Time flies, and before I knew it, it was the day before my birthday, which was the thirteenth day of the seventh lunar month.
For the past ten days or so, everything has been peaceful, nothing has happened, and we haven't encountered anything unclean.
But somehow, I felt like this was the calm before the storm, as if something bad was about to happen.
Today, after I finished delivering all the packages, it was already past 2 PM. I plan to ask Huang Haitao for leave so I won't have to work tomorrow.
I dialed Huang Haitao's number and said, "Mr. Huang, I would like to ask for a day off tomorrow."
"Changming, you can take leave if you want. Xiao Deng has recovered from his injury and can come to work tomorrow," Huang Haitao said on the phone.
"Okay, then I'll ask for a day off."
"good."
After hanging up the phone, I rode my electric bike to buy some things. Last night, I had reached the entry level in my practice of the Three Pure Ones Supreme Technique, but I was out of talismans, so I thought I'd go shopping and see if there was anything else I wanted to buy.
I went to the old woman's incense and paper shop, parked my cart, and went inside.
"Hey, young man, what are you looking to buy this time?" Granny Ku greeted me with a smile.
"Give me some good quality yellow paper, I'll just look at the rest," I said.
“Okay.” The old woman nodded and walked into the inner room.
I browsed around casually, but didn't see anything I needed.
The old woman handed me the yellow paper, I paid for it, and just as I was about to leave, she suddenly called out to me.
"Is there something you need?" I asked, puzzled.
The old woman stared at me for a long time, her brows furrowing slightly, as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.
"Grandma, what's wrong?" My heart skipped a beat for no reason, and I asked.
"Young man, there are some things I'm not sure if I should say?" After a moment of silence, the old woman finally spoke.
"Grandma, it's alright, just say what you want to say." I was itching to know what was going on with Grandma Ku's antics, and judging from her expression, it wasn't anything good. I also wanted to know if she had figured something out.
“Young man, I have a feeling you’re in danger these next few days,” the old woman said quietly.
"What danger?" I was startled. Could this old woman be good at fortune telling?
"I don't know, it must be a major catastrophe."
"Grandma, do you have a solution?" I pressed.
"No, I learned some face reading from someone before, but I don't know how accurate it is. Don't blame this old woman for being nosy, but you should still be careful lately," the old woman said slowly.
"Yes, I know."
On the way back, the old woman's words kept echoing in my mind. Was the great terror she mentioned something that was going to happen on my birthday?
Thinking about it again and again was of no use, so I shook my head and put these troubling thoughts to the back of my mind.
What is meant to be will be.
When I got home, I went straight to my room and turned on my computer.
Now that my magical power has increased, I can try to see if I can draw a basic talisman.
Having experienced the events involving the red-clothed female ghost and the corpse demon, I feel that those extermination talismans are no longer of any use.
No matter what I face tomorrow night, I will do my best to prepare.
I opened the file about talismans and started studying the basic talismans. Although my grandfather had taught me to draw them before, drawing with a pen and drawing with magic are two different things.
I was busy until evening, and I drew two basic spirit talismans: a cloud fire talisman and a lightning strike talisman.
The Cloud Fire Talisman, as its name suggests, will form a ball of flame when triggered. This is no ordinary flame, but a special flame that can even burn ghosts. Even a vengeful spirit that touches it will be annihilated.
As for the lightning strike talisman, its effect is basically the same; it will generate lightning attacks when it comes into contact with something dirty.
Of course, these talismans can only deal with evil spirits; if you stick them on someone else, they won't trigger anything.
Sweating profusely, I looked at the two magical talismans flowing in my hand and a happy smile appeared on my face.
I've already exhausted my magical power twice in order to draw these two talismans. I don't plan to draw any more talismans tonight; I'll focus on cultivating the Three Pure Ones Supreme Technique.
"Beep beep beep!"
Just then, there was a knock on the courtyard gate.
"Who is it?" I asked as I left the room and walked towards the courtyard gate.
"It's me." An old voice came from outside the door.
When I opened the door, I saw an old man standing outside, holding a pipe in his hand.
"village head?"
