Chapter 20 - Morning Light
The vortex of evil clouds above the Burial God Abyss seemed to have calmed down a little, the swirling blood-red color faded a little, and a few thin but real rays of morning light shone through.
Light filtered through the cracks in the ruined temple, casting mottled shadows on the ground covered with rubble and traces of battle.
Inside Guixu Sect, the air still carried a faint smell of blood and evil, but it was also filled with a strange tranquility and... a busy vitality.
Iron Ox stood out most prominently among the ruins. Bare-chested, his bronze skin glistening in the morning light. A hint of fresh blood still clung to the tips of his newly formed, thick horns, now serving as a perfect fulcrum for carrying the boulder.
He grunted as he carried a piece of broken wall half a man's height, and walked steadily towards the east wall of the courtyard that had collapsed due to the evil light column.
Every time he landed, the ground trembled slightly, but he controlled it perfectly, no longer stepping into deep pits like before. The transformation brought about by this time was not only reflected in his strength, but also in his control over strength.
"Brother Tie Niu, move a little further to the left... to the left!" Su Tang's clear voice rang out. She was carrying a relatively small piece of bluestone with fairly even edges. Her face was still a little pale, but her psychic eyes were astonishingly bright.
Deep within her pupils, the dark golden dragon shadow seemed to be asleep, leaving only tiny specks of starlight flickering, giving her a strange sense of clarity. She directed Iron Ox to adjust the position of the stones, striving for a perfect fit.
"Okay!" Tie Niu responded honestly and adjusted as he was told. When he looked at Su Tang, his eyes were filled with gratitude and fear. "Junior sister, are you...are you really okay? Are you still dizzy?" He asked awkwardly, his voice muffled.
"It's okay! Senior Sister Luo's soup is amazing!" Su Tang smiled and patted her chest, "I feel like I have more spiritual power than before!" As she spoke, her eyes inadvertently swept across a deep scar on Tie Niu's shoulder that was visible to the bone - it was left by the Silver Lock Guard.
Under her clairvoyant eyes, the trace of cold and soul-breaking power remaining deep in the wound was being slowly and steadily consumed by the brute force surging in Tie Niu's body.
Not far away, a white deer sat on a relatively clean rock, cradling the still-wandering Moon-Eating Rabbit. The deer lowered its head, its fingers gently combing through the rabbit's fur. The rabbit's ruby eyes half-closed, a subtle gurgling sound emanating from its throat, seemingly enjoying the experience.
Its body seemed to have grown larger, with a round belly. It would burp occasionally, emitting tiny spatial ripples - those were the spatial fragments that had not been completely digested after it forcibly swallowed the Silver Lock Guard.
Bai Xiaolu's complexion looked much better than before, but a trace of fatigue still lingered between her brows. She was connected to the Moon Devouring Rabbit's soul, and the rabbit's injury had shaken her soul considerably.
She occasionally raised her head, and her eyes would subconsciously drift towards Chu Linyuan's cave, with a hint of worry and dependence.
The stone door of the cave was tightly closed, but the ground in front of the door, which had been stained with blood, had been cleaned up, leaving only a shallow, indelible dark mark.
Uncle Chen's hunched figure was nearby, holding a broken broom, slowly and meticulously sweeping away the gravel and dust.
His movements were still clumsy, like a truly frail old man. The broom tip scraped across the ground, making a light rustling sound, the only strangely rhythmic background sound in this busy scene.
His cloudy old eyes occasionally lifted up, scanning the busy crowd, and then quickly dropped down, focusing on the small area in front of him that needed cleaning, as if that was his whole world.
There were clanging sounds coming from the kitchen. Luo Hongyi, with her sleeves rolled up, was cleaning the large earthenware pot that had been used to make the "Wanlong Soup."
At the bottom of the pot lay some solidified, gelatinous residue, resembling star fragments, emitting faint but pure energy fluctuations. Luo Hongyi carefully scraped it off with a jade spatula and placed it in a jade box.
Her movements were focused and serious, and her beautiful face was devoid of the usual laziness or playfulness, leaving only the rigor of an alchemist treating precious materials.
Occasionally, she would look up in the direction of Su Tang to confirm that her junior sister was indeed alive and well, and then the corners of her tense mouth would relax slightly.
The sun gradually rose higher, dispelling the morning chill and illuminating everyone's faces, exhausted from surviving the disaster and a sense of inexplicable cohesion. There were no words, only a tacit understanding of the busyness.
Stone after stone was piled up, crack after crack was filled. The black iron door frame still stood alone, but on the lintel, a deep claw mark left by the Moon Devouring Rabbit seemed to have become a new protective mark.
