Chapter 138 Something's Wrong in the Sky

After the old passengers, it's time for the new passengers.

Everyone quietly walked up to Mo Shuwan in order, took the pen and paper, and wrote down their personal information on the brand new paper from Xiao Zhang.

It was half an hour later when everyone finished writing.

Wen Zuo: No abnormalities have been found so far.

Knowing that Wen Zuo was referring to the passengers' emotions and expressions when they arrived, Mo Shuwan nodded, took half of the papers filled with writing, and handed them to Wen Zuo, frowning as she read through them one by one.

Because of safety concerns, Mo Shuwan and Wen Zuo dared not be careless at all. The two carefully read the notes twice, and finally picked out a few notes, while the rest were temporarily put into storage space.

"From now on, no one is allowed to act alone."

The passengers nodded hurriedly. They knew this without Mo Shuwan saying it. Acting alone at a time like this was tantamount to courting death.

Mo Shuwan held the list of suspicious items that she and Wen Zuo had picked out together. After looking at the names written on it, she hesitated for a long time before deciding to call these people over for questioning.

The passengers whose names were called were stunned. They stood up shakily, their faces full of fear, and said that they really didn't know anything.

"Don't be nervous, I'll just ask a few questions."

Six people in total cautiously approached Mo Shuwan and Wen Zuo. At their prompting, the six people nervously squatted down in front of them. At this moment, Mo Shuwan held up a piece of paper and asked, "Who is Jin Chao?"

The young man squatting in the middle raised his hand tremblingly, "I am." He paused, then quickly explained, "Captain, I really don't know anything. You've asked the wrong person."

"How do you know I asked the wrong person before I even asked you a question?"

Mo Shuwan's casual words startled Jin Chao so much that he dared not say another word, shrinking his neck and looking like he was about to cry.

Jin Chao was chosen by Wen Zuo. The reason he was chosen was because Jin Chao not only wrote a long and rambling statement to prove himself, but also wrote down some unusual sounds that Wen Zuo had heard at the time.

"You said you heard a scream at the time."

Jin Chao nodded.

"Then why didn't you say so earlier?"

Jin Chao didn't dare to meet Mo Shuwan's eyes, and quickly turned his head away, saying with a troubled expression, "Captain, it's not that I don't want to say, it's just that I'm not sure myself."

Mo Shuwan looked at him with a half-smile, "Aren't you sure?"

"Didn't you say that we should treat all situations as the worst possible outcome..." Jin Chao muttered a defense of himself before revealing his reason for uncertainty, "Because I realized that no one else seemed to hear that sound except me. I thought I was just imagining things because I was too scared, so I didn't take it to heart."

After Jin Chao finished speaking, the passengers who had just felt a sense of security immediately felt as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over their heads, chilling them to the bone.

This must be some kind of supernatural world!

Just as the passengers were lost in thought, Wen Zuo, who was sitting quietly next to Mo Shuwan, suddenly took out a Demon-Sensing Talisman from his storage space. The temperature of the Demon-Sensing Talisman was normal when touched by his fingertips. If the talisman hadn't already left, it could only mean that the enemy this time had nothing to do with demons.

Although Mo Shuwan also felt uncomfortable at this moment, she forced herself to calm down and continued to ask the next question, "When did you hear it?"

Jin Chao glanced at Mo Shuwan's face and, seeing that she didn't seem to suspect him, felt relieved and obediently replied, "When the captain suddenly shone a flashlight on a place, no, no, even before that, I reacted as soon as I heard it."

Mo Shuwan's face was grim.

So, does that mean the enemy took the passengers away right under their noses?

Of course, this is just a guess, because it is still unknown whether Jin Chao's words are true or false. What Mo Shuwan and Wen Zuo are more concerned about is that they checked the vicinity half an hour ago and the drag mark was no more than three meters long before it disappeared into thin air.

Mo Shuwan asked the other five people one by one, but unfortunately she didn't get any useful information from them.

It is exactly 8:00 AM.

The darkness finally began to recede, and a glimmer of light appeared on the horizon, but it was quickly covered by something.

Mo Shuwan looked up at the spot where the light had disappeared, her brows furrowed.

Just now, I felt like I saw something?

Wen Zuo got up and walked to Mo Shuwan's side, handing her a strawberry-flavored lollipop. Mo Shuwan took it with a worried look, tore open the wrapper and put it in her mouth. The sweetness spread in her mouth, but her worries did not lessen at all. "Look at the sky. I felt something was wrong from the beginning. The sky doesn't seem as dark as before. Is it just my imagination?"

Wen Zuo shook his head and lowered his head to type.

Mo Shuwan's phone vibrated slightly, and she looked down to open the message sent by Wen Zuo.

Wen Zuo: It's not my imagination. Something's not right in the sky since it got light a little while ago.

Mo Shuwan, with a lollipop in her mouth, turned to look at Wen Zuo and asked, "You think so too?"

Wen Zuo nodded.

Even though they sensed something was wrong, the two were helpless. Leaving was impossible; their future was uncertain, and they didn't know when the darkness would dissipate. The unknown monsters lurking in the shadows had already attacked them, so setting off now was definitely not a good time.

Many of the passengers, who had not been able to drink water for two days and two nights, were pale and uncomfortable. The dryness in their throats made them reach out to pick at their throats. The spring water that Mo Shuwan and Wen Zuo had collected on their way back had also run out. They were now facing a shortage of food and water.

Time passed slowly, and the temperature gradually rose. The passengers, their faces flushed red from the heat, retreated one after another. But with fires all around them, there was nowhere to retreat, and they were all sweating profusely from the heat.

"Captain, let's take these fires away. People will really die if we keep them burning."

Mo Shuwan glanced at the time; it was 11:23. "Let's move on, but keep the middle ones."

The passengers hurriedly buried the fire with mud, which finally made them feel a little better. However, they were already dehydrated and had been roasted for so long that some of them were so hot that they were weak in the hands and feet and collapsed on the ground, not wanting to move a single finger.

Mo Shuwan and Wen Zuo were no exception; both of them were covered in sweat, their throats were burning, and they were extremely dehydrated.

"Captain, this can't go on. We'll either die of thirst or starvation."

Cai Zhongqi, also panting, chimed in, "Let's go find some water."

Mo Shuwan shook her head. "The crisis is not over yet."

Before Cai Zhongqi could speak, Lu Xingkai, who was sitting next to him, suddenly flew into a rage and slammed down the tree branch in his hand. "What can we do? We can't just stay here and starve to death! You're the captain, so you have to find a way. Are the team members just going to starve to death if they follow you?"

Faced with Lu Xingkai's questioning, Mo Shuwan only found it amusing and ignored the already agitated Lu Xingkai, saying, "Wen Zuo and I are going out for a bit."
