Li Su looked at the three thousand men under his command, who had initially been strong laborers digging soil in Daihai Lake. Apart from being physically strong, they seemed to have no other strengths.
Who would have thought that with the strategist's equipment and a little training, they would become a battle-hardened army.
The chilling aura emanating from them was enough to send shivers down one's spine.
Li Su admired this monk strategist immensely.
"Lieutenant Li, where are we now?"
Seeing that the view ahead suddenly opened up and hearing the faint sound of waves, Yao Guangxiao asked.
"Reporting to the strategist, we have been marching at full speed through the Qingshui River Valley for half a day without stopping, and have already arrived outside Tongguo City."
"Tongguo City is located on the side where the Qingshui River flows into the Yellow River. It is the junction of Dingxiang, Yunzhong and Jiuyuan counties, and is known as the place where the rooster crows in three counties!"
"Cross the Yellow River from here and travel more than sixty li to the west, and you will reach the royal court of the Xiongnu, Meiji."
Li Su grew up in Jiuyuan and had a deep understanding of the geography of the northern frontier.
Yao Guangxiao brought him along, essentially giving him a living map.
What makes someone think they can be a strategist, devising plans and winning battles from afar?
This can be seen from the way they select and appoint people.
Yao Guangxiao pondered for a moment: "Then this city is the ferry crossing for crossing the river?"
“That’s right. If you want to cross the river, besides here, Jiling, which is seventy miles to the north, or Hequ, which is south of Pianguan, are both the best places to cross the river.”
Li Su answered carefully.
"So, this is the only way for the Left Grand Commandant's troops to return to Meiji?"
"Yes, strategist!"
Li Su said, "Hequ is south of Pianguan, so they cannot cross the river to attack Pianguan."
"It's even less likely they'd go to Jiling, unless they've lost their minds and insist on traveling that far!"
Yao Guangxiao stroked his bald head, noticing the dry thatch stretching along both sides of the road all the way to the city walls. His eyes flashed coldly: "Lieutenant Li, you will lead a thousand men in a night raid on Tongguo. Take the city first! Then do this and that..."
"The other two thousand people, and so on..."
"This humble monk will set up a Buddhist ritual here to help them pass on to the Western Paradise."
Li Su's eyes gleamed: "The strategist's plan is truly brilliant! I'll go and make arrangements right now!"
