Upon hearing this, my grandfather rushed in again, leaned close to look at my eyes, and his face showed a look of horror. He said in a trembling voice, "The eyes of the spirits, how could they be the eyes of the spirits?"
"Dad, what is the ability to see ghosts?" my dad asked anxiously.
"Quickly, use the door god paper to cover the child's eyes first, so that nothing outside can see them." After my grandfather finished speaking, he tore off the door god stickers from the door and handed them to my father.
My dad was so frightened that he lost his composure and hurriedly did as my grandfather had told him to do.
"Aunt Wang, something bad is about to happen to my family. You should go home first," my grandfather said urgently, taking out 20 yuan and putting it into Aunt Wang's hand.
Twenty yuan in 1999 was already quite a lot.
Aunt Wang seemed to sense that something was amiss at my house. She took the money and rushed home without lingering.
"Keep the child inside. We'll talk about Huihui's funeral arrangements at dawn." My grandfather said this, then turned and walked out. He stopped at the door and said without turning back, "If you see anything strange later, whip it with a willow branch. Make sure they don't get near the child."
After my dad blindfolded me, he blankly replied, "I know."
My grandfather came to the courtyard.
Just then, a gust of cold wind blew the courtyard gate open, followed by lightning in the sky. My grandfather saw a figure in white standing outside the gate, or rather, floating, because he couldn't see the feet or shoes.
"Hmph, what kind of monster are you, coming to my house to do whatever you want?" My grandfather sneered and cursed.
The white-haired figure had long hair that covered most of her face, revealing only half of her red lips. She said nothing, raised her finger and pointed to the inner room before slowly floating over.
Just as the figure in white was about to reach the door, a red light suddenly flashed from the black dog blood on the ground, illuminating her.
"Ughhhhh!"
The figure in white let out a strange cry, his hair instantly stood on end, and then vanished without a trace.
When her hair stood on end, my grandfather saw her terrifying face. Apart from the half of her lips that had been exposed before, the rest of her face was charred black and covered with maggots. One of her eye sockets was empty, looking like a black hole, while the other was full of black blood, with its eyeball burst out and hanging from a single tendon, swaying back and forth. It was truly horrifying.
"Hmph, a mere ghost who was burned alive dares to come and join the fun." My grandfather felt so disgusted that he wanted to vomit and shouted loudly.
"Hehe, what's inside? It smells so good, I really want to eat it."
Just then, a clear, old woman's voice came from outside the courtyard gate.
Suddenly, an old woman dressed in a red floral dress appeared at the doorway, holding a leg bone in her hand. She stuck out her scarlet tongue and licked her face, which was covered in lividity. Her dark eye sockets gleamed with a ghostly green light.
"Where did this crazy old woman come from? Does she want to be scared out of her wits?" My grandfather shouted, pointing at the old woman in the flowery clothes.
"Heh heh, old man, get out of my way, or I'll eat you up too." The old woman in the flowery clothes stuck out her foot-long scarlet tongue, pointing it straight at my grandfather, and made a ghostly sound.
"Hmph, so it's just a mindless brat who can't even smell my presence. No wonder he dares to come here to die." My grandfather sneered, completely ignoring the old woman and turning his gaze to the distance outside the door.
"Hehe, I'm going to suck you dry." The old woman in the flowery clothes floated over and stuck out her long tongue.
When she touched the black dog blood at the door, a wisp of green smoke rose from her body, and her figure slowly disappeared.
"Ah... what is this thing..." The old woman in the flowery clothes let out a scream, and then disappeared completely in a short while.
Just then, a rumbling sound came from afar, and my grandfather's brows furrowed.
A blood-red coffin scraped against the ground and moved quickly, blocking my yard entrance. The black dog blood on the ground squeaked when it touched the coffin and quickly evaporated.
"I smell food, it smells so good."
The coffin lid slowly opened a crack, and a dry, crackling sound came from inside.
"A thousand-year-old mummified corpse, why isn't it underground, why is it running out here to hang itself?" My grandfather started cursing at the coffin.
"Taoist priest, your place smells so good, is there something delicious inside?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the coffin lid suddenly flew off, and a withered body crawled out of the coffin. The body's clothes were tattered, and it was wearing a worn-out official hat. It looked like a human skeleton covered with a bluish-purple skin, which was quite terrifying.
"Go back and stay here. You won't find what you're looking for here," my grandfather shouted, slamming his staff heavily on the ground.
"Hehe, since we're already here, how can we be satisfied without going in and taking a look?"
"If you dare to step into this yard, I'll make sure you never get reincarnated."
"Taoist, I can sense that your Taoist skills are failing and you can't stop me," the thousand-year-old corpse said sinisterly.
"That's enough to deal with you."
My grandfather turned the compass in his hand upside down, and the mirror on the back immediately emitted a yellow light, shining directly onto the face of the thousand-year-old mummy.
"Squeak squeak squeak!"
"Ahhh!"
A large hole was burned through the face of the thousand-year-old mummy, from which wisps of blue smoke rose, revealing the stark white bones inside.
"Ah, I'm going to tear you apart!" The thousand-year-old mummified corpse let out a sharp roar and charged directly at my grandfather.
My grandfather took his staff and smashed it down on the mummified corpse's head.
The thousand-year-old mummy stretched out its white, bony hand, its long purple fingernails gleaming with a cold, eerie light, and grabbed at the staff that my grandfather was throwing at it.
Bang bang bang!
Several fingernails of the thousand-year-old mummy broke off, and my grandfather was also shaken and staggered backward, almost losing his balance, his breathing becoming disordered.
"Hehe, hand over what I want. You are no match for me." The thousand-year-old mummy chuckled softly, completely unconcerned about its broken fingernail.
My grandfather didn't say anything, but took out a red copper coin from his pocket and threw it at the thousand-year-old mummy.
When my grandfather pulled out the red copper coin, the thousand-year-old mummy shuddered and immediately turned to run away.
But it was too late. The red copper coin quickly hit him, and then the thousand-year-old mummy exploded.
My grandfather used his staff to prop up his weak body on the ground, panting heavily.
Just then, my dad's loud shout came from inside the room.
My grandfather dragged his heavy steps inside and saw that the window of the room was broken, and black figures were climbing in through the window.
The willow branch in my father's hand had already broken into several pieces, and he was holding me, huddled in a corner, trembling.
My grandfather took out several talismans from his body and threw them directly at the dark figure that had crawled in.
"Squeak squeak squeak!"
The talisman emitted wisps of green smoke upon contact with the dark figure, then vanished in the blink of an eye.
"Dad, why are these ghostly things coming to my house?" my dad asked in a trembling voice.
"They're here to find the child, or more accurately, to eat the child's eyes," my grandfather said grimly.
"Ah!" My dad's face turned pale, and he hurriedly asked, "Dad, what should we do now?"
