Chapter 28 Tide Proverbs (10) The Crow.
When raindrops fall into the pool, they create ripples on the surface. The rhythm of this rainfall should be disordered, but when combined, it creates a natural melody. She guessed that this was probably nature's music.
Logically speaking, the dream world is all fake; whether it's natural or not, it's all fabricated by demons. Yet she still accepted everything here. Time always seemed so short. The sea breeze came from the horizon, blowing over the vines hanging from the rooftop, finally chasing after the setting sun, and the day ended just like that.
She was slowly getting used to everything here, even though she knew this wasn't normal, but for some reason she just didn't want to resist it.
When Feng Feng stayed here, she would always feel inexplicably sad. She felt sad when she looked at the sea, and she felt sad when she looked at the plants in the corner of the wall. But she remembered that the word "sadness" used to be far away from her.
My mother said that she had hardly ever cried since she was a child. Even when Fengmian was born, she was lying in the next room crying loudly, but she just opened her big eyes and smiled at her mother, who looked a little tired.
What a sensible child.
That's what everyone says.
Later, when Feng Feng had a genius girl, the hope of the family, she always maintained a high spirit and held her head high like a little bird flapping its wings on a windowsill.
A child prodigy, after all, is born with it; she doesn't need much effort, she can achieve anything if she wants to. So whenever she shows a downcast expression, or her shoulders hunch in weariness, everyone rushes to her side to check on her. Her brother's eyes droop, and her mother sits far away, silently watching her.
She didn't want to see her loved ones looking sad, and she hoped to do her best to make everyone happy forever.
Of course, happiness is hard to come by, and staying happy forever is even harder, but she is Feng Feng, and there is nothing Feng Feng cannot do.
Her birth signifies solving all the problems for the Feng family and bringing joy to everyone around her.
But lately, a voice has been buzzing around her like a fly.
The voice kept asking her, "Who are you?"
How ridiculous, Feng Feng thought. Of course, she was the Feng family's genius girl, the righteous and unassuming official, Feng Mian's adorable younger sister, and her parents' eternal pride.
What's so difficult about this problem? If it's the ghost that's behind this, it's underestimating itself.
But the voice wouldn't give up, asking when she woke up, when she slept, in her dreams, and even when Azhu was talking to her. Feng Feng was so bothered by the noise that she had no other thoughts to care about finding Liang. The more she tried to concentrate and resist, the more clearly she kept asking herself the same questions.
Until that night, or rather, that morning.
As the ethereal chimes rang out, the voice in my head changed the question for the first time.
It asked Feng Feng, "Why do you exist?"
For the first time, she put aside all her emotions and carefully considered the problem.
Why does it exist?
Then, hesitantly, she gave an answer: to become an unjust official? To alleviate the family's pressure? Or to please her mother? But each answer made her feel inexplicably sad, just like the answer to the question "Who are you?" was never the two words "Feng Feng".
She spent the rest of the time thinking.
The pool looked very deep, but when cleaning, I noticed that it was only a little over a meter from the edge to the bottom. Perhaps it was the color of the water that made it seem like it was bottomless.
Azhu and Fengmian entered the warehouse. Actually, her throat had been a little uncomfortable since she woke up this morning. When she saw the dark interior of the warehouse just now, that suffocating feeling came back to her, so she decided to wait outside the door.
Deeper waters always have a magical power to tempt people to jump in, just like the pool water swaying gently in the air right now, making her dizzy and wanting nothing more than to reach out a finger and stir it to stop tempting her.
So she did just that.
The pool water licked her fingers, soft and delicate. She suddenly felt her breathing become easier, and the feeling of blockage in her throat disappeared, as if the oxygen hidden in the water was flowing into her lungs through contact with her skin.
Smooth breathing gives one a sense of peace.
breathe?
Feng Feng stared at the ripples on the water and muttered to himself, "Do people exist because they breathe, or do they breathe because they exist?"
The gentle water flowed up her fingers, slowly enveloping her arm. Feng Feng no longer resisted and tumbled into the pool with the current. Like plunging into the deep sea, the blue enveloped everything, including her own cold body, and she felt safer than ever before.
"I was meant to be here," Feng Feng couldn't help but think.
The sea is her home, where it is warm as spring, isolating her from all the noise, where there is no difference and no crushing hope. She can relax her limbs and let the water carry her around, like seaweed.
What kind of places do seaweed like?
The soft white sand, the crevices between the rocks, the fish that swim by tickling her, the migrating red crabs telling her how wonderful the California sun is, until her shell softens and her eyes burn.
She was closing her eyes and imagining herself as a red algae carried to the beach by the tide when suddenly a voice shouted in her ear.
"I don't want steamed crab! I want spicy crab!" she said, her tone aggressive and unreasonable.
"No, your throat isn't better yet, so you can't eat spicy food for the next few days." Another voice, gentle yet stubborn, refused without room for argument, since he was the one who made the decisions about the dining table in this house.
Who are they? Their argument went on and on. When Feng Feng opened her eyes, she saw several familiar faces. Wasn't she Hai Zao? Why did she recognize them?
A little boy with long eyelashes and fair skin stood on a stool, barely able to reach the pot on the stove. Next to him stood a little girl with two braids and rosy cheeks. The little girl, hands on her hips, flew into the living room like a bird to complain. The two adults sat on the sofa in the living room, shrugged, and said that they couldn't do anything about it; the older brother was in charge of the family.
She then turned her gaze to the other side of the sofa, where two children were sitting. A little girl with black-rimmed glasses and a blank expression rummaged through her bag and finally took out two packets of medicine and stuffed them into her hands. She said blankly, "Take the medicine and your throat will get better quickly, then you can have the spicy crab right away."
Another pale little boy, with long hair that almost covered his eyes, looked up and met the little girl's gaze before jumping off the sofa.
"Hey! Where are you going!" the little girl shouted.
The boy stopped and stood obediently in place.
"I'll go beat up Feng Mian and make him make you spicy crab."
"You're not allowed to hit my brother!"
As she spoke, she opened her arms and tackled the boy to the ground.
What spicy crab? It looks so delicious! I want to try it too, but am I not seaweed?
Am I seaweed?
Who am I?
Feng Feng suddenly opened her eyes, and the dirty pool water rushed into her mouth and nose in an instant, squeezing her internal organs. The feeling was extremely uncomfortable, but she was also somewhat excited.
What nonsense about seaweed and red crabs! She's always known who she is! Lord Feng Feng has so many ties and attachments in this world; he doesn't want to drift along with the current and be washed ashore, pitifully waiting to be melted by the sun!
The cunning Liang loves to twist concepts, but she always knew that she was herself first and foremost Feng Feng. Because she was so good, she became everyone's hope and pride. She was never anyone's appendage, and her birth was not for any valuable purpose. Becoming an unknown official to take on the responsibility of protecting everyone, and so on, were all her choices as Feng Feng.
That's all.
When she regained consciousness, she found herself not in the deep sea, but in a pool filled with seaweed. She tried to move her arms to float to the surface, but too much water had entered her trachea, and her lungs were in excruciating pain. Without enough oxygen, her limbs gradually went limp, and she couldn't even muster any strength. Feng Feng made up her mind that as long as she could get ashore alive, she would find Liang and beat him so badly that even his own mother wouldn't recognize him.
The prerequisite is that you can survive.
Her vision began to blur, and her consciousness gradually dissipated. Through the haze, she saw a pale face and a pair of light purple eyes.
Naturally, Feng Feng felt he could close his eyes and rest.
When Feng Mian and Xia Zhu rushed out of the warehouse, this was the scene they saw.
A soaking wet stranger carried the unconscious Feng Feng slowly ashore from the water. His hair was too long and hung down in front of his eyes after being soaked by the rain. His pale and unclear face could be vaguely seen through the strands of hair.
Like a hero descending from the sky to save his beloved girl from a storm, his fingers clenched and trembled with fear of losing her. Or rather, they weren't just white, but his right hand, which he extended from his sleeve, was entirely made of bone.
Xia Zhu gasped for breath, suspecting that the reason the hair behind the mess was so pale was because it was also a skull.
Just as she was about to rush over, Feng Mian stopped her. Xia Zhu was puzzled and wanted to get an answer from his face, but Feng Mian just looked at the two people in the rain. His right eyelid was twitching so much that Xia Zhu could see it, and his expression was like he had eaten shit.
"Ying Ya? What are you doing here??"
"Could the fourth person be you?"
For the first time, Xia Zhu saw a twisted and ferocious expression on Feng Mian's face. He felt that Feng Mian was about to tear his clothes off and roar at Ying Ya, "Let go of my sister!"
At the end of the corridor, in Xia Zhu's room.
She confirmed with Feng Mian that she could use her ability in front of this suddenly appearing boy, then grasped Feng Feng's hand, lowered her head, and silently chanted. A few seconds later, she coughed up a string of water, and the others hurriedly wiped her clean. Although she was still not fully awake, her breathing was steady and her complexion was normal, probably because she was too tired and had fallen asleep.
Xia Zhu was grateful that she still possessed this ability.
Throughout the process, the girl was as stubborn as an ox, unwilling to give up the closest spot next to Feng Feng to her older brother or Xia Zhu, who was helping with the treatment. The two of them could only do these things awkwardly, sideways.
The boy named Ying Ya stared silently at Feng Feng on the bed, his back to Xia Zhu, making people really curious about his appearance, especially considering that he had a skeletal arm.
Xia Zhu had no choice but to turn around and meet Feng Mian's eyes, signaling to him with her gaze. She really wanted to know who this person was, and of course, what his relationship with Xiao Feng was.
Feng Mian: "Alright, let me introduce you. Ying Ya is from the Ying family of Shao Hao. Their family's divination power is bird control. Our two families are neighbors, so he and Xiao Feng should be what is called 'green plum bamboo horse' (青梅竹马)." The last four words were said through gritted teeth.
Actually, there was another half he didn't say. Ying Ya was also a cripple, and as for why he had the ability to control birds, Feng Mian had to admit his efforts.
He simply didn't want to openly praise her, and besides, such an effort might not seem particularly admirable to Ying Ya.
"The Bird of the Sea?" Xia Zhu roughly guessed who had been hiding in the shadows watching him.
Just as she was about to ask something, Feng Feng on the bed stirred, gently opened one eye, and then held up a finger towards Ying Ya. The boy quickly offered his right hand, which was now just a skeleton.
A small daisy with a grass stem sprouted from Feng Feng's fingertip, then twisted and wrapped around Ying Ya's finger bone, turning into a small flower ring that was worn on that withered finger.
"Little crow, it's been a long time!"
