Chapter 142 - Starlight
He kept talking, his voice not loud, but very clear in the silent square.
They talked about the trivialities of the sect, the changes in their companions, and the memories of the brief tranquility in Xingyun Pavilion...but they did not mention the door under the abyss, the out-of-control dragon evil, or the burning soul.
Chu Linyuan remained silent, kneeling cross-legged like an ice sculpture. But a faint, almost imperceptible light flickered across the cold scabbard of the Frost Silence Sword at his knees. His fingers, curled slightly at his sides, rested on the cold hilt.
Xie Zhao spoke for a long time, his voice gradually lowering, a hint of sleepiness in his voice. He hugged his knees, his head nodding slowly, and finally leaning against the cold rock. His breathing became even and long, and he actually fell asleep.
The night wind blew, carrying with it the chill of the abyss. Xie Zhao unconsciously shrank his neck.
Chu Linyuan, who had been keeping his eyes closed and regulating his breathing, slowly opened them. His cold gaze swept over Xie Zhao, who was curled up and sleeping not far away. Seeing him leaning uncomfortably against the rock, his brows furrowed slightly.
He stood up silently, his movements making no sound. His dark robes were like flowing shadows in the dim light of the talisman array. He walked over to Xie Zhao and looked down at him for a moment.
Finally, extremely slowly and with an almost rigid caution, he leaned down. His cold hands went around Xie Zhao's shoulders, back, and knees, and with a force that wouldn't wake him, he carefully lifted him up sideways.
Xie Zhao seemed to sense movement in his sleep, and hummed unconsciously. His head instinctively moved deeper into the embrace that carried the familiar cold and murderous aura, finding a more comfortable position, and his breathing became steady again.
Chu Linyuan's body froze instantly! The arm around Xie Zhao tightened for a moment like an iron hoop, then relaxed with great restraint. His cold face was expressionless, but under the dim light of the talisman array, a suspicious, faint blush shone from his ears. It was so fast that it seemed like an illusion.
He held Xie Zhao in his arms as if he were holding some fragile treasure, and walked with silent but steady steps towards the corner of the main hall covered with soft star-patterned straw mats.
He put the person down gently, and even pulled a fur blanket next to him and covered Xie Zhao with it in an awkward manner.
After doing all this, he quickly stood up and took two steps back as if he had completed some important task.
His cold eyes lingered on Xie Zhao's sleeping face for a moment, then he turned around without hesitation, strode back to his breathing position, sat cross-legged again, closed his eyes and entered into meditation.
Only this time, the blade of the Frost Silence Sword at his knees didn't seem so icy anymore. In the pocket on his chest, the Star Warm Sun Talisman, through the fabric of his clothes, emitted a faint but constant warmth.

In the corner of the main hall, Xie Zhao rolled over on his star-patterned straw mat, his animal-skin blanket half-slipping off. The faint light of the morning talisman array filtered through the crack in the hall door, illuminating his slightly disheveled hair and slightly furrowed brow. He smacked his lips and muttered unconsciously, "...Lamp oil...has gone up in price..."
At the palace gate, Chu Linyuan, sitting cross-legged like an ice sculpture, slowly opened his eyes. His cold gaze swept across the huddled figure in the corner, then fell on the slipping animal hide rug. He stood up silently, his black robe brushing against the cool ground without a sound.
Just as he leaned over and prepared to pick up the blanket—
"Wow! Family! See that! Xinghui! It's Xinghui!"
Su Tang's scream, which she tried to suppress but still couldn't hide her excitement, could be faintly heard from outside the hall, accompanied by the subtle buzzing sound of the photo stone being activated.
