Tonight, so many things have shocked me. The person standing in front of me right now, who took Liu Yong's attack for me, is none other than the old woman who runs the incense and paper shop near the Great Emperor Temple.
I originally thought that Granny Ku was only good at reading faces, but I didn't expect her strength to be so great that she could even block Liu Yong's attack.
"Isn't that surprising?" Granny Ku asked with a smile.
I made no attempt to hide the shock on my face, gave a wry smile, and said softly, "It's quite unexpected."
At this point, I also remembered the story of that knife. Perhaps the story of that knife was just made up by the old woman herself. She and my grandfather must have known each other. The reason she sold the knife to me might have been arranged by my grandfather, or perhaps she knew that I was in trouble, so she gave it to me.
“I know you have many questions, but now is not the time. I will tell you slowly after these things are resolved,” Granny Ku gave me a kind smile, then turned to face Liu Yong.
"Are you the masked man from ten years ago?" Liu Yong stared intently at the old woman, his face grim.
“Yes, it’s me.” The old woman also looked solemn.
"Alright, alright, now that you've shown up, don't go back tonight." Liu Yong said "alright" three times in a row, his eyes practically spitting fire.
"Hmph, who lives and who dies is still uncertain," Granny Ku sneered, and continued, "This place is too small, let's go outside and settle this once and for all."
After saying that, the old woman walked towards the door. After taking a few steps, she turned back to look at me and said, "Changming, be careful. That little knife is quite good."
Liu Yong nodded to Deng Xiaohong and followed the old woman outside.
Deng Xiaohong's annoying smile returned, and he chuckled, "Zuo Changming, things are back to square one. You're no match for me. Hand over the stuff and I might give you a quick death."
"What's the point of all this nonsense? Bring it on!" I roared and lunged at Deng Xiaohong.
I wanted to strike first. I was no match for Deng Xiaohong to begin with, and I was already injured. I couldn't think of any good way to win except to take her by surprise.
My punch, delivered with all my might, failed to hit Deng Xiaohong; she easily dodged it.
"Zuo Changming, I advise you not to struggle anymore." Deng Xiaohong looked at me with disdain.
"You're not even human, are you?" I thought of the unrelated words that Granny Ku had said before she left, and the eerie aura I felt from Deng Xiaohong, and asked.
After asking the question, I kept staring intently at Deng Xiaohong.
"What nonsense are you talking about? What am I if not a human being?" Deng Xiaohong suddenly retorted vehemently.
Although Deng Xiaohong reacted quickly, I still saw a fleeting look of panic in his eyes, which confirmed my suspicion that Deng Xiaohong was indeed not a normal person.
"You know perfectly well whether it's true or not," I said calmly, turning to the side and reaching into my bag to grasp the small knife.
But Deng Xiaohong seemed to have noticed my suspicious movements. He took a step forward and slapped me on the shoulder. I couldn't dodge and was sent flying by his palm, falling heavily to the ground.
I struggled to my feet. I hadn't expected Deng Xiaohong to be so cautious. My attack hadn't done him any harm; instead, it had put me in a desperate situation. From the way Deng Xiaohong looked at me, I knew he had lost patience.
"Since you refuse to hand it over, I'll have no choice but to kill you and search for it slowly." A cold glint flashed across Deng Xiaohong's face as she moved closer to me.
I have lost my fighting ability and become a fish on a chopping board to be slaughtered at will, with no way to resist.
"Die." Deng Xiaohong didn't give me a chance to speak. She pulled a dagger from her waist and stabbed it fiercely into my heart.
"stop."
Just then, I heard a gasp.
