Chapter 559 Hua Xiong Encounters an Enemy

Hedong, at the foot of Taiyue Mountain, in the Fen River Valley.

A large army is hurrying on its way.

The leading general was none other than Hua Xiong, a fierce general under Dong Zhuo!

His face was stern, and his brows were furrowed.

The five thousand infantry and cavalry behind them remained silent.

Since Dong Zhuo entered the capital and Liu Wei of Hetao raised an army, Hua Xiong thought he could fight a battle with the people of Hetao to avenge his previous defeat.

In late winter of last year, he was ambitious and led 5,000 soldiers from Taiyuan County across the Yellow River to Xihe County, preparing to seize Guluo City.

But on the way, they encountered Zhang Liao!

The two fought one-on-one, and Hua Xiong underestimated Zhang Liao's youth, resulting in his defeat!

This made Hua Xiong unable to hold his head high in the Bingzhou army.

Li Jue, Guo Si, and others, in particular, ridiculed him relentlessly.

They didn't care whether Zhang Liao was powerful or not; they only knew that Hua Xiong had lost to a seventeen-year-old.

They were not ashamed of their defeat in a group fight against Lü Bu, but rather proud of it!

Hua Xiong also wanted to fight Lü Bu to prove his ability.

Before that, however, he wanted to kill a few generals in the Hetao region to vent his emotions accumulated over the past six months.

However, a transfer order forced him to lead his troops to withdraw from Xihe and go to Taiyuan County to support Xu Rong. Just after crossing the Yellow River and preparing to cross the Taiyue Mountains, he received another military order from Niu Fu, ordering him to urgently lead his troops to Hedong and, together with the governor of Hedong, Dong Yue, to cross the Yellow River and enter Luoyang!

After traveling back and forth and taking many detours, Hua Xiong had lost all his temper.

"Where are we ahead? How much longer until Anyi?"

It's already June, the temperature is rising, and the weather is getting a bit hot.

Hua Xiong, riding on his horse, had sweat all over his forehead. Looking at the sun in the sky, he asked the military commander beside him in a bad mood.

"General Hua! If we continue along the river valley for another thirty li or so, we will see Wenxi County! After Wenxi, we will reach Anyi!"

The military commander cautiously replied from the side.

"Damn it, it's still so far! How come we're only just reached Wenxi?! This is killing us!"

Hua Xiong, his beard bristling and eyes wide with frustration, declared, "We must reach Wenxi before sunset and rest in the city!"

"Tonight we'll go into town to find eight or ten women to serve us; the journey has been too arduous!"

"General, be careful what you say! If this gets back to General Niu, it will be troublesome!" the military commander hurriedly advised.

"What's there to be afraid of? If you can't find an enemy to stab, can't you stab a woman?"

Hua Xiong waved casually, completely unconcerned.

The army continued its journey along the valley amidst Hua Xiong's complaints.

At this moment, the river valley was swollen, and the roads along the river were wet because of the recent rain. Many soldiers slipped and fell, complaining bitterly.

The road winds and twists, the army stretches out, and after passing a valley ahead, we will enter the plains, and Wenxi will be within easy reach.

Hua Xiong seemed to see a beautiful, gentle woman in Wenxi County beckoning to him.

"Everyone, cheer up! When we get to Wenxi, I'll make sure you're treated to the best food and drink!"

Hua Xiong shouted loudly.

The soldiers responded with a resounding roar.

They were exhausted after traveling from Guluo City to the Pi family in Xihe County and then through the Taiyue Valley.

Now, after marching day and night through the Taiyue Mountains to reach Wenxi, they were exhausted and mentally drained.

Upon hearing that they would be resting and eating meat in Wenxi, everyone was overjoyed.

Sudden!

A cannon shot boomed, echoing through the valley!

Just as Hua Xiong was completely bewildered, a dense barrage of arrows shot down from the hillside on the left, mercilessly striking the heads of Hua Xiong's soldiers. They cried out in despair and hurriedly sought cover.

In the valley of the Fen River, hundreds and thousands of small boats sail out from the bends, densely covering the river surface.

Each small boat carries five to ten people and is equipped with a machine that is surprisingly a crossbow capable of long-range shooting.

With arrows from the ship and arrows from the hillside, Hua Xiong was completely unable to retaliate under such dense and powerful firepower.

They could only scatter in all directions, some hiding in the woods, some in the bushes, and some behind boulders.

Hua Xiong had two thousand mounted soldiers under his command, who immediately became the most conspicuous live targets.

If it weren't for his extraordinary bravery in desperately swinging his saber to knock down the arrows, he too would have become a hedgehog.

Just as Hua Xiong's five thousand men were caught off guard by arrows from the mountain and the river, suffering heavy losses,

Two thousand cavalrymen slowly approached from directly opposite them.

One thousand men wielded hook-and-sickle spears and wore heavy armor; another thousand men wielded long spears and wore light armor!

The leaders were a young soldier wielding two hammers and a young man wielding two guns.

Those who wield hammers especially so, their hammers are like two giant pumpkins; if you get stuck to one, you'll either die or be skinned alive.

A large flag flutters in the wind, bearing the character "岳" (Yue).

Isn't Hedong guarded by Dong Yue, who was just promoted to Lieutenant General by our lord, and more than 10,000 men?

With so many soldiers, who else could they be but Dong Yue's men?

Fan Chou and Zhang Ji's troops are still in Taiyuan County!

Why would Dong Yue's men attack Hua Xiong, especially since the army's banners bore the large characters "Dong" and "Hua" on them?

Just as Hua Xiong was confused, one of the two cavalry units, heavily armored and led by the young general with double hammers, began to charge.

Several volleys of arrows had already been fired from the hillside and the river, and Hua Xiong's five thousand soldiers had lost a thousand men.

Now the cavalry is charging again; isn't this a recipe for annihilating Hua Xiong's entire force?

They are definitely not Dong Yue's troops, but rather from other forces.

The specific faction involved is becoming increasingly clear.

"General, whose troops are these? They have so many naval forces. Judging from these ships, there are no fewer than four or five hundred. It would probably take gathering all the ships from both the east and west banks of the river to reach this scale!"
