Chapter Thirty-Two: Rescue

The main force galloped forward on horseback.

"Let's rest here for a while."

These past few days of traveling have been exhausting, but human life cannot be delayed.

Looking at the beautiful scenery, Wei Wangqing exhaled a breath of stale air and felt his heart and mind expand.

After all, Wei Wangqing hadn't traveled far since his transmigration, except for the time he returned to the capital. And last time he even rode in a carriage. This time, experiencing the feeling of galloping on horseback would be quite nice.

Breathing in the fresh air, Wei Wangqing couldn't help but sigh, "There are advantages to living in ancient times!"

But before Wei Wangqing could enjoy himself for long, he saw a group of people chasing someone toward him.

No way!

Could it be that I also have the same trouble-attracting physique as the female lead?

Wei Wangqing walked back to the main group, and those people were still heading this way, no, perhaps it was the person being chased who was heading this way.

"Help! Help!"

Wei Wangqing had no intention of getting involved; after all, who says that those who are being hunted are necessarily good people?

The group of people, on the other hand, were not afraid at all, even though they clearly saw that there were soldiers guarding their side. They seemed to disregard everyone else.

The man seemed to realize that Wei Wangqing was the leader of the group, and hurriedly shouted at her, "Please save me! You can't just stand by and watch me die!"

"What do you have that makes you worth saving?" Wei Wangqing said coldly. He was clearly ruthless.

Seeing that he was about to be caught, he hurriedly said, "I know medicine, I can save people, save me, I will definitely help you."

What a coincidence? They were on their way to treat the plague, and they just happened to run into someone who knew medicine? We'll see what they're made of once we put them to the test.

"Li Nuo." Just in case it comes in handy; if there are any problems, hehe!

"yes."

Li Nuo immediately led his men to fight those people. Seeing that they were losing, the leader waved something and threw it.

"Watch out!" the man warned, but it was too late.

Several people immediately collapsed to the ground, and Li Nuo and his men then attacked with even greater fervor.

Wei Wangqing also sent the soldiers up to help.

Fortunately, the man did not use that method again. Seeing that they were no match for him, the remaining few people suddenly bled from all seven orifices and died.

What kind of eerie method is this?

Wei Wangqing frowned, beginning to doubt whether his rescue was worthwhile.

The person being chased had already started feeding something to the people who had fallen to the ground.

He picked up the knife again...

"What are you going to do?" Wei Wangqing's tone was somewhat unpleasant.

"Help!" Without pausing, he swiftly slashed the guard's wrist with his knife.

Subsequently, they followed the same procedure and did the same to the other individuals.

Not long after, Wei Wangqing and the others saw a small green insect crawl out of the wound on their wrist.

"What are you waiting for? Burn it!"

Upon hearing this, someone immediately took out a tinderbox, but some hesitated to go over.

The man snatched the tinder from his hand and burned the small green insect. With a 'hiss,' it turned to ashes.

Seeing this scene, everyone was speechless for a long time.

"This...this is voodoo! You are a member of the witch clan!" one of the imperial physicians recognized him and shouted sternly.

Upon hearing this, the soldiers immediately drew their swords.

At this moment, the people on the ground slowly woke up.

"It's alright now," the man said.

"Put the knife down," Wei Wangqing ordered.

The imperial physician exclaimed, "Your Highness, you mustn't! This man is from the Wu tribe; he is surely harboring malicious intentions!"

"If I had malicious intentions, why would I save them? Wouldn't it be better to just let them die here?"

"You, you..."

"Alright, Imperial Physician Wang, I will make my own decision." Wei Wangqing started referring to himself outside; he had to maintain his composure so as not to lose control over those below him.

Those people seemed to be mostly fine, except for some blood loss.

Fortunately, Wei Wangqing was overjoyed, realizing for the first time that his decision would kill many people, and that he must never act recklessly again.

"Explain yourself. Give me a reason not to kill you," Wei Wangqing said coldly.

"I am indeed a member of the Wu clan, named Wu Changming, and a shamanic healer. I have loved studying witchcraft since I was a child..."

"To make a long story short, I don't have time to listen to your rambling."

“I disagreed with the beliefs of the Witch Clan and was expelled. Because I possessed many of the Witch Clan’s secret arts, I was hunted down.”

What were they using just now?

"It is a type of voodoo, an insect poison. If the poisoned person cannot remove the insect, the poisonous insect will travel throughout their body and burrow into their heart, causing death."

The people who had just been poisoned felt a chill run down their spines and were filled with lingering fear.

Wei Wangqing felt that the Wu tribe was indeed quite mysterious, and the insect poison was truly terrifying. No wonder the two countries had to work together to fight against the Wu tribe.

However, Wei Wangqing felt that ordinary people might not be up to the task; they would only be sending people to their deaths. Professionals were needed!

For example, this Wu Changming.

However, it remains to be seen whether they can be retained.

"You can come with us for now, but if I notice anything unusual..." Then I thought, what can I do? What if they just casually scatter a handful of insects at me? This witch clan is too difficult to deal with!

"No, no. I only want to save people. I'll behave myself. I can help you if you get hurt."

Haha! I thank you for your bad luck!

The group continued their journey.

As night fell, Wei Wangqing summoned Li Nuo and the others.

"I'm sorry, I was reckless today and almost caused you to lose your lives." Wei Wangqing felt uncomfortable if he didn't say these words, but he felt much better now.

Li Nuo and the others were quite surprised, as they had never seen a master apologize to a servant before.

Li Nuo: "Your Highness, there's no need for that. It's simply our duty."

"Protecting me is your responsibility, not others'."

"But these are His Highness's orders, and we must obey them."

Upon hearing this, Wei Wangqing realized that he had been overthinking things. Yes, they only needed to follow orders.

She just had to be extremely careful with every decision she made from now on. Death was probably inevitable, but at the very least, she didn't want anyone to die because of her.

"Alright, you may all leave now. Get some rest; we have a long journey ahead tomorrow."

"Yes, I'll take my leave."

"I never expected His Highness to value our lives so much," one of them remarked.

"Yes, they even apologized to us."

"Indeed, ever since we were taken into the Princess's residence, we have never had to worry about food or clothing. We are probably living better than some young ladies from ordinary families. It is rare for us to go on a mission with Your Highness, and Your Highness is still so kind to us. We really have no way to repay you."

Li Nuo said, "It's good that you know. We must not let His Highness down and will do everything we can to help him."

"Yes!" a group of people said enthusiastically.

After days of travel, Wei Wangqing and his party finally arrived outside Jiangcheng.
