Digging traps wouldn't be of much help to Mo Shuwan, Wen Zuo, Liu Dongcheng, and Cai Zhongqi, who were skilled and armed. The main need was for the unarmed passengers. The passengers, of course, had no objections to the traps designed to serve them. After Wen Zuo explained the situation, they immediately went to find some thicker tree branches, sharpened the ends, and started digging from the nearest spot.
Mo Shuwan and the others didn't sit idle either. They joined in to help dig. Everyone was full of energy and soon they used simple tools to dig a pit that was about one meter in diameter and as deep as an adult's arm.
It wasn't until after 11 p.m. that everyone finally managed to dig the first pit together. It wasn't particularly big, but it was enough to keep any dinosaur, regardless of its size, temporarily trapped.
Mo Shuwan surveyed the trap with satisfaction. Seeing that the time was almost up, she discarded the tools and called out, "Go wash your hands first. If you have blisters, tear them open and come here to get medicine."
The passengers, who had been trying to tough it out, were immediately delighted and ran to the riverbank to wash their hands carefully. The river water was quite cool at night, and the sensation of their burning hands touching the cold water was indescribable.
After washing their hands, the passengers lined up conscientiously to get their medicine from Mo Shuwan.
The powder was carefully sprinkled onto the areas where the skin was broken, blistered, or had just been torn. The medicine took effect quickly, and the passengers, no longer tormented by pain, split into two groups: one to keep watch and the other to rest.
After calming the passengers down, Wen Zuo, who had been silently watching over them, immediately grabbed Mo Shuwan's wrist and led her to the riverbank. When he saw the cuts and bruises on her palm, his brows furrowed deeply.
"It's nothing serious, we'll just apply some medicine later."
She was about to bend down to wash her hands when Wen Zuo stopped her before she could even move. Wen Zuo then carefully washed her hands. When the cold water touched her wound, she couldn't help but gasp. She instinctively tried to pull her hand back, but Wen Zuo held it firmly until her hands were completely clean before letting go.
"You don't have any?"
Wen Zuo carefully applied medicine to Mo Shuwan's wounds before looking up at her and silently saying, "I have thick skin."
"Let me see." With that, Mo Shuwan grabbed Wen Zuo's hand and pulled it in front of her, pinching his fingers and looking down as if she was seriously observing whether his palm was really as thick-skinned as he had said.
Wen Zuo was too embarrassed to move, letting Mo Shuwan hold him until she tickled his palm with her fingers, at which point he pulled back because he felt itchy.
Mo Shuwan said in a serious tone, "Yes, I touched it, it's quite thick." As she spoke, she poked the callus on Wen's left palm.
Wen Zuo was startled and embarrassedly put his hand behind his back, then quietly clenched it again. Meanwhile, Mo Shuwan sighed and started brushing her teeth, saying indistinctly, "There are thirteen days left. There are exactly thirteen of us. Although I don't want to say anything discouraging, the coincidence of this number is quite unsettling."
Wen Zuo stretched one hand into the water and wrote characters on the surface of the water, stroke by stroke.
—Everyone will be able to return home safely.
Mo Shuwan didn't understand it, but she could guess a little. She rinsed the foam out of her mouth and said in a low voice, "There are too many secrets in this world. Just the mysteries we've encountered these past few days, none of them are things we can handle."
This time, Wen Zuo wanted to express his thoughts, but he definitely couldn't write on the water. He turned his head and saw Mo Shuwan washing her face. After thinking for a moment, he also brushed his teeth and washed his face first, and then the two of them left the water's edge together.
Upon reaching the area illuminated by the firelight, Wen Zuo took out paper and pen.
—We're only at the difficulty level of the fourth mission world. Even if there are many secrets, they're irrelevant to us.
Mo Shuwan stared blankly at Wen Zuo's handwriting.
—Perhaps there is a force we don't know that is binding these monsters, just like the passenger who disappeared that day. Perhaps the monster that took him away wasn't weak, but rather its power was being bound and controlled to a level we can manage.
“You’re right.” Mo Shuwan thought about her experiences over the past few days. There had indeed been deadly crises that were completely unmanageable, like the five passengers who were absorbed into the ground and turned into blood that day. Those of them who were outside the area were all safe.
"Just like the monster you and Liu Dongcheng encountered a few days ago, someone thought you couldn't handle it, so it couldn't escape, and after you ran away, they dragged the monster underground."
Wen Zuo nodded; that was indeed his guess.
But what the truth is, and whether it is really as they guessed, remains unknown.
Mo Shuwan's pessimistic mood was greatly soothed by Wen Zuo's reasonable analysis. She smiled and nodded, "Yes, this is only the difficulty of the fourth mission world. There shouldn't be any threats that we can't handle at all. Judging from the previous mission worlds, Bus follows this rule very well."
Just like the first mission world, looking back now, the difficulty was really, really low. You could have survived peacefully simply by relying on your intelligence.
...
Day and night alternate, and the gears of time never stop turning. Before they knew it, Mo Shuwan and her companions had been in this mission world for twenty-five days. Fortunately, since they found the water source, only one passenger has died.
Beside the stream were mountains of dinosaur and plant carcasses, emitting a foul stench. In this appalling environment, twelve people went in and out every day.
Cai Zhongqi, who had plugged his nose with wood, washed the small stone that he had finally managed to drill out to thread a rope through, and approached Mo Shuwan with an embarrassed look. "Captain, I have something else I need you to help me put away."
"Is this for your wife again?"
Cai Zhongqi nodded sheepishly.
Mo Shuwan smiled, reached out and took the small stone. She examined it closely and found that although the workmanship was a bit rough, the small stone was still pretty and quite unique. "If we stay a little longer, you'll have to move everything out of here."
What was originally just a casual joke suddenly made Cai Zhongqi tense up. "Captain, have I caused you any trouble?"
Mo Shuwan said helplessly, "No, I have six cubic meters of space to exchange for. You only put such a small amount of things in there, how could it be troublesome?"
Cai Zhongqi breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good. Captain, I'll go check on the eggs." After Mo Shuwan nodded, he turned and left, but after taking a few steps, he suddenly came back mysteriously. "Captain, do you want a leaf skirt?"
Seeing Cai Zhongqi deliberately sway his hips to show off the leaf-shaped skirt around his waist, Mo Shuwan remained silent for a few seconds, then said, "I don't need it."
"Are you embarrassed? It's okay. Everyone except you and Wen Zuo is wearing leaf skirts now, so there's nothing to be embarrassed about."
"I really don't need it, I can still wear my clothes." Mo Shuwan shook her head firmly.
