Wang Yong turned and glanced at me, puzzled. "Master Zuo, is there something wrong?"
"Brother Wang, is the person knocking on the door human?" I stood up and walked over with a serious expression.
"What?" Wang Yong was startled, his face changed drastically, and he hurriedly walked back.
"Who are you?" I called out towards the door.
There was no answer from outside the door, and after a while, there was a knocking sound.
"Master Zuo, what do we do now?" Wang Yong asked in terror, his whole body trembling.
"It's alright, I'll go check it out first," I reassured Wang Yong, and continued walking towards the door.
The door to Wang Yong's residence was made of multi-layered plywood with a two-inch gap at the bottom. I went to the door, lay down, and peered through the gap.
I don't know what's coming, and Wang Yong is still here, so I'm doing this just to be on the safe side.
From my perspective, there was nothing outside the door. I waited for a while but still didn't see anything. Just as I was about to stand up, suddenly, I saw a pair of embroidered shoes in front of me, followed by a knock on the door.
My expression changed drastically. Could it be that the thing that came was really that old woman who had been buried?
I carefully stood up and reached into my bag to grab a ghost-fixing talisman.
After the knocking, there was silence outside the door again. I turned around and glanced at Wang Yong, gesturing for him to be quiet.
I gently gripped the doorknob with one hand, while tightly holding the ghost-suppressing talisman with the other.
After a while, the knocking sounded again. I gritted my teeth, quickly opened the door, and threw out a ghost-suppressing talisman.
To my surprise, there was nothing outside the door, and my ghost-fixing talisman had fallen to the ground not far away.
Wang Yong mustered his courage and leaned closer, asking in a low voice, "Master Zuo, did you catch that thing?"
I shook my head and said softly, "No, I didn't find anything when I opened the door."
Just then, a clucking sound came from the chicken coop.
"Oh no, my chickens!" Wang Yong shouted and hurriedly ran outside.
I ran out after him.
Wang Yong looked rather weak, and his steps were unsteady as he ran, but for the sake of his chickens, he still disregarded the danger and ran over.
When we arrived at the chicken coop, the chickens were pacing around in a panic.
Strangely, I didn't see the old woman.
Wang Yong went to check the chicken coop, but still found nothing.
"Master Zuo, what do we do now?" Wang Yong came up to me and asked in a low voice.
I looked the chicken coop over carefully for a few moments and said softly, "I didn't see that thing, so there's nothing I can do about it."
"Then I'll go back first," Wang Yong said softly, glancing at the chicken coop once more.
"Okay." I nodded, and Wang Yong and I turned to walk towards our residence.
But just then, the chickens in the coop started to stir again.
Wang Yong and I turned around abruptly, but still found nothing.
Undeterred, Wang Yong went back into the chicken coop and inspected every corner.
"Did you find anything?" I leaned closer and asked.
I carefully sensed my surroundings but did not detect any yin energy.
"No," Wang Yong said indifferently without turning his head.
Um?
Suddenly, I smelled a strong fishy odor, as if the smell was right behind me, and at that moment, the chickens in the chicken farm started to stir again.
I turned around abruptly, and my expression immediately changed drastically.
"A ghost!" Just then, Wang Yong suddenly shouted.
