Chapter 59: What Happened That Year
Old K is the only possible witness that Ye Heng has been looking for for five years.
But Ye Heng could not tell Lin Yao about this matter because of the emperor's order.
Lin Yao looked at Ye Heng, who had not spoken for a long time, and his heart skipped a beat.
Ye Heng's silence meant that he could not be told about this matter, just like the wreckage of the mecha at the auction house, which he could not touch.
This was enough to show the seriousness of the matter. The leaves on the side were rustling in the wind, trying to break the slightly heavy atmosphere.
"Do you need my help?" Lin Yao asked carefully. He didn't want to pursue the matter further, but he also wanted to help Ye Heng.
Ye Heng shook his head and said calmly, "No, I can handle it myself. Don't bother you."
Lin Yao saw the seriousness in his eyes and nodded.
As they were talking, the two had already walked to the security checkpoint of the White Tower. After passing the security check one by one, they took off their masks.
As soon as I walked into the East District Work Hall, I ran into Chen Ke head-on.
When Chen Ke saw Lin Yao, he originally wanted to ask why Ye Heng was the one who told him about his leave request. Unexpectedly, Ye Heng followed Lin Yao in.
When his eyes swept over the clothes on the two people, he suddenly stopped.
Chen Ke looked the two of them up and down, a teasing smile on his face:
"Dressed like this, are you two going to get married?"
When these words came out, Chen Ke thought he would hear rebuttals from the two people.
Who would have thought that Lin Yao just raised his eyebrows, while Ye Heng slightly raised the corners of his mouth, and both of them actually kept tacit agreement.
Now it was Chen Ke's turn to be surprised. His usually expressionless face was instantly filled with shock.
He quickly raised his hand and operated a few times on the terminal on his wrist to retrieve Lin Yao's basic electronic information.
When I saw that the word "unmarried" in the marital status column had changed to "married", my eyes widened even more.
He quickly took a few steps forward, lowered his voice, and leaned closer to ask, "I'm the first one to know, right?"
"Except for the staff at the registration office, you should be." Lin Yao continued his words in a calm tone.
In fact, he and Ye Heng had no intention of making a public announcement about their marriage registration, nor did they intend to conceal it deliberately. They just wanted to let nature take its course.
As for the wedding, it is not in the plans for now. After all, both of them have a lot of things to deal with.
Chen Ke opened his mouth but couldn't say anything for a long time. He just kept looking at the two of them, and the shock in his eyes did not disappear for a long time.
Ye Heng patted Chen Ke's shoulder and said, "Family members please apply for work companionship."
Without waiting for Chen Ke to make any move, Ye Heng and Lin Yao said goodbye to him and walked towards the elevator while talking.
Only after the two figures disappeared did Chen Ke recover. He shook his head and walked towards his post, his tone still filled with disbelief: "These two... are really unexpected."
"No!" After taking a few steps, Chen Ke suddenly stopped and frowned.
He knew the White Tower's rules and regulations by heart, but there was no rule that family members could accompany their children to work, especially in a place like the counseling room, which required absolute silence.
He turned around and ran towards the elevator, his leather shoes making a rapid sound on the floor, attracting the attention of passing colleagues.
Doesn't this person usually refuse to rush? Why is he in such a hurry?
Looking at the changing floor numbers as the elevator ran, Chen Ke knew that the two had gone up, and he immediately pressed the up button of another elevator.
After hurrying no matter how hard he tried, Chen Ke finally saw the backs of two people arriving at the 32-09 counseling room: "Ye Heng! Stop right there!"
Ye Heng turned around and looked at him with raised eyebrows: "What's the matter?"
"You just..." Chen Ke was still panting as he ran closer. After taking a few more breaths, he stared at him seriously: "What do you mean by family members accompanying you?"
"The counseling room is for spiritual counseling. What are you doing standing there?"
"How can the sentries relax when they see a marshal standing nearby?"
"How shameful!"
Ye Heng was about to open his mouth to refute when he saw Lin Yao had already walked to the door of the counseling room. He was leaning against the door frame and looking at them with a teasing smile in his eyes.
"Supervisor Chen is quite lenient." Ye Heng's tone was calm, but with a hint of subtle ridicule.
"Is it not possible for me to just sit in the corner and wait for him without saying anything or interfering?"
"No!" Chen Ke refused to budge, took out the terminal from his pocket and opened the regulations.
"Look, according to Article 7 of Chapter 3 of the White Tower Management Regulations, non-staff members are not allowed to enter the work area without permission..."
The two of them started bickering, talking back and forth.
"That's enough." Lin Yao interrupted them with a smile, stretched out his hand and pushed open the door of the counseling room. He turned to look at Ye Heng, "Stop teasing him."
Just now in the elevator, Lin Yao asked Ye Heng, it seems that there is a rule in the White Tower that does not allow family members to accompany work!
"I still understand the rules. I just want to send you to the door of the counseling room," Ye Heng said darkly.
Then he shrugged: "As for Chen Ke, it depends on when he reacts."
Chen Ke was still muttering to himself about the regulations on the terminal. When he heard Lin Yao's words, he suddenly realized something and looked up at Ye Heng.
Ye Heng was looking at him with a half-smile, and the mockery in his eyes could not be hidden.
Only then did Chen Ke realize that he had been tricked!
"Good for you!" Chen Ke was so angry that his hand was shaking as he pointed at Ye Heng. "You're teasing me on purpose!"
Ye Heng raised his eyebrows, looking innocent: "I said 'application'."
"You applied! What did you apply for? Your tone sounded as if you were informing me!" Chen Ke glared at him, a rare look of exasperation on his usually serious face.
"And you, you joined him in teasing me! You've become evil."
Lin Yao leaned against the door frame of the counseling room and smiled apologetically at Chen Ke: "I'm sorry!"
Then he looked at Ye Heng, "Didn't you say you wanted to go to the West District? Go now!"
Ye Heng then put away his joking expression, said goodbye to Lin Yao, and turned Chen Ke in a direction: "I'm just going to take him to the door. Let's go, Supervisor Chen."
Chen Ke turned around and said "work hard" to Lin Yao, then followed Ye Heng away.
But he was still muttering indignantly: "What do you mean by visiting the patient? I think it's just your excuse..."
But the anger in his tone had mostly disappeared, and there was even a hint of helpless smile in his eyes.
After watching the two of them get on the elevator, Lin Yao smiled, shrugged, and walked into the counseling room.
With Lin Yao's current ability, he was able to guide the three sentries in the morning. It was exactly 12 o'clock when he sent away the last sentry.
At noon, Ye Heng came from the West District to have lunch with him. Lin Yao looked at the time and saw that Lao K would not arrive until two o'clock in the afternoon.
"Do you want me to help you with some deep relaxation?" Lin Yao looked at Ye Heng who was playing with a stress-relieving toy.
The Zerg pinching toy that he and Shasha bought was very popular. Many sentinels who came here for guidance would pinch it whenever they had time in the waiting area.
Later he bought several more and put them on display. Unexpectedly, Ye Heng also liked to play with them.
"Can your body still bear it?" Ye Heng pinched the iron beetle again and again, making a crunching sound.
"No problem." Lin Yao came over and rescued the poor ironclad beetle from his hand.
"After I finish counseling you, you can rest in the counseling room. When Old K comes, you won't have to run back and forth."
Only after confirming again that Lin Yao was capable of guiding him did Ye Heng agree to Lin Yao's suggestion.
-
Afterwards, Lao K arrived on time, and Lin Yao sorted it out for him as agreed before, and the fluctuation value fell to 25.
Afterwards, Lin Yao left the space to Ye Heng and Lao K.
I don’t know what the two people talked about, but when Old K came out, his face was solemn, but when he saw Lin Yao, he still forced a smile at him.
Old K also handed Lin Yao the peace stone that Lin Yao had asked his daughter to weave for him last time, and said to him, "Happy wedding."
"Thanks!"
As the door of the counseling room closed, Lin Yao withdrew his gaze. He glanced at the counseling area and saw that Ye Heng had not come out yet.
Lin Yao walked in lightly and found Ye Heng staring at the paintings on his wall.
The light from the treatment chamber cast a swaying spot on the ground. Ye Heng was sitting at the outermost edge of the chamber, and his usually straight back seemed to bend a little.
"What's wrong?" Lin Yao walked to Ye Heng and stood beside him, his voice so soft as if he was afraid of disturbing something.
Ye Heng's eyelashes trembled, as if he had escaped from a deep nightmare.
He slowly turned his head, with a lingering haze in his eyes, and it seemed as if an icy sea was sleeping deep in his pupils.
The crueler truths that he had just pieced together from Old K's fragmented narration were now like Zerg toxins, densely piercing into his nerves.
At that time, Karen Thorne not only re-shot the wounded soldiers who had lost their combat effectiveness, but even at the moment of the Zerg attack, he personally pushed the soldiers around him to serve as meat shields.
The only reason Old K survived was because when the Zerg's tail stinger pierced his right leg, he happened to roll into a crevice in the rocks.
In the eyes of the Third Prince, he became a discarded pawn who was no need to waste bullets.
This person has no humanity at all.
Old K's words and the scene of him leading his men in a bloody battle on Gamma Star appeared alternately in Ye Heng's mind.
The bloody wind seemed to be blowing from the depths of his memory, dragging him back to the battlefield littered with corpses.
When Ye Heng thought about how he had traveled thousands of miles to save a damned person, he felt very sorry for the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for it.
The emperor's secret order was like an invisible shackle, tightly strangling his throat, making even breathing painful like rust.
Ye Heng couldn't say it, at least not now.
But his faith continues to crumble. Is it really worth serving such a royal family?
"Nothing." When Ye Heng spoke, his voice was as dry as if it had been rubbed by sandpaper. After taking a deep breath, he said, "It's time to get off work, right? Let's go."
He tried to force a soothing expression, but the corners of his mouth were frozen and unable to rise. He could only let the surging emotions gather into a storm in his eyes.
Lin Yao looked at him quietly without asking any further questions.
The look in Ye Heng's eyes was so complicated.
There was a tremendous rage burning, a bottomless powerlessness sinking, and a hint of fragility and confusion that he himself was not even aware of.
This look made Lin Yao's heart feel like it was being gripped by something, and a tingling pain flowed through his blood to his heart.
After a long while, Lin Yao finally said, "Let's go home."
When I came out of the counseling room, the setting sun dyed the sky orange.
Ye Heng walked beside Lin Yao, his steps steady and his back straight again as usual.
However, the faint haze between his brows never dissipated, and even the aura around him became a little colder than usual.
Lin Yao watched him raise his hand and press the solar plexus several times, his fingertips trembling imperceptibly, and the worry in his heart surfaced again.
He paused and turned to look at Ye Heng, "Let's take a taxi back."
When Ye Heng raised his eyes, he had his usual expression, but the fatigue deep in his pupils could not be hidden: "It's okay, I..."
"Be obedient." Lin Yao didn't give him a chance to finish his words. He directly opened the light brain and called a taxi, with unquestionable insistence in his tone.
Ye Heng opened his mouth, but finally nodded silently, but his hands hanging by his side were quietly clenched into fists.
He tried hard to adjust his emotions, fearing that his condition would make Lin Yao worry.
When we returned to Boyue Mansion, it was already completely dark.
Lin Yao took out a pair of slippers from the cabinet in the entrance hall. Seeing Ye Heng almost stepping on empty air when changing shoes, his brows furrowed even more.
"I'll cook some noodles, something simple to eat." He pretended to be casual, trying to ease the atmosphere. "Let Mo Yun out to play with Sha Sha for a while."
Ye Heng hummed softly, and the Mo Yun he released was also listless, with the whole snake showing "bad mood".
Lin Yao let Shasha go out to play with Mo Yun, went to the refrigerator to get some food, and then walked into the kitchen.
Soon a fragrance wafted out.
Lin Yao cooked two bowls of noodles and fried eggs. When they were served on the table, Ye Heng was sitting at the table in a daze, his eyes fixed on the empty table, not knowing what he was thinking.
"Eat first." Lin Yao handed him the chopsticks. The heat from the bowl came over, and Ye Heng seemed to come back to his senses and took the chopsticks.
Dinner was eaten in silence, with only the soft sound of chopsticks hitting the rim of the bowl.
Ye Heng picked at the noodles, his movements somewhat mechanically.
After finishing the meal, Ye Heng took the initiative to get up and clean up the dishes and walked into the kitchen.
Lin Yao was worried, so he followed.
As soon as I stood still, I saw Ye Heng rubbing the plate with a dishcloth, with such force that it seemed as if he wanted to rub a hole in the plate, and foam splashed all over the stove.
Lin Yao hurried over and snatched the dishcloth from his hand, "If you wash this bowl like this, you really should replace it with a new one tomorrow."
Ye Heng froze, looking at the dishcloth that he had rubbed until it was fuzzy, his Adam's apple rolled: "Sorry."
"It's okay." Lin Yao smiled and pushed him aside. "Just stand there. I'll wash it."
Ye Heng didn't move, just stood by and watched Lin Yao wash the dishes.
After washing the dishes, the two came to the living room. The only light was on, the floor lamp. The warm yellow light cast a soft shadow on the floor.
Lin Yao habitually nestled into the wide sofa on the side that could accommodate a large person, leaned his back against the cushions, and relaxed completely.
Ye Heng sat on the single sofa opposite, his back straight, his hands flat on his knees, his posture upright as if he was attending a serious meeting.
Lin Yao tried to find some light-hearted topics, but every time he brought up the subject, Ye Heng would just respond with “hmm” or “ah”, his eyes fixed on a certain spot on the coffee table, clearly not listening.
Several times, Lin Yao saw his lips move, as if he wanted to respond, but in the end he just pursed his lips, swallowed the words, and curled his fingers lightly on his knees.
"Please get me a piece of toilet paper." Lin Yao suddenly spoke, his eyes falling on the tissue box at the other end of the coffee table.
Ye Heng stood up immediately upon hearing the voice, walked a few steps to the coffee table, took a tissue, and turned to walk towards the wide sofa.
He had just stood by the sofa and hadn't withdrawn his hand holding out the tissue when he heard Lin Yao say, "Come closer."
Ye Heng was stunned for a moment, then subconsciously took half a step forward and stood at the edge of the sofa.
At this moment, Lin Yao suddenly reached out, grabbed his wrist, and pulled him into his arms.
Ye Heng was caught off guard, lost his balance, and stumbled into Lin Yao's arms.
The two of them instantly overlapped each other, and Ye Heng's forehead accidentally hit Lin Yao's chin, making a slight sound.
"Ugh..." Lin Yao groaned in pain. Ye Heng wanted to stand up and look at him, but was pushed back by Lin Yao.
Ye Heng could only ask him if he was okay.
Lin Yao rubbed his chin with his other hand, then rubbed Ye Heng's forehead.
"I'm fine, you're the one who's in trouble." He whispered, with an unquestionable sense of strength in his tone.
After saying that, Lin Yao moved to the side to make some space, then reached out and threw the pillow behind him onto the floor.
The sofa is spacious to begin with, and there is a lot of space left after removing the cushions.
Lin Yao adjusted his posture and exerted a little force with his arms to let Ye Heng lie on the inside of the sofa, while he lay on his side on the outside, just enough to hold him in his arms.
Ye Heng's body tensed instantly, and he wanted to struggle as if he was burned, but Lin Yao held his shoulders firmly.
"Don't move." Lin Yao's voice rang close to his ear, with a gentleness that could not be refused, "Let me see."
As he spoke, he slowly activated his mental power. The gentle energy flowed like a gurgling stream, slowly flowing into Ye Heng's body along the touching skin of the two.
Ye Heng could clearly feel the gentle power flowing through his body. Wherever it passed, his tense nerves gradually relaxed, and the stuffiness in his chest was relieved a lot.
He let himself lean in Lin Yao's arms, his nose filled with the faint scent of plants from the other person, which made him feel inexplicably at ease.
Lin Yao placed his fingers lightly on his solar plexus, and continuously sent his mental power to it, carefully sorting out his disordered mental power and soothing his emotions.
He did not ask Ye Heng why, but just focused on guiding him and helped Ye Heng share some of the burden in his own way.
As time passed, Ye Heng's breathing gradually became smoother and his body completely relaxed.
His originally tense shoulders slumped slightly, and the corners of his mouth even unconsciously lifted slightly, as if a heavy burden had been lifted.
Lin Yao felt that the person in his arms had completely calmed down, and the flow of mental power became steady and smooth, and he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He did not withdraw his mental power immediately, but maintained a weak output.
Then he took out the fondant pink aurora alpaca blanket from the storage ring and covered the two of them with it.
He lowered his head to look at Ye Heng's sleeping profile. Under the light, his eyelashes were very long, casting a faint shadow, and the usually cold and hard lines became soft at this moment.
Lin Yao raised his hand and gently brushed away a strand of hair from his forehead, his movements as gentle as if he was treating a treasure.
"Everything will be alright," he whispered, his voice so soft it was a sigh. "Goodnight."
Mo Yun came over and looked at him with his head tilted up. Lin Yao patted his thigh:
"Do you want to be vented too? Put your head up."
Mo Yun put his head on Lin Yao's thigh obediently. The Shasha wrapped around his neck was already releasing energy, but Lin Yao still reached out and touched his smooth head twice.
"Mo Yun, Sha Sha, good night."
After saying that, Lin Yao gave an order to lower the brightness of the floor lamp.
The living room suddenly became quiet, with only the sound of steady breathing interweaving in the air, warm and peaceful.
-
When the sky outside the window was getting light, Lin Yao woke up first.
The person in my arms breathed long and warm air against my neck, with a reassuring rhythm.
He moved his fingers and realized that his hands had been wrapped around Ye Heng's back all night, and were now numb, with even half of his arm a little stiff.
There was a slight noise coming from above his head. Lin Yao looked over and saw it was Mo Yun.
It probably knew that it was too heavy. If it pressed Lin Yao's thigh for a whole night, not only would Lin Yao's arms be numb, but his legs would also be numb.
So I don't know when he climbed onto the nearby sofa with Shasha on his back.
The snake's body was winding and lying on it, with its head resting on the armrest of the sofa, and its vertical pupils were half-closed.
As soon as Lin Yao's gaze came over, it quickly opened its eyes, looked at Lin Yao, and spit out its tongue twice.
Seeing Mo Yun like this, Lin Yao knew that Ye Heng's condition was now stable.
He slowly withdrew from Ye Heng's arms and moved his numb arms. His fingertips were still a little stiff.
He reached out and adjusted Ye Heng's position so that he could lie more comfortably, then carefully covered him with the blanket and tucked in the corners.
After doing all this, he stood up, touched Mo Yun's head, and flicked the leaves of Shasha: "Good morning."
Mo Yun spat out his tongue as a response.
Shasha moved the leaves left and right.
Lin Yao smiled, shook his head, and turned to wash up.
When he came out, Ye Heng was still unconscious. Perhaps he was really burdened with too many emotions.
He didn't bother her, but walked straight to the massage chair and lay down in it, pressing the start button to relieve the pain in his shoulders and neck.
Amid the low hum of the massage chair, not long after, there was a noise on the sofa.
Lin Yao turned his head and saw Ye Heng had already sat up, and his eyes inadvertently met Mo Yun's eyes on the armrest of the sofa.
The man and the snake looked at each other for a few seconds. Mo Yun blinked slowly, but Ye Heng's eyes were clear.
The next second, Ye Heng's eyes fell on the blanket on his body and he was stunned.
The fondant blanket was incredibly soft. He stared at it for a few seconds and muttered under his breath, "Does this blanket... taste sweet?"
Lin Yao listened in the massage chair and couldn't help laughing: "Do you want to try it?"
Ye Heng turned to look at him, a rare look of embarrassment on his face, and shook his head to express his indifference.
Lin Yao got off the massage chair and walked over to sit next to Ye Heng. "How do you feel? Are you feeling better?"
Ye Heng raised his eyes and looked at him. The haze in his eyes was gone, leaving only a clear smile: "Much better, thank you."
"Are you being so polite to me?" Lin Yao looked at me as if to say, "What are you talking about?"
"I must say this time, I won't do it again." Ye Heng explained solemnly.
Lin Yao didn't continue the conversation and walked towards the kitchen, saying, "There are toiletries in the bathroom. I'll go make breakfast. What do you want?"
"It's all fine." Ye Heng looked at his back with a smile on his face.
-
Delinwei's wedding was in the afternoon, at Delin's house.
This was also the first time that Lin Yao met his former fiancé Cangye, the real-life version.
Ye Heng watched him look at Cangye curiously, feeling a little jealous: "Is he really that good-looking?"
"No, I just thought his dress didn't fit him well."
Although Lin Yao's eyes were not sharp, he could still clearly feel that Cangye's wedding dress was a bit loose.
When Ye Heng heard this comment, he followed Lin Yao's gaze and discovered the truth: "Which company made these clothes? They're lightning-proof."
