Chapter 145 Intense Longing

I stood at the gate of the courtyard until the receding figure in the night disappeared from my sight. I closed the gate and ran quickly to my room.

I sat down at my desk, reached out with trembling hands to pick up the worn-out envelope, and my heart immediately tightened.

I took a deep breath, gently opened the envelope, and took out two yellowed sheets of paper. What came into view were some densely packed characters, which I recognized as my grandfather's handwriting.

I picked up the first sheet of paper and began to read it carefully.

"Changming, my dear grandson, by the time you read this letter I left behind, tomorrow will be your birthday. I know you must have many questions, but I cannot tell you. Knowing some things might actually bring you danger. The truth, in fact, is not that important."

"Grandpa doesn't have any big wishes. He just hopes that you can live a good life. If possible, he hopes you can get married and have a son and a daughter, so that you can carry on the Zuo family line."

"Before I left, I calculated your fate again. If I'm not mistaken, you should be following my path. Actually, Grandpa really doesn't want you to follow my path. I just want you to live a peaceful and safe life."

"Following my old path, I am destined to face those demons and monsters, and will not have a good end."

"Alas... perhaps it was the fate of my Zuo clan. I didn't let your father follow my path back then, but he still left us too early. The cycle of heaven is inescapable, and no one can escape its judgment."

“But since you have embarked on this path, you must uphold your original intentions and never use Taoist magic to do anything immoral or immoral, otherwise even if I die, I will not find peace.”

"When you can help, do so. If you encounter danger, don't be a hero. Staying alive is the most important thing."

"Forget it, these are all things for later. Let's talk about your birthday tribulation. I can't predict your fate on your 24th birthday, just like I couldn't predict your 12th birthday. If you can't get through it, there's no point in saying anything more."

"But you don't need to worry too much. Grandpa has left you a backup plan. The Zuo family is not a group of just anyone who can mess with us."

"You must remember what I am about to say and do as I say. Whether you can get through it or not depends on your own fate."

After I finished reading the first page of the letter, tears started flowing uncontrollably.

"Grandpa," I called softly, a deep longing filling my heart.

I was supposed to have died long ago, but my grandfather raised me to this age. Even though he's gone now, he still cares about me.

That old man with his pipe warmed my entire childhood; until I was 12, my grandfather was my everything.

Although my parents have passed away and I am blind in one eye, I do not feel inferior because I still have my beloved grandfather.

Every time I came home from school, my grandfather would always cook my favorite dishes. I still remember his withered and rough hands. He would fan me until I fell asleep on summer nights and hold me in his arms to keep me warm on winter nights.

He gave me the best childhood and made up for the love that my parents lacked.

"Grandpa, your grandson misses you."

I murmured softly and closed my eyes in anguish.

After a long while, I wiped away my tears with the back of my hand, my eyes hardening. No matter what, I had to survive, because there were still many things waiting for me to do.

Even if God wanted my life, He would still have to ask me if I would agree.

I gently put down the letter in my hand and picked up the second letter.
