Chapter 147 Sleep
The fifth hour of Shi Yin's sleep was 11:30 pm. Most of the lights in Beishan Villa were off. Han Zhan placed his order, closed his tablet, and went into the bedroom.
She was sleeping soundly.
Very quiet.
There is a slight curve at the corners of the lips.
It must have been a dream, and a beautiful one at that.
She had worked really hard these days as she brought down her family step by step. Others saw how high she stood and how far she flew, but Han Zhan only saw her uncovering her past scars again and again, enduring the pain and moving forward.
Now it is a foregone conclusion that Shi Tianhong will be imprisoned.
She won.
Han Zhan was happy for her, but also heartbroken. He bent down, reached out and touched her porcelain-white cheek, then leaned down to kiss her forehead. He tucked the quilt into her and quietly watched her for a long moment before turning off the light and leaving.
Close the door.
Walking in the deserted corridor, Han Zhan finally answered the call from Lu Cheng. The person on the other end spoke first: "Why did you take so long to answer? Are you watching Shi Yin sleep again? Didn't you move into the master bedroom to live with Shi Yin? Why don't you sleep with her in your arms?"
"I was afraid of waking her."
"Tsk, are you still afraid?"
"I care about everything about my wife." Han Zhan joked with him, "It's hard to explain it to a single person like you. You won't understand."
Lu Cheng: "..."
In the moment the other person was silent, Han Zhan thought back to the night before in the meditation room at Nanshan Temple. He had shared her bed with her, kissed her passionately, and woke her up in a fit of rage. Today, she had finally gotten a good night's sleep, and Han Zhan couldn't bear to disturb her.
"What do you want from me?" Han Zhan asked.
"Can you lend me Dr. Fang, the private doctor who's been with you for many years, for a week?"
"The Lu family is short of doctors?"
"Meng Xi is going on a business trip abroad tomorrow. I feel more at ease if your people accompany her."
"Doctor Fang went home to worship his ancestors and took a two-week leave. He's not in the capital." Han Zhan heard something and jokingly said, "My wife is Meng Xi's boss. She's on a business trip, so it's my wife who should take care of her. Why are you so proactive?"
Lu Cheng hesitated for a long time.
He didn't explain it clearly.
Han Zhan laughed at him, "When you have time, ask Dr. Fang to go with her on a business trip abroad. You might as well eat more walnuts to nourish your brain. Look at you, your brain is not fully developed, you're missing a nerve. What's the point of reading so many romance novels? You can't integrate the knowledge, nor can you draw inferences from one instance. You're so stupid."
Lu Cheng: "..."
After hanging up the phone, Han Zhan went to the study.
There were some work matters that required his remote guidance, and by the time he finished, it was already past midnight. Perhaps because he had shared a bed with Shi Yin all night, Han Zhan lay alone on the large bed in his study, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.
He stood up.
I went to the master bedroom anyway.
Sitting on the chaise longue sofa with a time-honored atmosphere, he felt much more at ease. He looked at the bedroom door, then picked up the tablet at hand and continued to select daily necessities.
I want a pair of cups.
A pair of shoes.
Even the bathrobes worn next to the body have to be couple's styles.
…
The fifteenth hour that Shi Yin fell asleep was nine o'clock in the morning of the next day.
Han Zhan didn't sleep all night.
I was busy selecting items to enrich their home.
He was full of energy and didn't feel tired. When the housekeeper knocked on the door early in the morning, he went downstairs to have breakfast in high spirits. He then went to the flower stand on the backyard corridor and watered Shi Yin's small succulent potted plants.
The daisies in the flowerbed are in full bloom.
The roses that were planted a few days ago have also sprouted.
The Albizia Julibrissin trees are also growing well.
Han Zhan circled the tree a few times, patting its roots, as if to remind it to be sensible and bless him and Shi Yin with happiness for many years to come. Figuring that Shi Yin would be awake by now, Han Er returned to the house.
Look around.
I didn't see her in the living room.
He called out to the servant coming down from upstairs and asked, "Is Yinyin washing up?"
"My wife is still asleep."
"Not getting up?"
"Well, the wife was sleeping soundly. I went into the room to clean and accidentally made some noise, but I didn't wake her up."
Han Zhan frowned slightly.
Something doesn't feel right.
He rushed upstairs, entered the master bedroom, and went straight to Shi Yin's bedroom. When he opened the door, he saw her sweet sleeping face, lying flat on her back, the same sleeping position as last night, as if it had not changed at all.
For some reason, I felt a surge of panic in my heart.
Han Zhan stared at her for a few seconds, his outstretched hand trembling unconsciously. He touched her shoulder through her pajamas, tightened his grip a little bit, squeezed it gently a few times, and called out tentatively, "Wife? It's time to get up, wife. The sun is high in the sky, and the sunlight is falling into the room and drying your butt."
No response.
No reaction at all.
The housekeeper who was passing by the master bedroom was led in by Han Zhan's voice. He walked quickly to the bedroom door and saw Han Er hugging the sleeping Shi Yin tightly, touching her face with his hand and calling her "wife" over and over again. His tone changed from gentleness and calmness at the beginning to panic and fear, and his voice was trembling at the end.
…
An hour later.
Hospital.
A simple checkup revealed Shi Yin was not ill, other than a slight anemia and a low energy level. Still in her pajamas, she lay quietly on the hospital bed, her heart rate monitor showing normal fluctuations.
She is in good health.
But he didn't wake up yet.
Han Zhan asked someone to investigate what happened in the procuratorate yesterday, and the answer they got was that the process was standardized. Shi Qinghe, as the informant, went to press his fingerprints and record his confession, and Shi Tianhong, as the criminal, was formally arrested.
There was no physical altercation or heated verbal exchange. Even if there was verbal abuse, it was Shi Tianhong scolding Shi Qinghe, and Shi Yin spoke only a few words.
The twentieth hour of Shi Yin's sleep was at 2:30 in the afternoon of that day.
The attending physician suggested taking her for a brain CT scan later. Han Zhan nodded in agreement and left the outpatient office accompanied by the housekeeper and returned to the inpatient building.
He entered the ward.
The room was quiet.
There was no sound at all.
Shi Yin was still sleeping there so obediently, with no intention of waking up. Han Zhan approached and stared at her fair little face for a long time, so long that his vision was a little blurry. He bent down, got close to her face, and coaxed her in a gentle voice: "Wife, what's wrong? Are you reluctant to wake up after a long sleep? Did you get hooked by candy in your dream? How big is the candy? I'll buy you double. Wife, Ah Xiu keeps holding the fairy tale book you gave him in his mouth every day. I'm almost annoyed by it. Can you go home and tell him a couple of stories?"
