Chapter 7 Fierce Charge

"Chanyu, get some rest. We're really looking forward to drinking your mare's milk wine!"

"Yes, Chanyu, please treat us to mare's milk..."

At this very moment, however, the Chanyu Xubuguduhou was enjoying himself in his royal tent, surrounded by women on his left and right.

"Ha! You little devils are the ones who make me feel good. But I'm afraid I'll start thinking about other things when I drink mare's milk wine from now on."

"Huh!"

Orioles and swallows sing, phoenixes and luan birds sing in harmony.

No wonder this guy is short-lived. Even when on the march, he plays around so much. Even if he is strong and healthy, he can't withstand such excessive indulgence.

"Report!"

"Report! Chanyu, something terrible has happened!"

The shout from the messenger outside the door instantly dampened the enthusiasm that Xubuguduhou Chanyu had managed to muster.

"Damn it, don't they know what I'm doing? They're like a jinx, bringing bad luck!"

His shout caused the messenger outside the door to stop in his tracks.

"Chanyu! Please forgive my rudeness, but the Han army launched a night attack on our camp. The situation is urgent. Please, Chanyu, take charge and keep our warriors' morale high!"

Upon hearing this, the Chanyu Xubuguduhou was taken aback. How dare a Han Chinese launch a nighttime attack?

No, under normal circumstances, why would a regular raid on a camp cause one's personal guards to panic like this?

"Hmph, a bunch of useless trash, can't even handle such a small matter! Tell me, which unit of our army did those Han Chinese attack?"

The guard was stunned for a moment, then suddenly slapped his forehead.

No wonder his Chanyu was so impatient; he forgot to mention the important part.

"Chanyu! Those Han people, somehow they've circled around to the rear of our army's camp, burned all the grain and fodder, and are now heading towards the armory!"

The brothers are in complete chaos, Chanyu, they all need you to stabilize the situation!

Xubuguduhou Chanyu's pupils contracted slightly, clearly unable to believe what his personal guards were saying.

Before the maids on either side could help him put on his armor, he dragged his long linen robe out of the tent, grabbed his guard by the collar, and glared angrily.

"What?! The two most important places have been burned down by the Han people?"

It wasn't until he stepped out of the main tent that the Chanyu, Xubuguduhou, heard the news.

The pervasive smell of gunpowder in the air had begun to overpower the stench emanating from beneath the walls of Yanmen Pass.

The guards, disregarding everything else, cried out, "Chanyu! No one could have imagined that the Han people would be so treacherous! Right now, all the tribal leaders are busy reinforcing discipline, but not a single one has stepped forward to fight. Chanyu, please go and take charge of the situation as soon as possible!"

"Useless, useless! They're all fucking useless!!"

Bang!

Xubuguduhou Chanyu flung his personal guard away, sending him crashing into a wooden post.

"Issue my military order: three thousand Xiongnu personal guards, follow me to intercept the despicable Han people! Commanders of all units, hold your respective units steady and prevent any signs of panic or disorder!"

"Yes, Chanyu!"

Although the Chanyu Xubuguduhou was furious, he knew the situation was tense and decided not to argue with the guard who only spoke halfway through his sentence.

The Xiongnu personal guard was an elite force specifically established to protect the Xiongnu Chanyu (ruler).

The team consists of the elite of the elite, carefully selected from warriors of various units.

They possessed the finest weapons and armor among the Xiongnu. Fortunately, the technology of heavy cavalry from the Han Dynasty had not yet been introduced to the Xiongnu; otherwise, such an army would have been a scourge to all Han people.

"Brothers, leave no Xiongnu who stand in our way alive!"

"Wind! Wind! Wind!!"

Just as Xubuguduhou Chanyu began his operation, Zhao Hao had already charged into the military camp according to plan, setting a large fire that seemed to ignite the dark night.

"Help! Help me!"

"Madmen, these Han Chinese are all madmen!"

Under Zhao Hao's leadership, the three thousand light cavalrymen were like gods of war.

At first, some fearless Xiongnu people tried to stop this light cavalry force.

But seeing the unparalleled strength of these young Han generals and the ferocious Han cavalry behind them, they were already filled with fear.

Seeing these people not only fighting with weapons, but also tearing and biting each other with their teeth like primitive savages, I couldn't tell who the barbarians were for a moment, and I was terrified!

"Hahaha, who else dares to come up now!"

Zhao Hao had already destroyed five of his iron spears, and now he only had one ordinary long lance left, which was still usable.

The situation was similar for the other cavalrymen, who generally had three spears each, with only one remaining spear stained with blood.

"General, something terrible has happened!"

Before long, Li Tingzhi, covered in blood and looking anxious, came to Zhao Hao's side.

"General, Hu Sanniang's troops are being held back by an elite Xiongnu cavalry force on their left rear. The situation is critical! We are..."

"What's there to think about? Follow me, and always remember that."

Never abandon your own people! Brothers, our brothers are in grave danger, come with me and rescue them!

"I am willing to fight to the death with the general!"

"Alright! Follow me!"

Li Tingzhi felt ashamed. He had hesitated to advise Zhao Hao to leave the dangerous area as soon as possible, instead of being able to give the order to send troops to rescue him as Zhao Hao had.

Although this doesn't seem like the actions of a wise ruler, as a soldier, it's good to have a leader who doesn't give up on you.

Who wouldn't be sincerely convinced by this and willing to die for it?

"Those who block my way, die!"

The clanging of weapons against armor was deafening. Zhao Hao, leading less than two thousand light cavalrymen and guided by Li Tingzhi, charged toward the enemy forces where Hu Sanniang was besieged.

"Get out of my way!"

Bang!

With this blow, Zhao Hao's lance was also successfully destroyed.
