Chapter 24 - Immortal Sect Competition
The fierce rain in the early morning was drizzling, carrying with it the cold and damp air unique to the God Burial Abyss.
Xie Zhao yawned, rubbed his still aching temple, and slowly emerged from the cave. Last night's silent "spying" had left him uneasy and he had barely slept.
He looked up and saw Chu Linyuan standing at the edge of the martial arts arena, practicing with his sword as usual. His Frost Silence Sword evoked an icy aura, but his movements remained precise and sharp, with no sign of any abnormality.
Xie Zhao seemed to be able to capture the trajectory of the red tassel under Chu Linyuan's black clothes swaying slightly with the sword's momentum. It seemed to be a little more conspicuous than usual?
Xie Zhao shook his head, dismissing this ridiculous thought. Perhaps he didn't sleep well last night and his eyes were blurry.
He was just about to stroll into the kitchen to see if there was any "surviving" breakfast, but out of the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of Uncle Chen's hunched figure, slowly sweeping the relatively flat open space in front of the main hall.
The broken broom rustled, gathering together the gravel and unknown dead leaves that had been blown down by the wind last night.
Suddenly, the tip of Uncle Chen's broom seemed to touch something, making a light "click" sound.
It was an extremely inconspicuous, muddy, gray cloth bag, about the size of a fist. It looked like garbage that had accidentally fallen from the claws of a flying bird, and was inconspicuous among the gravel and dead leaves.
Uncle Chen didn't even raise his cloudy old eyes, as if he had just seen a slightly larger stone.
He slowly and methodically used the tip of his broom to push the cloth bag into the small pile of garbage that had just gathered, his movements as natural as a daily cleaning routine.
However, at the moment when the broom tip moved the cloth bag——
An extremely weak, yet pure and majestic spiritual power fluctuation, like a small stone thrown into stagnant water, suddenly spread out from the inconspicuous cloth bag!
This spiritual power fluctuation was extremely special, carrying a sense of declaration and invitation, and instantly swept across the entire Guixu Sect!
Chu Linyuan, who was practicing sword, paused, and the Frost Sword hovered in the air. His cold eyes instantly locked onto the direction of the garbage dump!
Xie Zhao, who was rubbing his solar plexus, suddenly looked up, and a flash of talisman flashed in his eyes!
There was a "clang" sound coming from the kitchen, as if Luo Hongyi accidentally knocked something over!
Even Su Tang, who was sleeping curled up on a straw mat, was awakened. She sat up rubbing her eyes in a daze. Her psychic eyes opened instinctively, and stars flashed in her pupils. She instantly captured the energy source on the garbage dump that was wrapped in mud and water but exuded a strong "presence"!
"What is that?" Tie Niu was also startled and asked in a muffled voice, his huge body standing up from the shadow at the foot of the wall.
Uncle Chen seemed oblivious to all this. He continued to slowly push the cloth bag deeper into the garbage heap with the tip of his broom, and covered it with a large, wet leaf, muttering, "It's in the way... It's dirty..."
"Uncle Chen! Wait!" Xie Zhao rushed over without caring about the mud and water. He stretched out his hand to pull away the wet leaf and carefully picked up the dusty and wet small cloth bag from the garbage pile.
It felt heavy in the hand, made of ordinary material. Untying the rough knot, inside was a palm-sized hard object wrapped in high-quality waterproof spiritual silk.
Xie Zhao peeled off the spiritual silk in a few seconds, and the contents were exposed to everyone—
It was an extremely exquisite jade tablet, emitting a faint sandalwood fragrance! The edges of the jade tablet were inlaid with fine gold lines, and on the front, in extremely complex and gorgeous ancient seal script, four large gilded characters were engraved in a flamboyant manner:
**Immortal Sect Competition!**
Below the jade tablet, a line of small characters was engraved: "We sincerely invite fellow Daoists from Guixu Sect to join us in this grand event, to make friends through martial arts, and to achieve immortality together!"
The jade plate felt warm to the touch, and the large gilded characters still emitted an irresistible golden light that symbolized identity and status in the gloomy and rainy weather, forming an extremely absurd and glaring contrast with the dilapidated environment of Guixu Sect.
The entire Guixu Sect fell into a strange silence.
Tie Niu scratched his horns, bewildered. "Immortal… Immortal Sect Competition? Invite us?"
Su Tang opened her mouth into an "O" shape, and her psychic eyes scanned back and forth between the gorgeous jade plate and the dilapidated environment around it. Her expression was as if she had seen a rooster laying eggs.
The little white deer shrank back while holding the Moon-Eating Rabbit, who was awakened and looked unhappy.
Luo Hongyi leaned against the kitchen doorway, a hint of mockery on her beautiful face. "Heh, is the Immortal Alliance trying to... pay New Year's greetings to the chickens? Or do they think that our poverty-stricken appearance will only serve to highlight their own splendor?"
The Moon-Eating Rabbit stared at the golden jade plate with its ruby eyes, and a gurgling sound came from its throat. It seemed that the thing was... very rough on its teeth, but it also wanted to take a bite to test its hardness.
Chu Linyuan sheathed his sword and appeared beside Xie Zhao in a flash.
He glanced coldly at the dazzlingly gorgeous invitation letter without saying a word, but the aura around him became noticeably heavier, with an instinctive sense of vigilance and disgust.
The red tassels on his waist swayed gently with his movements, and against the backdrop of the luxurious jade plate, they looked even more simple and even shabby.
Xie Zhao held this heavy and hot "gold jade" in his hand with a wonderful expression.
From the initial shock, to the absurdity, to a hint of offended anger.
He looked up at Uncle Chen, who was slowly placing the wet leaf back on the garbage pile, as if he had just swept away an obstructing stone.
"Uncle Chen, where did you get this thing?" Xie Zhao shook the invitation letter in his hand.
Uncle Chen raised his cloudy old eyes, looked at the jade tablet that still gleamed in the rainy weather, then looked at Xie Zhao and said slowly, "The dirt that fell from the sky... is getting in the way of me sweeping the floor."
After saying that, he ignored it and continued to concentrate on cleaning the traces of mud and water next to the garbage dump.
Xie Zhao: "..." He looked at the luxurious invitation in his hand, which symbolized the top event of the immortal way, then looked at Uncle Chen's broken broom that was diligently sweeping up the mud and water, and finally looked around at the "sect" in front of his house, which only had a door frame but no door panel...
Xie Zhao couldn't help but laugh. It wasn't a happy laugh, but rather an infuriating laugh at the extreme contrast.
"Brother," he turned to look at Chu Linyuan, waving the golden invitation, his lips curled up in an extremely strange arc, full of sarcasm and a bit of resignation, "What do you think... should we go to the 'Guixu Sect'... or not?"
Chu Linyuan's gaze shifted from the gorgeous "Immortal Sect Competition" to Xie Zhao's face. He saw the absurdity and anger in Xie Zhao's eyes, as well as a hint of eagerness to stir up trouble hidden deep within.
Chu Linyuan didn't answer immediately. His fingertips, hidden by his unnoticed black sleeves, gently and habitually twirled the red tassel at his waist.
The cold touch came through the fingertips, carrying a familiar roughness and reality belonging to the "Guixu Sect".
He raised his eyes and looked at the blood-red vortex that was still rolling above the Burial God Abyss. In his eyes as cold as a pond, beneath the ice, it seemed that something that had been dormant for a long time was ignited by this sudden gold-plated invitation with the aura of the Immortal Alliance.
"Go." That cold word, like a sharp blade drawn from its sheath, cut off all hesitation and absurdity.
