Chapter 278 The Monster Left the Oasis

Mo Shuwan picked up the fire-attribute longsword, squatted down and tested the temperature of the sand with her hand. Finding it still very hot, she turned around and walked to Wen Zuo's side, squatting down beside him and watching him eat.

Wen Zuo handed her the bread.

Mo Shuwan shook her head. "I just woke up and don't have much of an appetite yet. You eat first, and I'll eat when I get hungry later."

Wen Zuo didn't force her to eat. Hearing this, he continued eating on his own. When he had almost finished eating, Mo Shuwan took out the milk that had been buried in the sand and handed it to him. The temperature was just right, and it felt very comfortable to drink.

—I'm going to sleep now.

"Okay, you should go to sleep."

Wen Zuo reached out and brushed away the words on the ground, then lay down in the sandpit where Mo Shuwan had lain before, and fell asleep in less than two minutes after closing his eyes.

Still feeling a bit disoriented after climbing out of the warm sandpit, Chen Jiaxu slumped onto the sand pile and sighed with relief, muttering, "That's more like it. Last night really looked like we were arguing."

Seeing that Wen Zuo and Mo Shuwan's relationship had returned to normal, Chen Jiaxu felt much more energetic. He patted his face hard, trying to wake himself up as soon as possible.

Seeing Wen Zuo asleep, Mo Shuwan reached out and placed the still-sleeping Hope and Stratosphere on either side of his head before taking out the map and examining it carefully. Her expression immediately changed drastically.

The red dot representing the monster has moved!

They left the oasis!!!

Mo Shuwan was shocked, and the fingers holding the map tightened slightly. She quickly looked at the whole map and finally saw the red dot in the middle of an oasis, which was much farther away from their current location.

Mo Shuwan breathed a sigh of relief and raised her hand to wipe the fine sweat from her forehead.

A dozen minutes later, after heating the sand, Mo Shuwan went to a more distant place to wash her face and brush her teeth, and then walked around the area where they were resting.

Seeing that Mo Shuwan hadn't returned for a long time, Chen Jiaxu said something to Liu Dongcheng and then jogged over to Mo Shuwan's side. He carefully looked at the spot she was observing and asked in a low voice, "Captain, what are you looking at?"

Mo Shuwan snapped out of her daze and pointed to the sand in front of her. "See that?"

"No." Chen Jiaxu had already looked carefully when he arrived and indeed saw nothing. Even if he looked again now, he probably wouldn't be able to see anything.

Mo Shuwan didn't speak this time. She simply reached out and dug away the sand where she had just pointed, and a tender sprout finally saw the light of day again thanks to her actions.

"Holy crap?!" Chen Jiaxu exclaimed in surprise.

He remembered that Wen Zuo and Yang Zhou were sleeping, so even though he was surprised, he kept his voice very low and quickly covered his mouth, looking at the tender sprout in front of him with disbelief. "How can there be grass here? There is no water source around."

Mo Shuwan had no idea why a sprout had appeared here. She simply reached out and dug away some of the surrounding sand, only to find that the sprout was growing on the sand. As she dug away more sand, the sprout actually left the sand.

Mo Shuwan picked up the sprout, both amused and exasperated. "There's no soil underneath that can support the growth of this sprout."

"Could it be that those monsters brought some grass with them when they passed by, and then dropped one here?"

"It's unlikely. We've been here all night, and there aren't any monster footprints around. Besides, if they had appeared, we would know. If those monsters had passed by before, it's even more impossible. This sprout couldn't have survived for that long."

Chen Jiaxu thought about it and felt that what Mo Shuwan said made a lot of sense. He fell into deep thought again, but no matter how much he thought about it, his eyebrows were all furrowed. He still couldn't figure out how this little sprout could survive in such a desert. You know, the temperature under the sand is extremely low.

Mo Shuwan pinched the tender sprout and looked it over, then buried it back in the sand.

Half an hour later, Chen Jiaxu, who was hunching his shoulders, felt the temperature rising. He was about to tell Mo Shuwan the good news when, before he could even open his mouth, the temperature had already risen to a normal level where they would neither feel cold nor hot.

Mo Shuwan then stood up for the first time. "You stay here and keep an eye on it. If anything changes with this blade of grass, tell me immediately."

Chen Jiaxu nodded quickly.

Mo Shuwan went back and brushed the sand off Wen Zuo's body. She also took some meat for Hope and Stratosphere, who had just woken up. After looking at Wen Zuo, who was still asleep, she went to rescue Yang Zhou from the sand as well before returning to the place where she had found the sprout.

"Captain, I've been keeping an eye on it, but I haven't noticed any changes."

"Um."

It was already past eight in the morning, and Mo Shuwan, who hadn't eaten anything, felt hungry. She grabbed two large bread rolls and two bottles of milk, saying, "I'll eat something first."

"Thank you, Captain."

The two of them watched over the sprout for more than three hours before it finally began to change. Soon, the changes became more and more obvious, and it grew bigger and bigger. In the end, it grew to a height of more than one meter under the watchful eyes of Mo Shuwan and Chen Jiaxu.

"Holy crap!"

Mo Shuwan pulled Chen Jiaxu back, nervously watching the tender sprout. The sprout continued to change and grew another two meters in a very short time.

Mo Shuwan was still a little overwhelmed as she watched the tender bud grow into a sapling. She thought it was over, but then a flower suddenly bloomed on the sapling, and a fruit grew under their watchful eyes.

"...This will work?"

It took less than a minute for the fruit to go from green to ripe. Just as it was about to rot, Mo Shuwan gritted her teeth, rushed over, and picked the fruit. The sapling withered at a speed visible to the naked eye, turning back into a tender bud in the blink of an eye, and then the bud turned into sand and disappeared.

The sapling is gone, but the fruit that Mo Shuwan picked is still there.

"It looks delicious."

"Stay away from me until we figure out what the fruit is for."

Chen Jiaxu was stunned for a moment, but immediately obeyed and moved away from Mo Shuwan.

Liu Dongcheng, who was guarding Wen Zuo and the others, also witnessed the scene just now. When he saw Chen Jiaxu return, he frowned, walked over, and asked in a low voice, "What exactly happened?"

"I don't know either. The captain found a sprout, and I went to check it out. Then suddenly the sprout turned into a sapling. You probably saw what happened after that, right?"

Liu Dongcheng saw it, of course, but it was precisely because he saw it that he found it strange. "Then why did you come back?"

Chen Jiaxu plopped down on the sand, looked at Mo Shuwan not far away, and whispered, "The captain said that I should stay away before we figure out what the fruit is for. The captain is probably worried that the fruit is dangerous."

"You stay here and keep watch." After saying that, Liu Dongcheng quickly walked towards where Mo Shuwan was standing. When he got there, he saw her examining the bright red fruit in her hand.

“Come and take a look. I’ve been looking at this fruit for a long time and I can’t find anything strange about it.”
