was no plague at all, but poisoning?"

"Yes, I suspect it's voodoo."

How confident are you?

"Ninety percent."

"What do you think?" Wei Wangqing asked the imperial physicians.

"Your Highness, we are not knowledgeable enough to see that there is poison in this."

Wei Wangqing frowned. "How do you explain that?"

"This is the poison of my Wu clan, how could you possibly discern it?" Wu Changming raised his head, seemingly admiring their poison skills.

"Then can you cure it?" Wei Wangqing chose to believe him. If it was a plague, he would get infected himself by doing this, so there was no need. If it was poison from the witch clan, there was even less need to send someone to cure it. Judging from the fact that these imperial physicians couldn't even tell that they had no way to deal with this witch poison, or rather, they didn't understand it at all.

Wu Changming frowned. "It will take time. We haven't seen this kind of poison in the Wu Clan before. It's probably newly developed."

Wei Wangqing thought to himself, "This witch clan is really perverted. They have nothing better to do than research poisons, and the worst part is that they use them to harm people."

"A few days?"

"Five days, within five days, I will definitely be able to solve it."

"Alright, let's begin now. You focus all your efforts on researching the antidote. Don't worry about anything else. The rest of you can assist you. Oh, and don't let anyone know that you're working on the antidote."

Although they were dissatisfied, they dared not refute the Sixth Princess. Moreover, they truly knew nothing about voodoo.

Wei Wangqing walked back, but saw a person on the verge of death by the door.

Does it look familiar?

Li Nuo walked over. "Your Highness?"

"Take a handkerchief and wipe this person's face clean."

A moment later, wasn't that Yang Yurong? How did she end up here, and in this state?

Moreover, he had many injuries on his body, and he looked like a rag doll, completely unrecognizable from his previous appearance.

Chen Zhiyan also came over.

Wei Wangqing frowned, unsure how to deal with this person. After all, they knew each other, and besides, he wasn't exactly a villain.

That's all.
