Chapter 482 Zhong Lian'er's Choice

Last time Pei Zhi went to the imperial prison, she made Pei Jian faint from anger.

This time, Chang Qing brought Pei Jian to observe the ceremony, which angered Pei Jian so much that he vomited blood, much to Chang Qing's surprise.

“Why is it that you’re not just fainting but vomiting blood, Pei Jian? Your body isn’t strong enough,” Chang Qing said with a click of his tongue. “Even if you don’t do these harmful things, you won’t live long.”

Pei Jian was still able to stay conscious, but after hearing Chang Qing's words that he wouldn't live much longer, he fainted again.

"And this is supposed to be from a family of doctors? To me, they're not even as good as ordinary people."

"Guards, take him back to the prison."

Chang Qing took a few steps back in disgust. His mission was complete, and he didn't want to look at Pei Jian even once more.

After "sending off" Pei Jian, Chang Qing walked through the streets and alleys of the capital in a good mood, pondering how to get rid of the bad luck on his body.

Hey! I've got it!

Chang Qing took a detour and headed towards Ling Ku's residence.

"Ling Ku, what are you doing embroidering?!"

As soon as Chang Qing uttered his loud voice, Ling Ku was immediately startled and trembled. The embroidery needle pierced his flesh, and drops of blood seeped out.

"Chang Qing, could you please have someone announce your arrival before you come?"

Ling Ku put his finger in his mouth; the blood was like a tickle to him.

"Ling Ku, you're trying to pull this on me too?" Chang Qing plopped down on Ling Ku's bed. "What are you doing with that embroidery needle, you grown man? Is this a sandbag you've embroidered?"

"It's a purse."

"I've never seen such an ugly purse before," Chang Qing said, grinning. "If you carry this yourself, people will just laugh at you. If you give it away as a gift, you might make enemies."

"Is it really that ugly?" Upon hearing Chang Qing's words, Ling Ku was also a little uncertain, looking at the purse in his hand, "I think it looks quite nice."

"Ling Ku, you're not planning to give this to some girl, are you?"

Chang Qing's large face loomed large in front of Ling Ku. "You're quite the character, aren't you? You just rejected Miss Qin, and now you've found someone you like. Which family's daughter is she?"

How did you know I rejected Miss Qin?

Ling Ku's right eyelid twitched; he hadn't publicized this matter so openly.

"The Emperor and the Empress Dowager both said that Miss Qin should not hang herself on a crooked tree. It is not because Miss Qin is not good enough that you rejected her, General Ling. They also said that they would choose a husband for Miss Qin at Prince Chen's full moon banquet."

Every word Chang Qing uttered was like rubbing salt into Ling Ku's heart.

"No, she should now be called Princess Fuyun, Miss Qin."

Chang Qing shook his head at Ling Ku, thinking, "What an unlucky fellow."

"I heard that Princess Fuyun has been to the fabric shop a few times recently, probably to have some nice clothes made for His Highness Prince Chen's full moon banquet."

"Shut up!"

Ling Ku spoke with a dark expression, "Chang Qing, can you please shut your big mouth?"

"What did I say to offend you, Ling Ku? Don't think that just because you're lying in bed now, I won't dare to touch you." Chang Qing said as he reached out to grab Ling Ku, but paused when he saw Ling Ku's grief-stricken expression.

He spoke with some uncertainty, "Ling Ku, you wouldn't happen to have a crush on Princess Fuyun, would you?"

Seeing that Ling Ku remained silent, Chang Qing glanced at the strange-looking sandbag again. Good heavens, Ling Ku actually liked Princess Fu Yun.

"Then why did you reject that girl?"

"I was blinded by greed back then, thinking that Princess Fuyun could find a better husband." Ling Ku smiled bitterly. "Chang Qing, I was so stupid."

"You're really incredibly foolish. Princess Fuyun is good, but you, Lingku, are no less so. Why don't you just treat Princess Fuyun a thousand times better in the future? Why do you have to refuse her?"

"yes."

Seeing Ling Ku's miserable state, Chang Qing was too embarrassed to say anything unpleasant.

"So what do you plan to do now? Embroider a sandbag and give it to Princess Fuyun?" Chang Qing twitched his lips. "I think for now, you only have one way to try."

"What method?"

Ling Ku was so anxious that he actually asked Chang Qing for his opinion.

"Take good care of yourself, then attend Prince Chen's full moon banquet. If Princess Fuyun softens her heart and chooses you, won't you win the heart of the beauty?"

Is that all?

Ling Ku was somewhat stunned. He felt that something was not right. He had already rejected Miss Qin, so would Miss Qin still choose him as her husband?

"Yeah, just listen to me, you can't go wrong. Throw that sandbag as far as you can."

Half an hour later.

Chang Qing walked through the streets again, this time feeling refreshed and invigorated.

"General, you are the most experienced."

"What experience do I have?" Chang Qing tilted his head. "I have no experience."

So what you just did...

Looking into Chang Qing's eyes, the subordinate swallowed the words he wanted to say.

How could someone with no experience presume to instruct General Ling...?

......

The other half, the Zhong family.

"Second Miss, are you going out?" Since the Pei family's defeat and the unification of the world, Zhong Lian'er has almost never left her room. Even when Zhong Wuyi and Zhong Min came to invite her, she declined, saying she was not feeling well. She spent her days reading in her room.

But today, Zhong Lian'er suddenly ordered someone to do her hair and makeup.

"Yes, comb my hair and change my clothes."

Zhong Lian'er looked at herself in the bronze mirror. Her face was rosy and her teeth were white. A gilded hairpin was tied in her hair. She looked elegant and noble.

But for her, all of this was ultimately a pipe dream, something stolen.

Now that the Pei family has fallen and their master has been escorted to the capital, everything has changed in a short period of time.

What she found most unacceptable was that her master had done so many insidious things.

They poisoned the Empress Dowager with a curse, hoping to disrupt the Great Yu's unification of the world.

A bitter smile appeared on Zhong Lian'er's lips. Now, she had to make a choice.

"Miss, which dress would you like to wear?"

“Let’s wear the clothes I wore on the day I was added to the family register,” Zhong Lian’er said slowly. “Actually, I don’t look like my eldest sister at all, do I?”

The maid was at a loss for words after hearing this, and finally could only awkwardly say, "The eldest young lady is more lively, while the second young lady is relatively quiet."

"Yes, it's actually quite easy to tell them apart."

Upon hearing this, Zhong Lian'er pursed her lips and said, "Alright, let's go to the front yard to find Father and Eldest Brother."

Walking along the path, Zhong Lian'er's blood was boiling. She knew that the Zhong family father and son felt guilty towards Zhong Qi'er, which was why they treated her even better.

She was merely a pawn used by Zhong Qier, briefly enjoying familial affection on Zhong Qier's behalf.

But now, she can no longer stay in the Zhong residence with a clear conscience.

"Miss, we've arrived at the front yard."

Looking at the familiar courtyard before her, Zhong Qi'er finally took that step.
