In my haste, I couldn't even kick open this seemingly simple wooden door; instead, the impact sent me staggering back two steps.
Um?
I frowned because I suddenly felt a chilling aura emanating from the door.
My face was very pale. I rushed forward again and kicked the courtyard gate. This time, I had added my magic power to the kick.
With a loud bang.
I kicked down the gate and rushed inside, yelling, "Tong Liu, where are you?"
I waited for a while but didn't hear a reply from Bucket Six.
My heart sank to the bottom. Was I too late? Had Bucket Six already met with misfortune?
Just then, I heard a sinister laugh, "Heh heh, another one coming to die."
"What are you? What have you done to my brother?" I looked around, but the only light source in the courtyard was the candle on the ground. The candle flame was a ghostly blue, adding a touch of eeriness to the already dark environment, making it even more eerie.
"Hehe, guess?" That sinister voice echoed from all around again.
I couldn't tell if this filthy thing was male or female, but all I wanted to know at that moment was how Bucket Six was doing. I roared, "You hiding thing, come out and talk!"
"Don't rush, how about we play a game? If you can find me, I'll tell you where that big oaf is." The sinister voice rang out again.
I had already secretly reached into my bag and grabbed a revealing talisman, but I couldn't sense the location of the dirty thing yet, so I didn't act rashly.
With my other hand, I took out my phone, turned on the light, and slowly walked forward, mentally preparing myself so that if I spotted that evil thing, I could instantly throw the revealing talisman at it.
"Young man, I'm right behind you!"
Just then, I heard a sinister voice coming from behind me, very close, as if it were speaking right next to my ear.
I turned around abruptly and used my phone to take a picture, but there was nothing there, not even the courtyard gate I had entered through.
"Hehe, this is fun, this is fun. If you can't find me, you'll end up like that big oaf." The sinister voice rang out again.
I frowned. If I wasn't mistaken, I was now trapped in a maze of ghosts. This filthy thing shouldn't be a vengeful ghost; it was just an ordinary yin spirit. But I had carelessly barged in like this, which was why I fell into its trap.
I kept walking forward with my phone on my head, but after a while, I found myself back in the same place.
Unfortunately, my strength is still too low to open my Dharma Eye, otherwise I wouldn't be trapped in this ghost wall.
"Do you have a grudge against this family? Why are you trying to harm them?" Seeing that I couldn't find a solution for the time being, I decided to try communicating with the evil spirit to see if I could persuade it to leave.
"Hehe, it's more than just a grudge, I wish their whole family would die."
"Since I can't run away now anyway, why don't you tell me, where did this hatred come from?"
After a long silence, a sinister voice finally broke the silence, "I was seriously ill before I died, and I came to this family to borrow money for medical treatment, but they refused to lend me any money, which led to my death at home. No one even buried my body. Would you say that's a great grudge?"
"Are you related to this family? Or do they owe you something?" I asked.
"Even if they aren't relatives, even if they don't owe me anything, they shouldn't just stand by and watch an elderly person die of illness." The sinister voice grew agitated.
My face darkened. What kind of logic is this? Why would someone lend you money when you're not related to them?
"What you're doing is unreasonable. How about this, you release them, and I'll send you to be reincarnated in peace, so you can be a good person in your next life. What do you think?" I had already thought of a way to deal with this evil thing, but if Tong Liu and the others hadn't been killed, I didn't want to beat this evil thing to a pulp.
"Impossible. I want this family to suffer a fate worse than death, to live in constant turmoil."
"So there's no room for negotiation?"
"Talk my ass, you're an accomplice too, you'll die just the same."
"Hehe." I suddenly laughed and said loudly, "Why would someone who has no relation to you lend you money for medical treatment? If it's a terminal illness that can't be cured, then lending you the money would just be throwing money down the drain. Tell me, if you were in their shoes, would you lend it to them?"
"You're talking nonsense! They're just letting me die. They clearly have money to treat my illness, but they just won't lend it to me." The sinister voice turned agitated.
"Heh, you think I have to lend you money just because you have it? Why should I? If it were me, I wouldn't lend it to you either," I said with a sneer, while secretly taking out the revealing talisman.
"You'll all die if you don't lend it to me, you'll all die," the sinister voice roared.
I closed my eyes and carefully sensed the source of the violent fluctuations in Yin energy. Then I suddenly opened my eyes. Now was the time! I flicked my wrist, and the manifestation talisman in my hand shot out in one direction.
I looked closely and saw a hunched old man standing not far to my left.
The old man looked extremely terrifying. His eyeballs were gone, leaving only two dark eye sockets. His skin was bluish-purple, his face was covered with lividity and was beginning to swell. He had very few strands of white hair left, and his lips were gone, leaving only a few large yellow teeth.
He was wearing a worn-out gray overcoat and a pair of tattered canvas shoes.
I felt nauseous when I saw the old man's appearance, but I forced myself to endure it and slowly said, "Old man, I can give you a chance. Remove this ghost wall, then let this family and my friend go. I can forgive what you did before and send you to be reincarnated."
This old man is just an ordinary ghost. Apart from scaring people, he doesn't have the ability to kill. So I guess that Tong Liu is not in danger yet. He is probably trapped somewhere or has been scared unconscious.
"You're dreaming," the old man replied ominously, then, perhaps noticing that I was staring straight at him, he quickly moved a few meters to the left.
My gaze followed the old man's movement, and I said, "Stop hiding, I've already seen you."
"You're talking nonsense." The old man thought I was bluffing him, so he quickly moved another ten meters to the right.
I kept my eyes fixed on the direction the old man was moving and described what he looked like.
"Ahhh, I'm going to kill you!" the old man suddenly yelled, charging at me with his terrifying head baring its fangs and claws.
