Chapter 289 The Taste of the Prey

The chieftain shook his head. "You must have been bewitched by the monsters during your trip. You were completely unaware of it. If you encounter any monsters this time, you must not hesitate to attack them."

"clear!"

The chieftain looked at the resolute faces, nodded, and led the group onward. They moved very fast. The chieftain told them that they were only halfway to the next hunting ground, but a sandstorm was also approaching.

The wind gradually picked up, and the expressions of the more than one hundred people changed, but they did not stop. They continued their journey against the strong wind. Finally, half an hour later, a storm came from behind them. Although it seemed to be quite far away, it was only a matter of time before the storm caught up with them and tore them apart if they stopped.

As they passed a sandpit, Ah Xiang from the group suddenly shouted, "Chief! There's prey here!"

This sentence successfully stopped everyone in the group. Mo Shuwan and the others, who had already run ahead of many tribesmen, also stopped. When they turned around, they saw A Xiang standing on a sandy area where the sand was noticeably sunken.

There are people inside!

For some reason, staring at the sand beneath Ah Xiang's feet, Mo Shuwan felt a sense of unease. She took a few steps forward abruptly, blurting out, "Ah Xiang, you must be mistaken. How could there be prey here?"

"No, Shuwan, have you forgotten? My nose is the most sensitive. I can smell it. There's the scent of prey down there."

At this moment, the clan chief, who had been at the front of the group, walked up to Ah Xiang. He pushed Ah Xiang aside, stomped on the yellow sand, and smiled. "Ah Xiang's feeling was right. There is indeed prey down there. The storm is coming. Hurry up and catch the prey. We must reach the next hunting spot before the storm arrives."

"clear!"

Hearing that there was prey beneath the sand, the tribesmen were filled with excitement and immediately squeezed in to start digging through the yellow sand, while Mo Shuwan and the other four were pushed to the outermost edge.

Stop them! Stop them!

Mo Shuwan was panting heavily, staring at the backs of the heads of the tribesmen in front of her. Her mind was a mess. Before she could sort out these chaotic thoughts, A Xiang and the others had not yet had time to dig through the yellow sand. Suddenly, the yellow sand rushed towards their faces.

Mo Shuwan, her face covered in yellow sand, instinctively closed her eyes and quickly patted the sand off her face. When she opened her eyes again, she saw five people jumping out of the sand pit. She couldn't see their faces clearly, but she heard the screams of her tribesmen.

The chieftain stumbled back several steps, roaring, "Quick! Catch these prey!!!"

The tribesmen reacted at this moment and rushed towards the five people who had just rushed out of the sand pit. After a moment of hesitation, Mo Shuwan and the other five also rushed up. However, these prey were too powerful, and they suffered heavy losses. They were unable to capture the prey even when the storm came.

The chieftain's roar rang out again, "The storm is coming! Abandon the prey! Everyone, run!"

Mo Shuwan and Wen Zuo, who had been squeezed on the periphery and unable to reach any of their prey, turned and ran. The surviving members of their clansmen hurriedly followed behind them, fearing that they would be swept away by the storm if they were a step too late.

After running for about a minute, Mo Shuwan looked back and saw that the five prey were also running in the direction they had fled. She was stunned. "Aren't they afraid we'll catch them?"

Hearing this, Wen Zuo, who was holding her hand, glanced behind him and saw five prey about to be swept away by the storm. At the same time, the clan chief's voice rang out from ahead, "Watch the direction the prey is being swept away! Once the storm stops, bring them back immediately!"

"clear!"

A group of people ran for their lives. They were lucky; the storm suddenly turned a corner halfway through, and the panting crowd quickly stopped.

"Chief, what should we do now? We're not far from the next hunting spot, but those five prey are probably dying. If we go back to capture them now, we shouldn't encounter any fierce resistance."

Upon hearing the clansman's suggestion, the clan chief frowned. "Let me think about it."

While the clan leader was still hesitating, Ah Xiang, who had recovered, cautiously walked to Mo Shuwan and Wen Zuo's side and whispered, "Those five prey were really fierce. I counted, and we lost at least twenty people."

Mo Shuwan paused for a moment, then nodded subconsciously, "Yes."

Ah Xiang sighed, "I wonder if the chieftain will let us go back and capture them. If we can capture them, we'll have completed a little over half of our hunt. But they're really powerful; I'm afraid even a storm won't be able to harm them."

Mo Shuwan smiled but didn't respond to that.

The chieftain, who was hesitating between going back to find the prey scattered by the storm or leading his people to the next hunting spot, looked up at the place where the storm had just turned and finally made up his mind.

"Go back and find those prey. They are very strong. Be careful when you encounter them. Avoid conflict if possible."

One of the clansmen asked hesitantly, "Clan leader, shall we all go?"

The clan chief shook his head. "No, only a portion of the people will go. I'll start calling roll now. Those whose names I call will go, and those whose names I don't call will stay here and wait with me."

The clansmen nodded and waited quietly for the clan leader to call their names. This time, Mo Shuwan and Wen Zuo were not selected, but Yang Zhou, Chen Jiaxu, and Liu Dongcheng were selected. They stepped out of the group and stood in the group that was about to set off to hunt.

At the clan chief's command, Yang Zhou and his group roared and charged toward the direction where the prey might be. Each of the several teams had seven people.

Yang Zhou ran fiercely in the middle of the group. His group was lucky; after running for about three minutes, they spotted the prey that had just hidden in the sand.

"Found it!"

Yang Zhou's face lit up with surprise. He rushed over and, together with his companions, cleared away the sand. However, before he could even see the person in the sand, his head was suddenly blown off his neck.

Bang bang bang—

With several muffled thuds, seven bloody heads rolled to the ground.

They assumed their prey, hidden beneath the yellow sand, stood expressionless behind them. The prey placed the blood-dripping longsword on the corpse in Yangzhou, gently wiped away the blood, and then turned and left.

Mo Shuwan, who was waiting in place with the clan leader, yawned and muttered to herself in a strange tone, "I suddenly feel so sleepy. I don't think I've ever felt this tired before."

Wen Zuo looked down at Mo Shuwan with concern, gently squeezed her hand, pulled her down to squat, and wrote on the sand—Are you sick?

"Probably not, I haven't been sick in a long time."
