Chapter 87 The Spear of Courage Still Presses Forward (Part 10) Our Mission...
Ying Ya sat by the small window, with Daphne standing behind him, muttering to herself and gesturing with a pair of silver scissors over his head.
"Snap—"
"Snap—"
Strands of hair slid down his long robe and fell onto the sun-drenched floor.
Daphne cradled his head, looking at it from left to right, nodding in satisfaction.
"You look better like this, with your eyes and eyebrows showing! Good lad! You look much more energetic!"
She lifted Ying Ya's robe, shook it off, and patted his shoulder.
"Alright, we've eaten, and we've gotten our hair cut. It's time to hit the road."
Without the bangs obscuring his face, the sunlight seemed much more dazzling. Ying Ya couldn't adjust for a moment. He lowered his eyelashes and didn't look directly at Daphne, only letting out a soft "hmm" from his throat.
In order to finish their mission and find Liang as soon as possible, Xia Zhu and her companions did not plan to stay in Daphne's warm home for another night and hurried on their way while it was still light.
Daphne filled a cloth bag with dry bread and cheese for them as provisions for the journey, and escorted the six of them to the village entrance.
She stood in the sunset, in the gentle breeze, with her hands raised high, her eyes sparkling, shouting something.
Feng Feng wrapped one arm around Ying Ya's neck, keeping his head down and not saying a word. He asked Ying Ya if he wasn't going to turn around and see what Daphne was saying.
His voice was muffled as he stubbornly shook his head.
"No need, I heard everything."
It's nothing more than wishing you a safe journey, a speedy return, and reminding you to eat well and sleep well.
He already knew these things; she didn't need to remind him.
Feng Feng nodded and said that made sense. They came here to leave, but Daphne was different. She would only stay in the dream forever. The more she talked, the harder it would be for her to move forward.
Ying Ya reached out and brushed his hair aside. He was still not used to it; the light of the setting sun stung his eyes.
The surrounding terrain began to become wild and the population gradually dwindled. After the sun had completely set, they finally entered a forest.
The daytime heat suddenly turned into a sweltering heat as they entered the woods. The wind rustled the grass with a mournful sound, and Xia Zhu unconsciously shrank his neck. Fortunately, his long robe kept him warm, and the group of people walking together made for a lively atmosphere.
Feng Feng grabbed a handful of seeds from his person, and then each of them held up a bright Jinjin lamp in their palm.
Holding a lantern in one hand and a parchment scroll in the other, Ji Yinxiu said, "Once we leave this forest, we should reach the salt lake swamp. If nothing unexpected happens, we won't need to camp here tonight..."
When someone says something like that, they usually respond to the call to action immediately.
Screams came from the depths of the forest, accompanied by a faint tremor of the earth, shaking of the treetops, and startling birds into flight, as if some enormous creature was approaching.
The group immediately huddled together and went on alert.
"Aa ...
"Help!!"
A burly man emerged from the bushes ahead, a sword at his waist, gleaming silver armor protecting him. Even in his frantic escape, his posture remained remarkably upright. He had thick eyebrows and large eyes, with striking features, but from any angle, he looked utterly bizarre, completely out of place with Xia Zhu and the others.
Upon seeing a group of strangely shaped people appear ahead, the man seemed to see a savior and shouted as he ran towards them.
"Heroes! Help!"
The closer he got, the more violently the earth shook. The man took a step and dodged behind Ying Huo, who was closest to him, and unceremoniously grabbed his waist, using him as a human shield.
"Get out of my way! Who are you?" Ying's face paled as she stared disdainfully at the thick arm around her waist, frantically elbowing the person behind her.
"We can talk about introductions later. Please, brave soul, save my life first!"
The man pointed into the bushes ahead.
Amidst the earth-shaking tremors, a gigantic creature appeared, crashing down countless tree trunks in its path, its two elephant-like ears and long, blood-red tongue swinging as it charged forward.
The newcomer was clearly hostile; its sharp eyes and deafening screams alone were enough to indicate its danger.
Ji Wuchou stepped in front of the crowd first, palms down, fingers slightly spread, creating a pair of sharp crescent-shaped ice blades. She tightened her knuckles, and the ice blades flashed with a chilling light that cut to the bone.
Just as she was about to raise her hand to throw her weapon at the giant object, a shout came from behind her.
"Meow!"
The stranger who had rushed out earlier shoved Ying Huo aside, flashed in front of Ji Wuchou, and spread his arms to block her movements.
"Hey! Hey! Show mercy, brave warrior! Meow Meow isn't a monster, it's my mount! And that thing is still behind us!"
After listening to his rambling, Ji Wuchou put away the ice blade in her hand, raised her eyelids, and glanced at him.
With just one glance, the man suddenly seemed to freeze, his jaw relaxed, his mouth slightly open, his eyebrows raised, and his eyes became unfocused.
"You're so beautiful, brave warrior."
Ji Wuchou was taken aback, but the next second she frowned and disappeared from the man's sight in a flash.
"Huh?" He was left standing there, dumbfounded, watching a huge, hairy, brown rear end swing wildly and crash straight into him because it couldn't stop.
"Meow...meow!"
The man tried to stop the mount, but its massive body still slammed him to the ground.
"Help...help me..." An arm desperately stretched out from under the round mound and waved twice at Xia Zhu, who had been standing by watching the show.
Xia Zhu looked left at Feng Feng and right at Ying Huo, considering whether to offer help, but his keen ears caught another eerie hissing sound rapidly approaching from the direction the man and beast had come from.
She held the small sword horizontally in front of her, staring intently at the dark bushes.
"They've arrived," Ji Yinxiu said coldly.
Then a slender figure glided out from mid-air, accompanied by a terrifying hissing sound.
Xia Zhu frowned as a foul, fishy stench quickly spread through the air.
The thing fell heavily to the ground, and under everyone's gaze, it slowly raised its head. From its greasy, knotted hair, which resembled plastic sheeting, emerged a ghostly, sinister eye. Its upper body was naked, but its lower body had a bloated, rotting snake tail.
It is a beastman with a human head and a snake's body.
However, unlike the snake-man she had seen in the Silent Land, this one had an overall limp and rotten appearance. Its human upper body seemed incredibly heavy and could not be supported by its snake tail. It could only lie prostrate on the ground, with only its head barely raised.
It parted its lips, revealing a scarlet tongue that trembled rapidly as it greedily inhaled the scent of living beings in the air. Using its hands and hind limbs, it slowly crawled towards the group.
Xia Zhu discovered that the snake-man's tail was covered in pustules. Just by dragging it a short distance, it left a trail of pus behind it. If the ground was uneven with some stones, the rotting strips of flesh would be scraped off.
Like an NPC in every game, the snake-man approached while reciting his lines.
Its voice was hoarse and hollow, as if it hadn't spoken in a long time.
"Those heroes... imprisoned me in a tiny space deep within a cave... curled up in a ball day and night, unable to turn over... I developed bedsores all over my body, not a single patch of healthy flesh remained..."
It gently swayed its head, its expression one of blissful infatuation.
"Ha... the smell of fresh human flesh... Let your strong, powerful bodies be a sacrifice to the flesh and blood I've lost..."
After saying that, it braced itself on its hands and pounced on Xia Zhu, who was in the middle.
Contrary to its apparent weakness, the snake-man was incredibly fast, arriving before Xia Zhu in the blink of an eye.
Seeing that Xia Zhu had no reaction and was standing there blankly without moving, Feng Feng became anxious and swung his vines to wrap around the snake-man's tail, but Xia Zhu nimbly broke free.
"Ah Zhu!"
Xia Zhu finally made a move. She blinked, quickly sheathed her small sword at her waist, assumed a horse stance, rotated her hips, and kicked the snake-man in the face, sending it flying.
She pulled her leg back, took small steps to the nearby bushes, and frantically rubbed the soles of her shoes against them.
"How disgusting," Xia Zhu said calmly, staring at her toes.
Don't get the sword dirty.
Seeing this, Feng Feng scratched his head. Ah Zhu can be quite scary sometimes.
Now Ji Yinxiu had no choice but to look down at his Xuanyuan Sword and then at the snake-man lying motionless on the ground.
It does seem really disgusting.
He decisively sheathed his sword.
Fortunately, this monster wasn't as powerful as it looked; it had invested all its talent points in speed. And all of this couldn't escape the eagle-like eyes of Ying Ya, who now had wings.
Ultimately, it's about species restraint.
The group put away their weapons and used whatever they could find. Working together seamlessly, they quickly dispatched the monster amidst the unidentified man's exclamations of admiration.
Feng Feng smugly chased after Ying Ya and asked him.
"Little crow, what kind of bird are you anyway?"
The latter had bright red ears, avoided eye contact, and remained silent.
After throwing the snake-man's corpse aside, the group quickly walked several hundred meters forward. Only after the stench had dissipated considerably did they prepare to stop and rest.
"So, how long are you going to follow us? And who exactly are you?"
Feng Feng crossed his arms and questioned the bizarre-looking man and dog in front of him.
That's right, this mount named Meow Meow looks like a giant dog from every angle. Panting with its tongue lolling out, it licked its owner from head to tail with an incredibly wicked yet somewhat cute face, causing the man's wet hair to stick tightly to his square head, looking like someone's big toe that had just been soaked in water.
"That's right, that's right, I haven't introduced myself yet." The man pulled out his shirt and wiped his head casually with a fawning expression. He pointed to the mount beside him and said, "This is the magical beast Meow Meow, my most loyal partner and mount."
The cat understood that its owner was introducing it, and proudly raised its big head, letting out two strange "wer wer" sounds towards the sky.
The man then patted the sword at his waist, and a golden light suddenly enveloped him from who-knows-where. Xia Zhu frowned as she watched the man slowly reveal a somewhat disgusting and eerie smile.
"To my shame, my name is very ordinary; I'm afraid people will laugh at me if I say it..."
"Hey! Be more confident, little firecracker. Even if your name is Dog Egg, no one here will laugh at you." Feng Feng wanted to pat him on the shoulder in a very righteous way, but after glancing at the still sticky armor, he withdrew his hand with a grin.
The man's eyes were glistening with tears; he seemed deeply moved, feeling that everyone around him was an incredibly kind and wonderful person.
"Since that's the case... my name is Viserion Serasiris Frostmourne. As you can see, I'm just an ordinary, unassuming hero on the road to rescuing the princess. It's fate that we meet. If you don't mind, you can call me Sirius~"
Everyone: "..."
"Hiss—" Feng Feng gasped, feeling a sudden burning sensation in her fist. She turned to look at everyone, her expression twisted with suppressed anger, and asked, "Can I beat him up?"
Vitherion Serasiris Frostmourne? This guy is practically a demon! Could it be any more obvious?!
